I'm thinking about getting an iPAD or iTouch in the near future and I was wondering what sort of filtering everyone has tried and what they are sticking with (if I can be so bold as to end with a preposition)?
Blessings,
Charles
what do you mean by "filtering"?
Sorry for the confusion - internet filtering (e.g. porn).
I have heard of someone using a filter on an iPhone, but am unaware of what app or process they used. To be fully honest, I LOVE my iPad, but do not use the web browser all that often.
If you find something out, let us know!
It is amazing to me this concern about porn.
Don't get me wrong - on principle I think it is a modern day evil.
However I spend a lot of time on the internet and it never seems to rear its ugly head. I reckon the best filter is ourselves - don't go looking for it!
I have lived in some troubled cities - any night of the week I could have taken you to a place where you would be sure to get yourself into a fight - I don't fight very well so I never went to those places. If by mischance I found myself in one I turned on my heels and left.
Internet porn my be ubiquitous but generally it doesn't come looking for you.
Email is of course a different subject you really do need filters for that.
As others have suggested, OpenDNS is a great option. However, it can only filter the network (home, church or school) and not 3G or another WiFi network (like at a neighbour's or a coffee shop). In addition to OpenDNS, you may want to consider installing a safe browser app (like Mobicip) on the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. We have been using it at our home for a while and are generally happy with it. Check out these tutorials for more info:
