Important

Using this version will cause notes, highlights and favorites to be migrated to sync v2. To use these features again in Logos 4 desktop, you will need to be running Logos 4.5.

New

  • Notes
  • Highlights
  • Book covers view (iPad)
  • Library sorting
  • Inline footnotes
  • Media resource viewer (double-tap an image to activate)
  • Requires iOS 4+

Improved

  • New fonts
  • Improved Hebrew and Greek text on iOS 5
  • Favorites are available offline
  • Favorites folders are synced from the Logos desktop app
  • Favorites added offline are synced when online
  • Word info popover is scrollable

Fixed

  • Sharing via Twitter crashed on iOS 5
  • Stopped some memory leaks

Known Issues

  • Media resources that had been downloaded must be removed and redownloaded
  • Deleting a notes document on another device will cause a deadlock and require an app restart.
  • Tapping on “Read the Bible in a year” while not signed in, then tapping the “Sign In” button when prompted will result in a crash.

I have installed the new IPAD app and it is still not syncing the reading plan.  If there is anything else I can do to get it to work please let me know.

James - they have already said that there will be a minor interim update in the near future for the reading plans.

Hi James! Welcome to the forums. Sorry you are having troubles.

FYI - Logos has undertaken a major initiative to update the sync infrastructure across computers & devices. It was decided that highlights & notes should be done first since it was a larger task. Reading plans are scheduled for a future update. Public beta testing is already underway for the changes to the desktop app (4.5a) and a private beta will begin shortly for the mobile app. The stated desire is for a "very short" beta cycle for this change, however, unexpected bugs / glitches with the new release may cause some delays.

When the update is ready for the mobile device, it will appear as an update in the iTunes store (like this update did).

I just upgraded Logos on my iPad but it crashed right afterwards. I can no longer open it. The upgrade was to add notes and highlights. What do I do now? [:(]

Sometimes a restart of the ipad fixes the problem. Or, you could redownload the program.

I haven't had troubles with the Logos update, but I've encountered it with other apps.

Did you delete the app first? Did you do a hard shut down of the device?

Hi, yes, I deleted the application first, including Vyrso that doesn't work either. After that I shut down the device, and then turned it back on once again. The next step I did was to  download both apps again, but got the same results.

I don't know what you mean by "hard shutdown."

Thank you again for trying to help,

2.0.1 crashes on its own after install while syncing.  Will not restart short of a fresh install, and then repeats same behavior.  Unusable.

iOS devices still have power running to them when they are "off." To turn the battery off, press and hold BOTH buttons at the same time for as long as 10 seconds or so. You may get an "are you sure" and a red slider. This turns the battery completely off. (By the way... if your battery is getting really low and you want to make sure you could make an emergency call, you would want to turn the phone off in this manner.)

This technique may or may not work for you. This has worked for several users, and has not worked for several more. [:S] It is a simple procedure though, and worth a try.

Vance - First, welcome to the forums! Sorry you are having troubles. If you are willing, please try the following:

    1. Delete the app completely.

    2. Redownload the app, but do not open it.

    3. Do a hard shut down as I described above.

    4. After a minute, restart the device.

    5. Open the app, but DO NOT allow it to download anything (i.e. it will ask you if you want to download your bible. click cancel

    6. Try to just let the app sync for a while. You can keep an eye on the spinning wheel.

Thanks... I just tried this procedure and the problem remains.   After the initial crash which is apparently sync related, the app crashes immediately when I try to restart it.  Is there a way to find n older version to use until this is fixed?

Probably not. This is because of how iOS devices & the app store work. The only thing I can think of is if you had the old version on your computer and it had not been updated yet, you could do a restore of the device. You would be at risk of losing information for other apps as well.

put the device into airplane mode and try it... I think that you will find that this will clear up the issue, since from what we learned yesterday, many of the issues of crashing seemed to come from syncing... if you have the device in airplane mode it can not sync and then should run for you until the syncing issue is resolved.

Thanks but that means no wifi thus no ability to access any resources.  Your idea would work, i suppose, if I had already downloaded needed resources onto device before this problem developed.  unfortunately that is not the case.

