Oxford Handbook of the Dead Sea Scrolls, eds. Lim and Collins

This is a very important work, with many scholarly articles representing a number of viewpoints. Importantly, it moves away somewhat from some of the older ideas of an Essene monastery at Qumran. I would prefer to have this resource in Logos rather than print.

Just finished 'the Coventanters of Damascus'. The author (Moore) probably would have really enjoyed this book too!

I'm very glad you mentioned that old book which I've been reading during the afternoon. I'm quite pleasantly surprised to see how some modern questions with respect to Qumran were anticipated so long ago, and before the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

This has definitely exposed me to something I hadn't realized - i.e., the increasing importance of Enochian literature for Qumranic and Jewish and Christian origins studies.

The scholars represented in this book are apparently the leading ones in this field. I'd been reading this recently-acquired book:

I'm reading the Enoch book too, and trying to form my opinions about the Enoch seminar - though it does bother me that they are trying, in some cases, to develop very hypothetical models of evolving communities based upon subjective readings of the text - much like Raymond Brown did with the Gospel of John. Still, there is a lot of food for thought too.

There's another of Barker's books on logos. I recently took a load of her books home from the library - I want to try to get a good idea of where she's coming from. She has a lot of good information it seems, even if I can't always agree with her conclusions.

... Too many books to read!
