Merging collections

I have three collections that I'd like to combine into a single one. They are all Bible Background, Language and Studies collections, one for OT works, one for NT and one General (both testaments).

Is there a simple way to go about combining them?

    Good morning David,

It is pretty easy, see steps below:

    image

    1. Open the Collection that you want to add other collections to

    2. Click on the Open button

    3. In the drop down menu locate the collection that you want to add to your already open collection and Right-Click on it. In the pop-up menu click on Include in collection.

    4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 for other collections that you want to add to your open collection.

EDIT: this will require that you leave the older collection in your system. But they take up little room and who knows you might want to use them at some point individually in a search.

Thanks, Steve, for the prompt response. This works, but there are a couple of downsides.

One is, as you say, the need to keep the original collections, which I could do without.

Another is that the imported collection appears as a single entry in the collection it has been imported into, rather than listing its contents separately.

I'm holding fire on this till I see if there is an alternative flash of insight from one of our good Logos friends. Otherwise, it may mean printing the lists out and manually importing them.

Well David, the other way is to combine the rules into a new collection. Its not too difficult.

    image

    1. Open one of the collections that you want to combine.

    2. Click in the rule box, then on your keyboard press Ctrl  A (this selects all the text). Then right-click on the selected text, in the pop-up menu click on Copy.

    3. Open a blank Notepad file. Click on a new line in notepad and press Ctrl  V (paste). Now move your cursor to the beginning of the line and insert an open parenthesis, then move to the end of the line and insert a closing parenthesis. Add a couple of blank lines for the next entry.

3a. Repeat steps 2 & 3 until you have copied all the Rules for the collections that you want to combine. Remember to add parenthesis around the Rule after you paste it temporarily into notepad.

    4. Create a New collection and name it.

    5. Copy the 1st line from your notepad file. Then paste it into the Rule box. Move your cursor in the Rule box to the end and insert a space and type OR and add a space behind it (Remember to type OR in all caps). Repeat this for the other rules in your notepad. Effectively you are combining all the rules into one large rule.

Then examine your new collection to ensure that all the resources are present. Then you can delete the older collections.
