HELP

I just ordered and downloaded Logos 4 Scholar for my new MacBookPro. Something is wrong. There is a LOT missing. The only thing I have is KJV (after logging back on and it completed the download). NO other books or helps are anywhere to be found. When I type in the words of a verse in the search bar (upper left) I come up with 0. Did I do something wrong? I hope I didn't just throw my money away. Thanks, Carol

Welcome to the forums Carol!

No you didn't waste your money. If you just downloaded Logos 4, then the software has to index your library (this allows for your searches to be faster). This can take several hours for a large library like Scholars (in the top of your Mac screen there should be a small Logos 4 icon). The icon will disappear when the index finishes (just make sure the computer stays on during the process). Once indexing finishes you will be able to access the books in your library!

Here are some tutorial links you might want to check out.

www.logos4training.com Mark Barnes has created these free tutorials. Although they are Windows based they should be pretty similar to the Mac.

Also John Fallahee has some excellent training at www.learnlogos.com. He has free webinars on Mondays and they can be purchased for download for $4.99. He has a larger group of videos that cost more (but the price is very reasonable).

I have also heard thar Morris Proctor (official Logos trainer) does some training, I haven't veiwed these because they are too much for my budget. They are at www.mpseminars.com.

Thanks Philana. You've been MOST encouraging and helpful. All I need now is TIME. LOL Been very busy lately. Just checked and it's 59% done indexing. Hope I don't have to leave this on all night. If I shut down my computer will it keep on indexing? Or continue when I turn it on in the morning. As long as I didn't have to start over. :-) I'm a computer USER and now that I have my own laptop I may have to become more knowledgable. LOL My husband won't get involved as he's not a fan of apple. You very well may need to. This is normal.

If I shut down my computer will it keep on indexing?

No. If your computer is turned off, it isn't doing anything. With modern computers, it is generally better to leave them on most of the time. They use fairly little energy when "sleeping".

Carol I would suggest you leave your computer on until the indexing is complete. Otherwise, if you shut it down it will not have your library indexed. It will restart indexing once you turn it back on, but, you will not have full use of your indexed library until the process is complete. Most people just leave it on at night and it should be done by the morning.

Carol,

Go to the apple at the top right of your screen and click on it to get the menu item 'System Preferences' select from the Hardware section 'Energy Saver'.

Temporarily shift the 'Computer Sleep' setting up to never and allow your indexing etc to finish.

Once this is done you can move it back.

Mac portables sleep using very little power and most only 'Shut down' when they are not going to be using their machine for a week or so. When you have finished what you are doing simply close the lid - when you open it again it will be ready for instant start.

New batteries do not require 'cycling' the way old ones did so it is reasonable to keep the battery fairly well charged.

The only programme that goes against this 'standard' use of Mac Laptops is Logos. You should probably aim to quite and restart the program once a day. It is a great tool but a dog of a program. It will not recognise that the day has changed as it goes over midnight and has a memory leak that eventually catches up with it.

Laptop computers can have heat dissipation issues. Logos 4 indexing intensively uses computer for an extended time; may want to consider a laptop cooler.

Thanks for all the helps. That was my concern about this being a laptop. However my daughter owns Toshiba (and she has told me it needs to be shut off once in a while) and thought I would probably be ok (maybe she wasn't thinking). I was so tired I just went to bed. This morning everything appeared ok except the power adapter didn't show a light. Then Apple came on and said there were updates. I clicked install and it tried to tell me I should connect to a power source first. Maybe it wasn't pushed in all the way. Anyways it did the installs before shutting down (I decided to shut down then reboot). At first it didn't come back on and I was extremely worried. But then it came on and finished the install and asked for my password. I also disconnected the power source and reconnected and it's showing the battery charging which if it were plugged in all night the light should be green. IN any case things appear fine and the bible program appears to have finished installing everything. As to the battery I was told that there was no way to over charge it as it would automatically shut off so maybe the side connection wasn't in all the way. I need to take some time to learn the Bible program as well as my computer. I'm not seeing the app with energy saver but will look later after I've woke up and when I get some time. Thanks so much.
