Where was Aesop when I needed him?…

I got greedy and now I'm paying for it. I recently purchased a computer and 20" monitor. The 20" monitor was a beautiful thing, but… I thought–you know–if I return this one and get that 24" monitor I can make that 4th Logos column wider—something I desire. Well, turns out that 24" monitor makes me dizzy. Just too much real estate for my taste. I'm wondering if the solution is simply going to a lower magnification pair of readers.

How far away are you sitting from the monitor? You need to be a minimum of 4-5 feet from your bridge of your nose to the screen.

Have no idea about your eyesight, but I'm 51 with progressive bifocals. When I got my 24" monitor, I thought I would go nuts trying to see it. Only a small portion of the screen was truly readable. My optician suggested what she calls "computer glasses." They're basically for mid-distance, and whole lens is the same strength. I was skeptical, but they work like a charm! I love it so much that I recently added a second 24" monitor. Logos is beautiful! I wanted as much of it visible as possible.

Not from the desk but from the monitor. I sit right up on my desk but I have the screen against the wall instead of up front. That gives me about 6"-7" feet for my 24" monitor

Perhaps your idea of getting lower mag readers is on target. Might be worth a try.

I need pictures. This sounds like your desk is over 6 feet deep. Or is your monitor not on your desk?

Perhaps a better solution is two 20" monitors. That way you can have two columns on the "main" screen, and two on the secondary screen. This is what I do, but I do it with 24" monitors and a make the fonts huge.

FYI, I'm not picking on you. It's just that my eyes are comfortable about 24 inches from my main screen, and that's what I've always heard is a good distance. That's why I'm so surprised at your recommendation.

my monitor is about 3.5 feet from my keyboard, I cant touch it with my arm stetched out.. so I guess I resemble that remark

Personally crazy in the other direction since can reach out and touch my monitor as desired. Also asked my eye doctor for a single vision prescription so could easily read items in my hands. Hence, my computer monitors tend to be 12" to 18" from my nose.

Another option for magnification is a larger monitor. For example, 26" Vizio E260MV LED HDTV has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (1080p), with effective 8.3 % magnification compared to a 24" monitor (and 30 % magnification compared to 20" monitor). Personally like LED back-light. By the way, noticed prices for High Definition Televisions (HDTV) and computer monitors are very similar. Also, HDTV's have larger screen size options, ranging from 22" to 65" (albeit 65" seems bit expensive, yet has 150 % effective magnification compared to 26" since screen is physically 2.5 times larger).
