GraecaII to unicode Greek in Word docs

I have some old sermon notes - MS Word docs - with bits of Greek in them, entered in the GraecaII font that used to come with Logos. Recently, of course, unicode fonts have taken over to take care of Greek bits, and I no longer have GraecaII on my machine, so that the 'Greek bits' now appear in Roman letters.

There used to be a feature, either of Logos or of Word, by which I could run a Word doc through a quick process in which it would find all the GraecaII bits and replace them with unicode Greek. I have used this on and off over the years. Now I want to use it again, but can't for the life of me remember where this feature lives.

Can you good brothers and sisters out there help me, please? Thanks

Hi David

Try going into "Word Options" - click on the top left icon and select Word Options

Select Advanced and go down to "Show Document Content" and select "Font Substitution"

(I can't check it out because I don't have a document with fonts not resident on my computer)

The screenshot is from Word 2007 - I assume there are similar facilities on other versions.

This was part of the Graeca-Hebraica Converter Addin in Libronix DLS 3.0 (under Tools > Original Language Tools > Convert Graeca/Hebraica...). This was a free addin, but I don't remember if it's installed by default (and, if not, how to install it).

this doesn't work - at least not on my Word 2007 installation. I tried Dan Wallace's Romans Outline from here http://bible.org/seriespage/romans-introduction-argument-and-outline, which contains a small number of words in a font "Greek" (which Word recognizes as lacking on my machine). If I try to replace by KadmosU (unicode Greek font) it remains gibberish (says "aJmarthvswmen" in KadmosU instead of converting to ἁμαρτήσωμεν as the Libronix feature does, when I first replace "Greek" to "Graeca").

EDIT: Graham, this does work for non-unicode fonts: I used your feature to change the text in a not-installed font that should be Greek in the document above into TekniaGreek (a free, non-unicode Greek font by Bill Mounce, available from Teknia.com) - this of course changes the gibberish into legible Greek text. What blew me out of the water is that the Logos PB converter now (4.3 SR6) reads non-unicode Greek and makes a PB out of it without using the L3 feature!

the L3 tool referred to by Bradley will work - if it doesn't find the "Graecall" font, just search and replace all with font "Graece" as the tool says, no matter if you have this font installed. Great feature!

Thanks, everyone. I haven't yet had chance to try your suggestions - but none of you have latched onto the tool I was looking for. I suspect it was something in Libronix, which of course is fast fading into the past.

Ah yes. Sorry - clearly a 'senior moment' or two! That was the tool I previously used. Sadly I no longer have Libronix installed, and there doesn't seem to be an equivalent tool in Logos 4.

you may install Libronix for free on your machine (won't affect the Logos4 installation) from here: http://www.logos.com/support/downloads/ldls/newuser

However, you may not need this tool if you use the Word built-in feature of font conversion (as Graham showed earlier) to a non-unicode font such as TekniaGreek or, if you nevertheless want to convert to Unicode, you may find some tools mentioned in this thread http://community.logos.com/forums/t/41435.aspx
