Logos "private sale" - 26 December 2011

Just saw this post from Dan Pritchett on twitter. In case the screen shot is too small to make out the text, it says:

Private sale @Logos -day after Christmas. Email sales@logos.com w/ your name & number. Ask for a call on 12/26 to get in line.

Is this likely a bespoke sale of the resources you tell them you're interested in?

I assume it means that Logos will have unadvertised sales/discounts. If you have some things you are wanting to buy, email sales@logos.com with your phone number and someone will call you on the 26th. You could also call them on the 26th, but the phone lines might be jammed, which is why Dan is telling you to email with your phone number.

Heh, I blew my book budget on a certain commentary set earlier in the year. This whole last quarter has been painful to watch as the sales came. [:p] Fortunately for me, the 12 days stuff is going to extend into January the second. [:)]

Precisely the reason I've just told my wife I'm getting a will this year that names my son as the recipient of my license. Statistically I /should/ survive till it's published final - but I'm not even certain of today - let alone tomorrow. :-) Let God's will be done.

Wouldn't it be something if you got a call from Logos on the day after Christmas with an offer of deferred billing.

I'm just thinking that if I was having a "year end" sale, that's what I would do to push up sales numbers.

Honestly, this relentless push to get us to spend more money and buy more things this past year has been tiring. I sincerely hope that my brothers and sisters have the self-restraint to not let their personal or family or church finances be overly stretched because of these non-stop bombardment from Logos.

Same here too! Budget has been tight, but God is always good because my bills always get paid and Logos is paid off! Plus, even though budget is tight, I still have some money to buy this great book that was recommended here in the forum: Why Churches Die: Diagnosing Lethal Poisons in the Body of Christ! Great book, buy it!

I'm thinking there is something really BIG going on behind the scenes. At first I believed Logos was on a cash grab campaign. That was until they offered payment plans on the Logos Credit promotion. I am betting there is some deal being negotiated and it is contingent on Logos sales figures.

I would guess Logos is buying out a competitor but the truth is probably Bob promised Dan a Lamborghini if sales top $x,000,000 .[;)]

Is everyone aware of the return of the Christmas Master Collection? When coupled with the Logos Credit promo the price per book drops well below a dollar. That is a better deal than last year!

I have sent an email requesting a call on Monday. However, I noted that if this does not apply to individual volumes (book) then do not bother to call as I have more than enough sets of commentaries.

They tried that once and it did not go well. Bob Pritchett won't do that again unless he has control of Logos all sewn up in his pocket.

I bought some DVD lectures from a very reputable life-long learning company. Excellent resources everything I have purchased, but the DVDs came at cost greater than their price! I get a new offer or catalog from the company at least once a week, and often, multiple times per week. As you say, the incessant sales pitch gets tiring.

Okay, you guessed it.

Something "BIG" is in the works. Actually, something REALLY BIG, [:#] but it has nothing to do with an IPO or us making more money. It has to do with spreading the Word of God and getting even more people engaged with the Word. The assortment and frequency of sales we are promoting right now has more to do with finding something that works and makes enough of our customers happy than it does with a money grab.

As you may have seen on the forums, with 17,000 or so titles, and many ways to bundle them and put them in collections and purchase them in sets, individually, in other packages, and so on and so forth... it is getting really challenging to find specials that can make everyone happy. That was our #1 concern this year and that is why we tried the Christmas Credit promotion to see if we could find a way to get past the hundreds of thousands of account/license permutations and make a special that was equally accessible.

We are actually more concerned with serving our customers than we are with impressing some parent organization or stock market reporter with sales numbers. We have no parent organization or owner, and we don't have a publicly listed stock, so we have no stock market or analysts to impress. Since working at Logos is the best job anyone could ever want, and if we had money we wouldn't know what to do with it, I can't imagine ever getting bought out either. What would we do all day? [:|]

The private sale is a way to get more personal. It is a real conversation with a human being, that can look over your unique account, licenses, history... and treat you like the unique individual and valued customer you are. More details on the 26th...

What of those of us who will be out of town and perhaps not accessible until after the 26th? I wouldn't be able to deal with a sales call at all the week after Christmas. Not sure at this point I'd want one anyway but I'll be focused elsewhere all that week. Can we just request a call later (maybe after the 1st)?

If we could transact via email that would be great, I would give it a try. The last thing I need is a phone call at an inopportune time. Any chance of email access? Not everyone has a life where phone access is easy at unpredictable times.

Dan, you've got my attention... but is there any way those of us who are overseas can participate? I do have a Skype number that is US based, so if you call that number, you reach me across the world. But my Internet stinks here... I have to be in a nearby town to receive the call. SO I'd need to know when you are calling and go there to wait for the call. Very doable at my end, but is it for your team? Is that possible? Or is there any other way to do this for your very loyal, heavily invested, long-term friends serving overseas? [A]

If my phone call with Dave Kaplan today is any barometer, you are not going to finish the call list before New Year's Day. But please don't think the time was not worth it. Dave is so much more personable than the self-serve checkout and he made recommendations and saved me a couple dollars.

Would it be a waste of time to have sales call me on the 26th if there is little chance of me buying more this month? I'm curious but don't want to waste their time.

Has anybody ever said you have so many sales going on it is impossible to keep up with them all?

Personally, I very much appreciate the various discount offerings this holiday to date, Dan, and look forward to the call. I welcome a more dynamic opportunity to explore the win-win possibility of my getting additional resources valuable to me and that I can really use to fill any gaps in my current library at a good price while also earning more Christmas Credit, as Logos also racks up some additional income. Worst case, I've wasted a few minutes. Best case...? Well, for that you're making us wait.

Also, while this may be a less common (popular?) sentiment felt/expressed in this forum, after spending 25 years in the mission field of the business world I've come to better understand and appreciate the difficult balance businesses run on Christian principles struggle with. (There is, in my opinion, no such thing as a "Christian business.") In the case of the Bible software business, with some companies being on life support (Biblesoft), being bought out (Quickverse) or disappearing all together (Pradis, though their resources live on in Logos... after being repurchased), I have no qualms investing in my Logos Bible software now so that I can better study and share the Word of God and, as I see it, in the long-term viability of the business to allow me to continue to do so in the years to come.

I welcome a more dynamic opportunity to explore the win-win possibility of my getting additional resources valuable to me and that I can really use to fill any gaps in my current library at a good price while also earning more Christmas Credit, as Logos also racks up some additional income. I agree, a business is not a person...so it cannot be "Christian" there are only Christian Business People (owners and employees). It's the people!

Just let us apply the Christmas credit offer to the purchase with which we're earning it, basing the resources' purchase price on the best price (non-prepub / non-community pricing) for which the resources have ever been offered.

I've probably got $10 - $12K in my wish lists right now. I'd spend a bit if there were an offer like that.
