Screen protector for the iPhone 4S?

Looking toward the latter years of my sixth decade of living, I figured it was high time to procure a smartphone, so I bought a new iPhone 4S. And, as something of an I-wish-I-had-done-that sort of fellow, I had a Zagg InvisibleSHIELD screen protector. My only issue is that the beautiful, crisp Retina resolution of the 4S is now not quite so crisp, at least what I remember it to be. Reading Logos books on my iPhone necessitates the best resolution possible.

Don't misunderstand, the resolution is still excellent, but it may be a shade less excellent than it was. So I'm thinking of removing the Zagg screen protector and going without one (the iPhone is in an Otterbox Commuter case), or perhaps trying to find a crystal clear screen protector made by someone else. I really don't want to take a chance with the screen's getting scratched.

Any thoughts?

Hi Bill

I have had an iPhone 4 since the day they came out. My daughter made me a sock for it out of a heavy micro-fibre cloth so that the screen get slightly polished every time I take it in and out.

I have just checked the screen and it is still 100% scratch free. I live a fairly active life and am involved in a lot of out door activities.

Actually the iPhone is quite robust and the screen (short of dropping it on a concrete floor) is also quite hardy.

My thoughts are make full use of the thing and don't spoil it by covering it up and blurring its output. It will probably outlast you.

When I bought my iPad i also purchased the "mandatory" screen protector, only to remove it a couple of days later because of the perceived blurriness of the screen. It is still in perfect condition and suspect it will stay that way.

My sentiment is the same as Mike and Tony, but then I read of someone who says he or she is ever so careful but something happened and now there's this scratch. Does every screen protector necessarily deteriorate the resolution to some degree.

Bill - Zagg is the largest and best screen protector company that I know of. I have one on my iPad. I would not have purchased it, but my parents did so I put it on. When ([:)]) I get my iPhone... [ahem]... I probably won't put a screen protector on it, but put it in an otterbox or the like. I think your greatest problem might be keys or coins in your pocket. If you are careful about that, I don't think you are likely to have a problem.

With that said... I have come to like my zagg iPad protector and will not remove it unless I need to. You have already paid for the thing... why not use it? By the way, did you install it or did someone else? Also, mine was "foggy" for several days but that cleared up.

I bought it at BestBuy while my wife and I were in Louisville this week, visiting our daughter, son-in-law, and their newly-arrived Felicity. I had the sales guy install it. He did a good job, and I'm going to compare it tomorrow with one at church that has no screen protector. There is a satisfaction in not having to be concerned all the time about marring the screen. I will leave it on unless the uncovered screen looks noticeably better.

BTW, I later learned that it is cheaper to buy it directly from Zagg, and I don't think the installation of the front screen protector is all that difficult.

I think you will be happier with a good case and no screen protecter. I have enjoyed an iPhone 3G, 3GS, iPhone 4 (and hopefully a 4S) and never had a scratch on the screen, only on the back when I didn't have a case. Just don't put rocks in your pocket or the keys of your Buick.

This is the reason for the 'thick' micro fibre sock my daughter made. The most dangerous place for the iPhone is in the pocket full of other stuff.

However I have never even seen a Buick so am not likely to endanger the iPhone with said keys. Are they particularly aggressive?
