Is there an English Translation of the LXX in the OLL or Outside a Base Package?

Greetings!

As a new user of Logos, I am still learning what is available in my base package (Original Language Library) and in the Logos catalog. However, my wife has granted me permission to spend more to reach the next Christmas Sale discount level.

My preference is to acquire an English translation of the LXX. While the OLL has a Greek edition and supporting language tools, I cannot find a full English translation (vs. interlinear) in my Logos library or outside of a base package on the Logos site.

Have I missed something?

Welcome to the forums, Dennis. And yes, you have a GOOD wife!!

Regarding OLL, it doesn't include an english translation. You can solve your problem one of 3 ways:

- Use a PDF version from the internet (Brenton, etc). eSword also has one.

- Upgrade your OLL ... the higher packages include Brenton.

The best solution, however is to buy the Lexham Interlinear Septuagint. This last choice is your best one since you need it anyway and it includes the english glosses and it's not too expensive.

When you do your word studies in hebrew, you'll likely want to backtrack automatically into the LXX greek. This resouce is needed to do that (it has the hebrew/greek database needed for the word study section). Like Brenton it's included in the higher packages.

Would you advise me on one further issue? How important is it for me to have the Lexham English-Greek Reverse Interlinear of the New Testament Bundle? (I already have the Old Testament)

Dennis ... if you didn't catch it, 'Keep Smiling' is our all around good guy ... he's likely hinting you might compare prices on the higher packages versus buying specific resources which can add up quickly.

On the Hebrew/Greek reverse interlinear, it's invaluable. It does the heavy lifting for you when you use Word Studies on a hebrew word and you want to see how the LXX handled it. In the Word Study section there'll be a LXX section that has graphs on how the hebrew was translated and then clicking on slices, you can see which verses are involved. Unbelievably much easier.

Given that you selected OLL, I assume you really want to see how things are handled, which is both when reading the Old Testament, and also how the NT writers quoted the OT (when they used the LXX). I use it as well when I'm in the syriac, because several of them went from greek to syriac when using the OT.

But Keep Smiling has a point and that is if you add just a few key OL resources, you may want to save yourself funds by a higher level. I stayed with the OLL and kept adding resources. It wasn't so smart but at the time I didn't realize just how powerful Logos was.

With my wife, we made a mistake when upgrading her Bible Study library, went to Scholar's Silver, should have upgraded to Scholar's Gold for the United Bible Society (UBS) translation handbooks that do not require original language expertise while offering lots of insights into original languages. Wiki has => UBS New Testament Handbook Series and => UBS Old Testament Handbook Series Better deal is upgrading to Scholar's Gold vis purchasing UBS series individually, especially with 2011 Christmas credit because credit is more than past sales discount for base package upgrade.

Later upgraded my wife to Scholar's Platinum, which included several resources that she is using.

Personally living and learning that other resources in Scholar's Platinum, which were not exciting at the time of purchase, do have gems to consider. For example, searching library for didache finds some Greek text with morphological tagging in Apostolic Fathers.
