Can We Talk About the Pink Elephant in the Room?

I love my Logos software. Like many others, I am heavily invested. But can we have an honest dialogue about the Logos app for the IPad?  When it works I love it. But, it is so unreliable I cannot use it. I am pretty sure I am not alone.

Even before the upgrade. It crashed often, usually when I needed it the most. I have been using olive tree during my group bible study because it has never ever crashed on me. I have lost count of how many times the app has let me down.

And now this latest upgrade.  No word that I can see from Logos about progress or timeline regarding fixes. I just tried it again and it downloaded some of my books, crashed, and upon reboot froze up solid.

I am one of the nicest and most patient people on the planet (!) but even I am getting cranky about the pink elephant.

Am I alone?

    Hi Garrett [;)]

I'm sorry to hear about the crashing. I use it on my iphone and ipad, and don't remember when it last crashed, but I only use it for reading (and now highlighting). Do you know what causes the crashes, or remember what you were doing?

The crashing is a known issue with the latest update, when it tries to sync. They are working on a fix. This only happens when in syncing notes and highlights.

Actually mine crashes when it tries to download the library--not when I am doing anything with highlighting.

I am guessing that my app crashes more often then not.  Seriously.  It is for me not a question of if it crashes but when it crashes.

I'm not really trying to start some sort of rebellion here.  My purpose is to try and figure out if I am the only one who is experiencing this kind of aggravation.  Absolutely hands down, at the risk of sounding like a whiny brat, this app is the most unstable of ANY I have owned.  (Oh, wait.  I bought Infinity Blade II for my grandkids and it has never worked.  But then, I do not have thousands of dollars invested in it!)

You are not alone! The latest update has rendered Logos unusable on my iPad. However if I am being honest, it is nothing more than an annoyance, and I am sure it will be fixed... when it is fixed! At least for straight reading we can still use the Vyrso app (crosses fingers)

"Elephant in the room" is a metaphorical idiom for an obvious truth that is being ignored or goes unaddressed.

"Seeing pink elephants" is a euphemism for an intoxicated hallucination. (But we knew what you meant.)

Ah!  So you noticed how I effortlessly and deftly melded both idioms into one to convey maximum impact!

To my surprise and relief I have had no problems with the new updates to Logos and vyrso - didn't even lose my books.  But I haven't tried to sync and use very few notes and highlighting at the moment.  In fact Logos and vyrso are crashing less since the update than before it.  I wonder why it plays havoc with some people and not with others?

I mention this because Garrett asked what other people's experience had been.  No way would I deny  the problems you face and the hassle they cause you.

I think you will get more use out of Logos specifically and your iPad in general if you lay off the sauce or whatever it is that is inducing your intoxicated hallucinations. [:D]

More on topic, I'm not seeing a lot of crashing. My reason for not being able to use the app had to do with notes and highlighting until I tried to jigger my reading plan on the computer which then made it unavailable to my iPad. I'm almost there with notes and highlights for reading other books, but still don't use it for the one thing I wanted it most - to do my daily bible reading.

Sorry about the instability. Much of the crashing in versions up to 2.0.2 was due to streaming resources not handling spotty network connections well. Our resource display code was originally written for having files on disk and mobile networks fail a lot more frequently than disks. Apple's crash reporting is woefully inadequate; it almost never reported crashes. As of version 2.0 we've included separate automatic anonymous crash reporting so we can find and fix crashes more effectively.

The Logos app is now working flawlessly for me on my iPad2 / but I still cannot get the Vyrso app to work. Constant crashes. I deleted and reinstalled numerous times, and waited for the new update release. Nada. Not big since the Logos app is what I depend on - but no Vyrso use.

Dave--thanks for your kind email.  You do a great job.  I hope you get settled into your new digs quickly.

Any suggestions regarding the use of the button "download all" in the library?  My attempt to do so has failed multiple times over the course of the last 20 hours.  (I got through to the letter "E" and now it will not download any additional resources.).  I am using my home wireless which is quite reliable. Also, I set my IPad so it never "times out."  I have the 64 GB model so I assumed it would all fit.  I suspect this is not the case.

Maybe the "download all" button does not really mean it will download all of my 3600 resources? Maybe this needs some clarity?

    Thanks again.

Since you are having troubles with "download all," I would suggest filtering your library & download. You might want to, for example, start with bibles. When you click "download all" it will only download what is being filtered. Once you have downloaded most of your library this way, you could then do a "download all" unfiltered, to catch the rest.
