I was thinking about how much I appreciate having the journals collections in Logos. [And there are some in the pipeline which will be released before too long.] It leads me to two questions.

1] Are there any other journals that you think NEED to be in Logos?

2] Which of the journals that we have already in Logos are most beneficial to you?

This is hard question to answer. It is hard because it all depends on your theological bent and what you will be using them for. For an example, I love the The Journal of Biblical Literature (26 vols.), but I do not use it for sermon prep. I do use it when I am putting a Bible study together.

For me personally, I do not like most of the journals that are available, and this comes from the fact that they have (in my eyes) a very conservative bent to them. Not that this is wrong or bad, because I enjoy my very conservative dictionaries and commentaries. I simply do not want to spend my money on conservative journals.

This is hard question to answer. It is hard because it all depends on your theological bent and what you will be using them for.

I was thinking the same thing but did not know how to put it politely but there is always the 30 day guarantee as well.

I am trying to better organize what I do have so my searches can be more productive.

If I were trying to categorize my journals, what kind of system might be most effective?

As my library grows, I need to give more consideration to these kinds of efforts.

For example, if I was trying to understand the passive form of "go" in Mat 28:19-20 which journal series might help most.

When I set up My Collections, i usually number the resources that I want to see at the top of my searches. Ie - 01_JETS, 02_JBL, etc. This is what I would like to do with my ALL JOURNALS Collection. But I think I do need to have a better overview of the journals already in my Library. Thanks Mark, for this list.

Here is an idea for thsoe that have some extra time on their hands. There are many good Journals (some are available in logos and some are not) that are available at no cost online. The screen shot below demonstrates an idea you might want to try for yourself.

Basically what I did was copy the Table of contents (which in this particular case includes a brief decsription of the article; applied some simple tagging and created a PB for that journal. In the PB if you click the link it takes you to the web page where that journal article resides.

The advantages:

It is searchable in Logos and the results will likely return an article (if one exists) that specifically relates to the search topic rather than just mentioning the word or phrase. Because you are really just creating a link to a web site, there should not be any worries about copyrights.

It gives you the ability to access journals that Logos does not offer through a PB stored in your library.

The disadvanatges:

Beyond the topic search, you cannot really benefit from the power of L4. If you think you would use the journal for more than reading about a certain topic; and it is one logos offers, you would probably be better off buying that resource.

You do not have the ability to search the text of the article itself

This may be something you want to try...or not[:D]

I would add to Mark's list Homiletic & Pastoral Review (who just stopped their paper version and went 100% electronic!), and The Bible Today. Both are excellent scholarly journals with many Bible references in them.

Ah, that's another feature in L3 I hadn't known about that isn't available in L4. Presumably you could share toolbars with others as well? It would be nice to have that ability in L4.

Yes, to some extend the Reading Lists allow a similar function although it isn't their original purpose.

Do you happen to have an email address to contact the folks at Tyndale about their website? I tried in vain to find one on the site, or a contact us form. I found they've got a broken link for Crux, the journal published by Regent College, and I wanted to send them the correct link: http://www.cruxonline.net. It's a pretty lame website, but at least it's the something. I've been wishing they'd put at least a few sample articles or issues online, and ideally get it into Logos format someday. It's a great journal, though. Plug, plug! [:)]

I've updated the web resources reading list - I checked that links were not dead but removed the dead links rather than finding their current URL I did not include any that did not have at least some full text online. I chose to do it this way to avoid the hassles of distributing updates and individual recompiles.