Try putting device in airplane mode, start Logos, and then turn wifi back on. Should be able to download books.

Thank you for the very useful options, highlighting and notes that have been added.

For me, it was really worth the waiting.

Please keep up the good work.

I have been having trouble with trying to read my books since the update. Everything is shifted up and to the right so that I can't read the last word of every sentence. This makes it very difficult to read my reading plan every evening. Yes, I can guess what the word should be but it was working fine before the update.

    Hello Steven,

This is a known issue with some devices running older versions of iOS and has already been sent to our development department.

I think the reason we expect more is the investment we've made in our libraries.  Over lots of years, I've got over $10,500 into my library.  I haven't spent even a fraction of that on all other software combined.  Logos is great, but I tend to hold them to a higher standard.  I appreciate the effort of those who are working on the mobile apps - id just like to hear more about how it's really going and anticipated release dates.  With daily emails about new titles for sale, it would be great to hear more frequently about software development.  Anyway, thanks for your good work and I'll try to practice a bit more patience:)

Vance - Sorry you are disappointed. Personally I think it is best for Logos to be cautious about giving any sort of timetable as this inevitably causes more problems than it solves.

Currently I am beta testing for the mobile app. Logos has already released 2 betas and today released RC1. ("RC" stands for "Release Candidate.") This does not tell you when the fix will be released, but it does tell you where the process stands. I don't know if there will be an RC2 or not - it depends upon whether any significant issues pop up. Once the developers feel things are good to go, they will submit the app to apple for review. Once it has been approved, the app will appear as an automatic download for you in the app store.

Curious, do you know how long it typically takes Apple to verify a submitted app before it is available for download? Thanks.

A valid status. It does say that at least apparently the problem is understood and a fix could be soon. I do think some sort of status is appropriate after several days. I understand the potential gotchas of LOGOS saying anything (this group is not very understanding of additional delays that might arise if a date was even suggested). However, with a widespread issue impacting many people, it seems that some sort of update should have been appropriate. Your status fills this void   (as a beta tester and VIP this makes it almost official), however a LOGOS official response would have been nice - and maybe should have been expected.

  • Please help me someone.  Ever since I have updated to the new software for my iphone and ipad, I cannot open either.  It just keeps on crashing.  I have tried all the things mentioned below and nothing works.  I can open the app in airplane mode, but of course it doesn't contain any books yet!!!!  So that is pretty worthless.  I have invested over $20,000 in logos resources and use the apps continually as I travel alot.  I am completely shut down now.  I cannot get anyone at Logos technical to return my e-mails or any response in anyway! I am hoping that someone can help.  Unfortunately I updated the apple software as well so I do not have the previous Logos app in my backup.  I am completely stuck.

Thanks for any help,  Steve Walker

Steve - While many of us are eagerly anticipating a fix for this (you're not alone), you may try putting your device in airplane mode, open app, resume wifi and you should be able to view and download books. However, if your situation is like mine, if you try to switch apps it will crash.

  • Thank you, you are a lifesaver...I was able to download several books and use them following your method.  However, it wasn't perfect.  Small to medium size books seemed to download ok ( I have so far only tried 4), but when I tried a bigger download (ie., Unger's Bible Handbook) it kept on crashing before the download was completed.  Then I had to shut everything down and restart using airplane mode.  My smaller books were in the Library but Unger's was not.  Oh, well, I am glad I can at least use some of my Bible's and commentaries.

Is Logos going to correct this in a future app update??

    Thanks

Peace to all!              *smile*                  and                 Always Joy in the Lord!

Be prepared for extremely long download times for the update, due perhaps because people all over the world are downloading Logos and Vyrso at the same time.  I decided to download on my desktop and sync with my iPad 2 later, and the download time for Vyrso was 11 minutes.  Haven't tried Logos yet, but I thought I'd give a warning since if one is downloading from a mobile application, one does not get to see quite so clearly how long it is taking and one might get a wee bit impatient and one might even even give up, eh??   *smile*

I am pretty sure that the long download times has more to do with Angry Birds and Doodle Jump, which both had updates tonight as well. [:D]
