Update Library needs to be a more simple process
It seems that whenever I open my library, Logos Android wants to update my library. Given I have quite a large collection this seems to take forever even with a fast internet connection. Given I do not always have the advantage of my home wireless high speed connection and given the high cost in many locations of such a large download, could we perhaps try for a simpler method of library updates ? Two suggestions:
- An option NOT to update the library, better yet ask permission to connect and update the library (I may want to just read a title I have already downloaded)
- Just update additions to the library rather than downloading the list of every title every update and do any necessary integration with the existing libary index locally on the Android system [usually I use the search option to find a title rather than scrolling down alphabetically, so it should not matter if the index if always fully alphabetical in sequence, even if a search for a title takes a little longer] ( a periodic update of the entire libary index could be an occasional user initiated option?)
Anyone else with a large library having such a challenge ?

The Library cache averages out at 9 KB per resource (cover image 2.5 KB + resource data 6.5 KB). 4000 resources = 35 MB but the Library update only involves changed resources. About 1/4 of my cover images were affected (not resource data), so the update would only be 2.5 MB if you have 4000 resources.

Yes, same problem. It takes about 2 minutes for my library to reload. I REALLY wish I could set a default to just see resources that are already downloaded. If I want to see other resources, then I can wait the 2 minutes to refresh. But most of the time I just want to see resources I know i have aleady downloaded.

Another sugestion would be to add an option to open the app in offline mode. It could be user selected from the settings menu. This can also help people on a limited data plan to better manage their data.

From my earlier comment it appears that Logos is only updating what has changed BUT it does take a long time even for 1000 resources. Were you assuming that the long time equated to updating every resource in your Library? For instance, that was the first time I used Library in quite a while. Three days later the Update was much shorter.

That would be a good suggestion, particularly when Library features become more like the desktop version.
I prefer to use History for opening books I have already used which means I don't use Library all that much!

Yes, I was assuming that it was either downloading an index of every resource or comparing its existing index item by item with an index at Logos to determine what needed to be changed: it took more than long enough to do that . Either way if it has to determine from "scratch" each time what is different (ie: starting from zero) then it is going to take a long time in which it is difficult to use the application.
Presumably an easier and faster way would be to store a date in the index and determine changes since that date.
Not particularly obvious to me what it is actually doing, but with several thousand resources in my library, it is a case of go for a coffee while you wait for a library update rather than use the application while having a coffee..... [C]

I agree with this too. I have downloaded a few dozen books that I would like to read as I have some time but can't see this list when "online" without going all the way through my library. I could search for a specific resource but I don't always remember the title.

Just look at Library whilst offline - it shows only what is on your device. Once you use your downloaded resources you can more easily find them in History whilst online (the ones having a distinctive circular icon). NB. you can remove books from History via a long press.

I understand what you are saying and I guess that is one way around it. If I open them all they will appear in history. Having Wi Fi on automatically connects to my entire library that mixing all my books. It would just be nice if there was a way to easily turn it on and off.

Filtering/sorting the Library is a planned feature - http://community.logos.com/forums/t/34373.aspx
