Notes and highlights sync temporarily disabled
This morning around 9:30am PST we disabled syncing notes and highlighting up to the server for iOS users. We did this because of bugs discovered that could potentially corrupt notes and highlight data. We are in the process of determining if any user's data has actually been corrupted.
We are currently testing the fixes and will be submitting an emergency update to the App Store as soon as possible.
Any notes and highlights you make on your iOS device will be preserved on the device. Once the app has been updated with the fixes, syncing will resume and any notes and highlights you made will be synced up. If you delete the 2.0.1, any notes and highlights made on the device will be deleted as well.
I'm very sorry we did not catch this during our beta testing period. We have just added a person to the mobile team dedicated to testing. If you would like to help beta test future versions, I do have a few positions available. Please send an email to iphone@logos.com. Unfortunately we have to limit the number of devices we can use for beta testing because of restrictions of the Apple developer program.
Thanks for hanging in there with us.
Dave

Thanks Dave. I thought I'd post my problem because I'm worried I might have a corrupted note/highlight. My Logos 4.5 SR-2 (4.50.0.1869) is fine as long as I don't go near a highlight in 1 John chapter 2 (ESV). If I go near the text Logos crashes. Everything else seems fine as long as I stay away from 1 John in the ESV.

Please post logs of the crash to the Windows or Macintosh forum (depending on the platform you use; a developer from one of those platforms should be able to review your logs).

Thanks Bradley but how do I post a "log"? Is it just posting my problem in the Windows forum? I'm kinda new to this stuff.

The log files themselves should be created automatically in your "Documents\Logos Log Files" folder. (More details are here: http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging#What_do_I_do_with_them.3f)
Instructions on uploading them to the forum can be found here: http://wiki.logos.com/Uploading_Logs

Wiki has => Diagnostic Logging with Windows (PC) and Mac sections.

Dave,
Thanks for your work on this. One question: does this mean that only *uploading* of highlights from iOS devices is affected, but *downloading* highlights to iOS from the PC app is unaffected?

Yes and no. The iOS app will download highlights (from your PC) as long as you haven't changed anything on your mobile device. Once you edit/add/remove notes or highlighting on iPhone/iOS, it will try to upload your changes--which will fail--and sync will be disabled. (There is no indication in the iOS UI if this has happened.)

Thanks. I will wait for the fix before highlighting more.

OK, now I am getting freaked out. Saturday 12/28/12 - 12:04 a.m. and it is working both ways! Is this a mistake or did you guys stay up late getting things fixed?

Ok, now you are freaking me out, are you writing this from a time machine? Or just from a rift in the time/space continuum?

I'm still crashing on my iPad even after this disabling.
My workaround is to go into airplane mode, then restart Logos, exit airplane mode, and see how long it lasts...

Hi Michael
I've started to see this as while.
Previously - after the disabling - the updated app worked ok when online, now it crashes unless I am in airplane mode.

I am not seeing crashing, and sync appears to be working both ways now.

I was wondering if the sync was back up? I have been out and about and highlighting and adding notes from a mobile device (iPhone 4). I have just fired up L4Mac and it appears everything has synced as expected.
[Edit: Fred, you beat me to it!]

still getting crashes when trying to sync notes and highlights, BUT the good news is three reading that I started on the first of the year just showed up and are synced as well.

My highlighting is still not syncing up. I am able to read and highlight on iOS devices just fine. Just nothing syncs up to the Desktop. Syncing from Desktop to iOS works though.
Once these main bugs get worked out, this is going to be incredible. The custom highlighting abilities on iOS and Desktop is better than any other app I have worked with! Nice!
Also loving the 'Download All' functionality added to iOS.

My highlighting is still not syncing up.
Ed - The notes & highlights are temporarily disabled.
Thanks Alabama24! I kind of figured that but it appeared that Fred, Andy, and Kenneth were having some luck syncing so I thought I would give an update too.
Perhaps Logos is working on the issue and temporarily turning stuff on and off in the process?

Ed - The notes & highlights are temporarily disabled.
Strangely, they are not at my end. I have just run a test and added three notes from my iPad and opened up the resource on L4Mac and, hey, presto, everything has synced as expected.
I was unaware of the downtime and have been making notes from my iPhone throughout the afternoon. As far as I can see, all have successfully synced.
I wonder if they are selectively disabling/enabling in order to test the system? Or, alternatively, perhaps the most urgent issue is fixed and they have re-enabled, but not yet had chance to announce it?

It is strange that some work and some do not. I am one that Logos crashes upon opening on iPad. Guess I'll be using my Logos on my Android Tablet at church tomorrow... without highlighting and note taking
Hope this is fixed soon,
Jim

One of the developers mentioned that this might be the case for some users, but officially they are still disabled.

Hopefully it will be fixed for everyone shortly.
I am very, very impressed with the improvements with the app. It is a huge leap forward and I can safely say that the Logos app via the iPad will now be my reading device of choice (resulting in less purchases through the Kindle store and more through Logos and Vyrso).
I am very pleased.
Thank you Logos!

I agree with Andy. I am SO excited about the iPad app and the upcoming fixes. I'm going to use it a lot for reading and researching. I am looking forward to the coming months of new releases!!

Does anyone know the statis of this issue? Was the app fixed and submitted and we are just waiting on Apple's approval? Is the app still being worked on and yet to be submitted to Apple? Will the sync be disabled until the update is available?
Better yet.... can some of us having problems get a beta to install while waiting on Apple's process of submitting and approving?

My understanding is that the sync will be disabled until the fix, although some users have had mixed results. There is no word about the fix, but it will download as soon as it is submitted & approved.

Beta testing for iOS apps is not like for other programs. Apple only allows a limited number to participate. Furthermore, you should be aware of the risks. I have been beta testing the mobile apps for a couple of months, sometimes going through times of losing everything and having to reload. (By the way, that is kind of the point of beta testing... not to get all the cool features in advance, but to help work out the bugs). If you are interested, you can send a request to iphone@logos.com. I do not know if there will be a beta for this issue released before it goes live to the public or not.

I'm puzzled about this since sync is still working for me. Tried it just a moment ago with a highlight I made on the iPad - showed up on the desktop within moments. Not sure what to make of it given the word that sync has been turned off.
