Highlighting all gone after 4.5 upgrade

Today I upgraded to Logos 4.5. I have extensive custom highlighting styles (which are still there), which I had applied to literally thousands of verses in my preferred Bible. However, after upgrading, all the highlighting in my Bible has been replace by plain yellow highlighting. Please tell me I can get my highlighting back! This will take days to fix. Help!!!!

No, the palettes are fine. Only the actual highlighting over the Bible text has changed to a basic yellow. I can erase the basic yellow highlighting and apply a custom style from my custom palette fine, but as I said, it will take days to fix that way.

Was the highlighting initially created in LDLS3 and imported into Logos 4, or was it all created in Logos 4?

Logos 4. The highlighting I applied as late as yesterday is affected. The graphics I had added to my custom styles have all completely disappeared from the margins of my Bible where I applied the custom highlighting as well.

Originally some of the highlighting styles may have been created in LDLS3 and imported into Logos 4, but all my custom highlighting styles have been heavily modified, saved and resaved in Logos 4.

I am seeing the same thing. None of the custom highlighting shows up - it's all regular highlighting (yellow). I had created a custom palette ("Mike's Visual Markup Palette") that contained styles from "highlighter pens," "inductive" and other places.

Now, all of my highlighting appears to be in one note file ("Highlighter Pens") and none in "Mike's visual..."

All of the custom shortcuts are gone except the one for yellow highlighter. I had "C" for "covenant" and "Q" for question, etc.

I am seeing the same thing as well. The highlights that came with the program are OK, but the ones I added myself in Logos 4 have all turned yellow.

Were / are the custom markups defined in a palette called "Miscellaneous Highlights"?

If so, then the upgrade to 4.5 would have created a new notes file called "Miscellaneous Highlights" and placed all the highlights into it.

So it sounds as though that part of the process worked fine.

No. My custom palette is called "Jon's Custom Markup Styles." Logos 4.5 just randomly generated a Notes file called "Miscellaneous Highlights."

I'm just sick because the same thing has happened to me! I spent a great deal of time marking my bible just the way I wanted it, only to find this morning that it's ALL been turned into plan yellow highlighting! In fact, the entire bible is now all solid yellow! I've tried unchecking all the highlighting possibilities except for the one I use which is my copy of precept inductive bible study highlighting style and yet that's all that still shows. So I tried unchecking everything except the new misc. one and that removes the majority of the yellow highlighting so at least the entire bible isn't yellow, but every single verse that I applied any highlighting to is now yellow! I just want to cry! What can I do??? Is there any way to get my highlighting back??? I feel like I'm having a nightmare.

Jon,

The next time you sync, Logos 4 should download two new documents: "Jon's Additional Markup Styles (Fixed)" and a "Miscellaneous Highlights (Fixed)". These will contain your highlights from Logos 4.3, and your Bibles should be highlighted correctly.

When you've verified this, you can delete the old documents (without "(Fixed)" in the name) from the File menu, and rename these documents.

Cindy, I wonder...

The default style for Notes now is that they place a yellow-ish background behind the passage or selection that has been highlighted. I don't know if you might have notes attached to the whole Bible or to whole Bible books and that may cause this behavior (or just so many note files it 'covers' the Bible).

One way to check is to see if you have any note files checked to be displayed on the visual filters drop down list (that three circle icon) of the Bible manifesting this. Unchecking one or more might clear part the screen of the yellow. (In fact I'd uncheck them all to see if this is what is wrong.)

In the meantime, please don't try to manually repair your highlighting, as that may end up creating duplicates when we repair the data on the sync server.

You're kidding?? I hate that! No, I don't have notes on the whole bible or even on chapters, but I do have a lot of notes on a lot of verses.... Is there any way to change it so it won't leave that yellow mark or is this now something I'm going to have to live with? (I'm sincerely sorry if I'm sounding hard to please--I'm just being honest though and having that yellow (or any other color marking my bible just because I have a note attached to the verse is really very annoying to me)

BTW, I just took another quick look and there are verses highlighted with the yellow that don't have any notes as well as verses that do have notes. Also, regardless of which it is, I can click erase and erase the yellow. That's good--but I really don't want to have to take the time to go through and erase the entire bible and on top of that, I really want my highlighting back so I don't have to do it all over again either....

Cindy, Dave's advise to not mess around with the text is the advise to follow.

That yellow background appears only when you have attached a note to a selection, not to a reference, and can be changed. I simply wondered if you had so much highlighting that this is what you were seeing. The test I suggested (doesn't change anything) was to uncheck those note file entries in the Visual Filter menu to see if that was the culprit.

I think Logos will be able to rescue your highlighting from what I am reading elsewhere, but it may be affecting many more people that we are hearing from here on the Forums, so may take awhile.

I'd be mighty frustrated, too.

I apologise for the frustration of having your highlights changed to yellow, and for the delay in getting it repaired. We're still working on the problem, and if all goes well we plan to release an update tomorrow to fix this bug.

The update/fix will change all the yellow highlights back to the highlighting styles you used in 4.3 (as long as you haven't modified those highlights since you upgraded from 4.3. If you have modified the highlights, we will assume that you have repaired/changed it manually and we won't fix it automatically. For this reason, we advise not editing the "Miscellaneous Highlights" before the fix is released.)

You won't be forced to have "that yellow mark" on verses that you've taken notes on (once the fix is released); your resources should go back to looking exactly how they looked in 4.3.

What other company actively monitors its forums in such a thorough and fast way, what other company has its techs viewing its forums and actually then working straight away to reprograme and fix a bug.

I never ceased to be impressed. This includes all the little things, like allowing husband and wife to share the one licence and install one purchase on both of their computers and the list goes on and on.

Thanks guys, but I'm afraid it's too late. When I opened my bible yesterday and saw all the yellow I freaked out and erased all of the book of Matthew before I realized it might be because of the update. Oh well, what's done is done.

No; when we release the fix, it will automatically move the highlights to the right note files and change the yellow colour back to what it was in 4.3.

I now have the same issue...I didn't at first, but after upgrading my home desktops (I was travelling this week) one of them developed this bug & then that replicated rapidly to the other two--so now I've got lots of yellow. Since Ward brought it up, I too have been having the sync error since this happened. I didn't think it was related so didn't say anything about it before.

So I still have the sync error and the yellow...

I know that you all said not to try and fix anything, but as I said, that was my first instinct when this happened and I erased all the yellow from at least one and half books before I came here and you said that. I'm sure I'm not the only one though... I have to wonder how many others are having this problem and had also erased or tried to fix the problem in some way before seeking help about it the problem, and there's probably some that have the problem that still haven't tried to get help for it and are trying to fix it themselves... the reason I'm bringing this up is because you might want to take it into consideration as a lot of folks may wind up with the duplicate problem once you do repair the data... know what I mean?
