iOS 5.0.1
Has anyone updated your iPhone or iPad to iOS 5.0.1 yet?
http://techcrunch.com/2011/11/10/apple-releases-ios-5-0-1-to-fix-ios-5-battery-issues/
Does it wipe out the downloaded books from the Logos app? (see one of the comments in the above link)

Ironically Peter I just redownloaded all the books I had on my iPad before the IOS 5.0 upgrade. I'm downloading the update as I type and will let you know the outcome after it installs

Hi Alabama
In some of the comments on the thread linked to above there seems to be a difference between whether or not the upgrade is done via a Windows machine or a Mac (I guess OTA is different again) with Windows updates causing data to be lost and Mac-based updates preserving them.
It will be interesting to see if the same applies to the Logos app (says he knowing that his update will be via a Windows machine!)

Good catch Graham, iPad updating from an Apple computer preserved all Logos data in the app.
It will be interesting to see the outcome from one who's updating to IOS 5.0.1 through a Windows PC

I have 455 books downloaded in iPad and have been waiting on the update hoping that the data loss problem will be fixed. I hope someone with a few less downloaded books can answer this question or that the problem at some point gets resolved.

Wow! I didn't have to wait long. Now Alabama, can I trust you?

Alabama - How long did the process take for you? I'm planning to do it over the air also.
Hoping to hear from another user who's upgraded OTA and reports no problems.
Playing it safe...
Thanks all!

I also updated my IPAd over the air and I lost no downloaded books.

No problems for me, either, on an iPhone 4 OTA.

Interesting that I found this artical while researching iOS 5.0.1
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_7-57319748-233/five-other-fixes-i-want-in-ios-5.0.1/
See item # five (5) in the list of requested bug fixes for iOS.
Goes to show, the lost recources resulting from installing iOS 5.0 impacts much more than Logos.

Please note that Apple did not change the cache clearing behavior to what it was before iOS 5.0, but instead provided a new way to mark files as not temporary or cached data and not backed up. Logos will provide an update in the near future that takes advantage of this new feature.

Hi Dave, thanks for this.
If I understand you correctly, this means that we should expect downloaded books to be lost when upgrading to IOS 5.0.1 until you have released an updated version of the Logos app. Is this correct?
If so, interesting to see what is being reported here of downloaded books being preserved.
I am a little confused, but it is late!

I just downloaded 5.0.1 OTA and suffered no loss in my downloaded books. It took about 10 minutes.

Exactly how does a person update an iPad 2 over the air? I didn't see anything in settings under general.

Not necessarily. iOS 5.0.1 may decide to clear caches in low storage situations. This could still cause downloaded books to be removed. A full restore of iOS would also cause downloaded books to be removed.

Hi Dave
Thanks for the clarification

Settings>general>software update
Also this only works if you already have updated to 5.0

In the settings area there is a tab that says "update software"

That explains why I wasn't seeing "software update", I have version 4.3.3. So since I would be updating with a Windows computer I could still potentially lose my downloaded books if I don't wait on Logos for the new update, is what I have gathered from this thread.

Jerry, since you are updating through a Windows PC (possibly erase - see OP link) to IOS 5.0 from 4.x.x your offline downloaded books are almost certain to get wiped. Sorry!

As Alan said, you must have upgraded to iOS 5 already. This is one of iOS 5's features. A word of caution: If you have downloaded a bunch of books, and have NOT upgraded to iOS 5, you might want to wait for a Logos update, or else be at risk of loosing your downloads.

Thanks Alabama and Paul for clearing this up.

I also just updated to 5.0.1 over the air. Took 10-15 minutes. Offline books are still there.
Love the new four-finger gestures!
Thanks all!

Me too! Since I can't get The New Inductive Study Guides or other Precept Workbooks on Logos yet (the funny thing is guess which software Kay Arthur uses and endorses) but have some of the first series on my Kindle for iPad app the new guestures will be great once we get the highlighting and notes. They will make my workflow switching between Kindle + Logos much smoother on the iPad.

Updated both iPhone and iPad 2 via OTA to iOS 5.0.1.
Currently re-downloading all the books that I need, and will test whether iOS will automatically delete all the books whenever it's running low on storage space. Will report back later today.

I thought someone should try it!
I have just upgraded my Ipad2 from 5.0 to 5.0.1 through iTunes on my Windows PC.
It all seemed to go well, taking just over 15 minutes, and my Logos downloaded books were preserved.
I do have a lot of free space - 25GB - which may be a factor.
So, at least in some scenarios, upgrading from 5.0 to 5.0.1 through a Windows PC preserves downloaded books.
Hope this helps
Graham

I updated iOS on my iPhone 4 from iOS 5.0 to 5.01 via iTunes on Win 7 notebook. All my downloaded books stayed safe on the iPhone. Only now I am going to do my iPad where I have much more books downloaded. I hope it will be OK.
