Add new german bible translations

At the moment the only german bible translation available is Luther (1545 or 1912). Please add other options like Elberfelder ("Revidierte Elberfelder" would be a dream come true), Schlachter2000 or likewise. The only other option is the SEBS "add on" - which is $324,- that's a bit rough for an additional german translation. Can't you offer the bibles individually like you do with plenty of other languages?

I tend to believe this is rather a problem of the copyright holder(s) / publishers than of Logos. It seems the German Bible Society deliberately wanted only a big, scholarly resource bundle and has a restrictive stance on licencing anything. But maybe they'll negotiate something more user-friendly to make up for the failed SESB 4.

With regards to newer bibles: Luther 1984 and Rev. Elberfelder are available resources that just wait for a licence to sell individually, whereas Schlachter2000 (if it must be....) or NGÜ as well as BasisBible would need to be tagged (maybe even morphed) and thus are not likely to come up soon.

No, this is something that Logos needs to negotiate with the publisher.

As the "licence guys" of Logos monitor this forum, they may pick up your request and try to get the respective contract signed. I'm not even sure with whom they need to discuss for Elberfelder, since the German Bible Society included it into SESB, but it belongs to another publishing house, SCM Brockhaus. The rights to Luther 1984 are with the German Bible Society, though.

No one except the German publishers could really tell at the moment - the German Bible Society for example tend to not answer to user requests, so I guess we'll just stay left in the dark concerning Luther 1984, Zürcher, BasisBibel, NGÜ, Gute Nachricht etc.

While I would love to see any number of quality German translations and paraphrases, I was wondering about the possibility of getting the "Volks-Bibel" (or whatever it is called). I know I have a free app for it on iphone. For those that don't know it, it is an effort to use contemporary idioms, slang, syntax of the German youth. I really like it. I find some of their renderings absolutely marvelous, and at other times, atrocious. But it is great fun.

AFAIK, this "translation" ( correctly called "Volxbibel", the spelling with x is deliberate and somewhat analog to writing "rulz" instead of "rules" ) is produced as an open-source project under CC-licence, which would allow anyone to make it a PB. In enhancing your description: some people would call it an "adaptive retelling" rather than a translation - maybe like the Cotton Patch Version with a different target audience: Youth missionaries use it for street evangelisation and it's the bible of choice for the Jesus Freaks movement.

don't know if you still follow this, but Luther 1984 and Gute Nachricht are now available (thanks, Logos!). See also this thread: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/52719.aspx with links etc.

Also, I revived this discussion to bring back the Rev.Elberfelder translation to the attention of Logos employees monitoring this forum. This version is no longer part of any bundle sold by Logos (probably due to the fact, that the publisher is not the German Bible Society, but SCM Brockhaus). The files are already there, LLS:1.0.597 - 2009-10-28T22:41:49Z - ELBREV.logos4 . Since SCM is now approaching the ebook world, maybe the Rev.Elberfelder and more German language resources could be made available.
