Problems with Logos for iPad

Greetings! I'm a novice to this, but just downloaded Logos for the iPad last night. According to what I've seen, I should be able to:

1. Tap and hold a word to access the original Greek and Hebrew words.

2. Get a report with links to dictionaries, lexicons, verses using the word, and view various translations of the Greek or     Hebrew word.

Neither are working for me on the iPad. Do I need to install or purchase other apps to enable this feature? Thanks so much!

  • Wade, have you purchased a base package? If not then that may be the answer? Maybe someone else can shed light on it.

Wade - First, welcome to the forums!

The first question I have for you is do you own a base package? The program is free, but you must pay for the resources. There are a few which come free with the app, but I am not sure if you can do word studies without owning other resources.

The second question I have is are you online? This feature requires an internet connection.

If you own a base package, you will need to enter your account information. Let me know if you still have questions / problems.

    Thank you for your welcome!

I'm assuming I own the base package because I downloaded the free Logos app from the app store.

What resources should I purchase? Can you purchase these through the app store?

Yes, I usually run my iPad with Wi-Fi.

I'm signed in with my account on the Logos app...is there another place I should do this?

Thanks again for all the help!

    Nope. That's the place. [:)]

The program is free, the resources (i.e. "base packages" or individual books) you have to pay for. Info on the base packages can be found HERE. Base packages are a good value, but they are not cheap.

Can you purchase these through the app store?

No. All purchases are made through either the Logos or Vyrso website.

Perhaps I should explain a little bit more. Logos is a premier bible study software company. The mobile apps for iOS & Android are meant to complement the desktop application (for Windows or Mac). You can certainly purchase resources without using the desktop app, but you would not be utilizing your resources to the fullest. The desktop app, just like the mobile app, is free. You pay for the resources.

Got it! That makes sense :) So if I purchase a base package for my iMac, should I be able to use this package for the iPad?

Thanks again for all the help!!

Yes you will...although there might be some that do not show up on the iPad. The issue is not Logos, but publishers giving permission, but I would guess the majority of resources are available. If you purchase a base package you might also want to add the free Perseus collections, just run a search at www.logos.com for Perseus.

Logos really is a good option, if you find the packages a little too much for your budget, take advantage of the payment plan it helps. I also put it in this perspective, my library if I purchased all of my books separately in dead tree format it would have cost well over $20,000! So Logos is a great savings...other platforms don't offer nearly the same number of resources.

that is correct Wade, in fact, you could use it on both your mac and pc if you have both in addition to using it on you iTouch, iPad, or iPhone... the big thing is that you need a base package!

if I purchase a base package for my iMac, should I be able to use this package for the iPad?

Yes, but to clarify... Most resources are available to you on both platforms, but not all. The philosophy of Logos is "buy once, use anywhere," but the publishers have to agree to this. If you are curious about a particular resource, you can check its product page and look for the iPhone icon under the book cover.

I will also add... If you purchase a base package, you can install it on your iMac, your MacBook, and the dumb PC your work gave you. [:P] The software and resources are intended for "one user." Bob Pritchett (the owner) has clarified this to include multiple computers for your personal use. Your spouse may also be included in "one user" if she is not a "professional" user (i.e. husband and wife Bible professors would need their own). If you do share with your spouse, you should be aware that "one user" means sharing bookmarks, highlights, preferences, etc. (The software & resources sync between computers.)

    Yes, but to clarify...

Whilst the base packages are great value for money - there are a few free resources - and you can purchase individual books without a base package.
