Hi Tes,
- Yes you can update the iPad 1 and 2. It's very useful, because you can sync or update after this without being connected to the computer just using wi-fi.
- You should note you will have to redownload your resources within the Logos app when you update to 5.0.1 which is the current release of iOS.
- You also get multi-tasking gestures...you can have a Bible open in Logos, and then swipe with 4 fingers to another app, say a book open in the Kindle app.
Here is how I plan to use these features. I have the New Inductive Bible Study Guide for Galatians/Ephesians in my Kindle app (can't get it on Logos). - Once the new highlighting and notes feature come to Logos' iPad app I can read the instructions in the study guide for marking the Bible.
- I can then swipe to the Bible on Logos and mark up the text.
Blessings,
Philana0 -
the coolest ability I've seen with the update is the ability to update your iPad further without having to plug it into a desktop/laptop with iTunes. It gives you more freedom.

Hi Tes
I couldn't find it. how I can download or update it?
It depends on whether you are already running 5.0 or not.
If you are running 5.0 you can download directly from your iPad without using a PC or Mac. To do this - when connected to a good wireless network - go into Settings on the iPad, and select the General menu.
From there you can click "Software Update" which will cause it to check for updates and it should find the update to 5.0.1 and ask you if you wish to download it.
If you are not running 5.0 you need to update from iTunes (you can also use this method if you are using 5.0 - i.e. it works for any version)
In iTunes - with your iPad connected to your computer - click on your iPad device and on the Summary screen you will see a button "Check for Update". If you click this, it will check for the update, download it to iTunes and then upgrade your iPad
Hope this gives you what you need

The first day I bought my ipad, a friend of mine, installed the itune
from my computer to my ipad, but I don't know how , I can only see this:http://www.apple.com/itunes/Blessings in Christ.

Ok
So if iTunes is correctly installed on your computer, which it sounds like it might be, you should be able to connect your iPad to your computer using the USB cable.
This will start iTunes automatically - if not, find it in your programme menu and start it.
You will then get a screen looking something like this:
- Click on your device - shown in purple on the diagram - it will be a different name than this but should be the name of your iPad
- Click on "Summary" - shown in green on the diagram
- Look at what version you have - outlined in red on the diagram
- If not 5.0.1 you can click on "Check for Update" - outlined in blue.
Please note that if you are not running 5.0 and you do upgrade to 5.0.1 you will lose any books you have downloaded to your Logos app and will need to download them again.
Hope this helps

a friend of mine, installed the itune
from my computer to my ipadTes - If you do not understand Graham's instructions, you should seek out a friend to help you. It sounds like you need a little primer on Apple things. [:)] Here is some background info:
- iTunes is a program, made by Apple, which is for playing and organizing music and video. Originally it was designed to be the means to purchase & organize music to iPod's. It works on both Mac & PC's.
- As Apple transitioned from devices without any screens (the ordinal iPod), to miniature computers (iPod touch; iPhone; iPad), iTunes became a means to purchase & organize not only music, but video (movies & tv shows) and applications (apps) as well.
- The "operating system" of the iPod touch, iPhone and iPad is called "iOS." The operating system controls how things function. As a windows user, you are probably not used to upgrading your operating system often. Apple, in a struggle to stay ahead of everyone else, updates iOS about once a year.
- Apple's website is a good place to learn more about what the new iOS will do for you (the link is above in my previous post). Since you have an iPad, you have the ability to upgrade. I have an original iPad and an older iPod touch. The touch is too old to update (the hardware is incompatible with some of the new features).
A couple of new features include: tabbed browsing in safari; an improved alert system called "notification center"; and a BBM type messaging program called iMessage (If you know anyone with an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iOS 5 installed, you can now send FREE text messages directly to them. Pretty cool).

Alabama,
Tes is looking for practical advice from someone who understands the difference of the new upgrade. I think you missed the point by directing him to Apple's website for him to take on a "research" project.
I notice you post very frequently, and you often time state the very obvious, rather than answer the question at hand.
Are you on a race to to try and run you post count up faster than anyone else in Logos history?

Did you even read my last post in this thread? Sometimes, however, the best answer is to show people where to look. My answer wasn't flippant! I took the time to visit Apple's website and find the right page for him!
Over the course of this thread I came to understand the OP's needs better. His original question was "what's the use?" When I hear someone say "what's the use?" It is often derogatory. I genuinely did not know what Tes was asking.
Are you on a race to to try and run you post count up faster than anyone else in Logos history?
Nope. I am just a volunteer who is currently unemployed. Thanks for rubbing salt in the wound. [;)] If you think you have something more profound to offer, please do so!

- Also keep in mind as your apps are updated for 5.0 they won't work as well on the earlier iOS. So keeping the operating system for your device up to date is a good idea.

Thanks Tes, I know my response was a little long, but thought it would help giving an example of how you could use one of the new features profitably. I think you will like iOS 5.
Alabama let me second Tes' words of appreciation, thank you for the help you give on the Forums. Your approach to pointing people where they can learn for themselves is great. Yes you do have a high post count...but that's a testimony to your willingness to help others!

The version I can see on my ipad is as follows:4.3.5(BL1). Is something wrong with it? Does it mean I haven't got yet the new version? I have done the download twice, but remains the same. I am looking forward for the clarification.

Hi Tes

Just checking - is everything ok, did you manage to do the download and update successfully?
Graham

To answer this question in general terms - the point of keeping all versions of Apple OS's up to date - and moving forward by updating software etc is that Apple seeks to provide a specific working environment. Keeping up with the latest versions means that features and facilities are in sync with the technical support available.
Perhaps more importantly the security of the software will alway be as good as they think it can be. The latest upgrade plugged a security issue on iPad which although relatively hard to find by an individual had recently been exposed on the internet. Apple moved (relatively) quickly to deal with this. By lagging behind with software updates one leaves oneself open to historical vulnerabilities.

Yes, the update is done successful,my first step to my e-mail account, in the first line there is a space for my name ,in the second line address in the third line for pin number ,but the forth is in German "Beschreibung" which means description, I don't know what to type there, I am woundering as well with the rest.

Hi Tes.
Glad to hear that the upgrade worked
It now sounds as though you are trying to set up email on your iPad.
Don't worry about the description field - it is used to help remind you which account is which if you have a number of them.
I'm aware we are moving away from how to use Logos, if you have further questions that are not Logos related feel free to write a comment on my profile and I will try and help.
