Helpful Apps in Sermon Prep

What apps do you find helpful in sermon preparation with Logos?

I use (1) Microsoft Word 2007, (2) Dropbox to store my notes and have them accessible on multiple computers, Ipad, and Andriod phone, and (3)
Evernote for storing and clipping web articles.

I've recently come across an app called Insync that stores
docs like Dropbox but with google and is cheaper if you purchase additional
storage space ($5 a year for 20gb). https://www.insynchq.com

As for sermon prep the only ones I can think of are:

Dropbox
Instapaper - (allows you to take pictures/save webpages/make lists for later reading/using. There is an android version for my phone and a desktop version when your back from the wilds of outside.)

Splashtop (it enables the iPad to act as a desktop controller giving me access to the full desktop version of Logos on the go)

Instapaper - really useful, as Paul has noted above

Evernote

Pages - I tend to script the sermon via the iPad using the Pages app. The portability of the iPad makes it easier to find a quiet spot (which is always a challenge with two young boys).

Instapaper and/or Evernote for illustrations and clippings I've come across

Dropbox to store my sermons

Quickoffice to make changes and...

Teleprompt+ for practicing my sermon (and sometimes for the delivery of my sermon if I've had a particularly busy week)

Although is preach and teach as often as the opportunity presents, I find that I'm most engaged in doing sermon research for a wide range of other preachers and teachers (of varying denominations/affiliations). Typically, I get a request for research on a passage for the following week, and occasionally for a series that is topical in nature but exegetical over a range of Scriptures. Unless otherwise requested I'll (usually) send four emails:

Commentary excerpts germane to the passage and excavated from Logos
Illustrations (swept up from web sites that specialize in illustrations, web news affiliates, or plain 'ol google searches
Sermon links to ~4 sermoncentral messages (or, sometimes sermons.logos.com, but its more difficult to pull something meaningful from there... at least for me)
Web links ... minutia or generic inter-related material that either bears on the passage, topic, outlines, or was simply interesting to me.

In developing the research I typically use:

Logos
Word 2007
Google Chrome
Cyberlink Powerdirector I frequently do bumper videos
Powerpoint because I'm a POWERpoint RANGER! (If the pastor can project points for the congregation/class, and asks for it)

This is not directed at you Brother Mark but I am dumbfounded that a preacher would outsource his sermon prep. Sermon preparation is the number 2 job of a pastor right behind sermon delivery. If I found out my pastor did this I would find another church. Really, this is very disturbing.

I completely agree... if I were writing their sermon manuscript. From my perspective, I serve as a research assistant: gathering and organizing data elements that they, in turn, do not have access to, or are not able to (do not have Logos, access to the internet, or no computer skills, etc) gather and organize in the formulation of their sermons. Its possible, I suppose, for a lazy pastor to simply click a sermon link that I provide, and read someone else's sermon from their pulpit.... however, the evidence of audio/video messages from them (well, some, but not all of them) assures me that my research is helpful, but without exception they preach their own messages.

While my parish is run by the "Order of Preachers" (Dominicans) who would not do this, I can see where a priest serving alone and needing 7 sermons a week would farm out (or borrow) some weekdays - especially if he has other teaching responsibilities. And a pastor can be gifted pastorally without being a great homilist.. So, yes, I can see outsourcing.

Of course my greatgrandfather, a Wisconsin Congregational minister and archeologist, was noted for reading his father's sermons. When he ran out of new ones, the family moved again.[:D]

I think it is just another way to get source material for meditation and study. I do not think that this service replaces the Pastor/teacher preparation but enhances their study.
