Problem: IOS 2.0.2 / 4.5a Beta 3 (4.51.0.1956) PC to ITOUCH still not syncing

I have updated both ITouch and PC with today's latest updates. However I still have my original problem.

1. PC highlights do not appear on the IOS device.

2. The IOS highlights appear on the PC in a "MY Highlights (2)" file instead of the "MY Highlights" file.

3. The sync wheel on the IOS device continually turns as if the sync is not completed.

Don't know if this should be fixed yet or not. I did want raise it as an issue in case it should be fixed now but is not.

The "My Highlights" file is a large file on the PC if that is important.

I have rebooted the PC. I have force close LOGOS on the IOS device.

    Hi Danny,

    This sync issue is likely a result of running earlier Beta versions of 4.5a on your iTouch.  Please uninstall Logos from your iTouch and perform a hard restart, and then reinstall 4.5a Beta 3 and try things again.  If that doesn't work, do one more force restart of Logos on your iTouch.

    Please let me know what happens, I check this forum every day.  Thanks!

    First off, 4.5a beta is for a PC and the logos app is for the itouch... they are not interchangeable and .  2ndly, if you are using an Itouch, unless it is a 4, you are more than likely missing some features.

    Thank you for your input Kelly!  Maybe it's something about working 15 hours today and discussing Desktop and Mobile versions all the time (among other issues), so I apologize if I mixed things up this time (and apologize to you as well, Danny).  

    I hope you can both forgive me.  My only intent was to solve Danny's sync issue.  Thanks!

    Thanks to Reverend Kelly's important input I wish to correct my above statement - 

    Please change every instance of "4.5a..." above into "2.0.2" and please DO NOT uninstall Logos from your PC/Mac!!  Installing the new beta version of Logos iOS 2.0.2 on your iTouch (after an uninstall and a hard restart) is what I meant to say.!!

    You've mentioned "iOS highlights appear" on your PC, so I assume you are able to create highlights/notes on your mobile device - is that accurate?  In any case, my only intent is to help solve your sync problem and hope I didn't cause additional ones.

    I hard stopped the application on IOS LOGOS 2.0.2. I deleted the IOS LOGOS 2.0.2 on the ITouch. I powered the ITouch down. I ran sync with ITunes without the LOGOS. I powered back up the ITouch. I reinstalled IOS LOGOS with ITunes.

    Same issues.

    I hard stopped IOS LOGOS again. I powered off the ITouch. I restarted the ITouch and then LOGOS.

    Same issues.

    Two things I notice. 1. The "My Highlights" template with custom highlights no longer shows on the ITOUCH. 2. New "Highlight Pens (2)" and (3) files show up on the PC containing the ITouch highlights. It is as if instead of syncing with the proper files on the PC it creates a second file with the same name but marked out with a (*) numeric number.

    Kevin,

    No problem. I knew what you meant to say. From previous years of long programming support hours I understand how easy it is to not say what you mean.

    Unfortunately, it still does not work. You are correct, I am seeing the ITouch highlights on the PC. However, as indicated they appear to be placed in the wrong files (non synced). Maybe this is intended - not a big problem unless the two types of highlights are intended to be totally interchangeable.

    The issue of not seeing PC highlights on the ITouch is obviously more of an issue. The fact the sync wheel keeps turning implies to me that it is not completing the sync.

    I  believe that the missing features only impact ITouch G2 and under. The issue is whether or not it runs IOS 5 I believe. Mine is G3 and is running the latest IOS.

    You were right about the other terminology. However, I knew what he meant.

    Thanks for the input though as others might have taken incorrect steps.

    Danny - Some questions out of curiosity:

    1. How much time are you giving the app to sync?
    2. When you reinstall, do you answer in the affirmative to download the bible? Have you tried answering no?
    3. When you write that your template doesn't show up on your iPod, do you mean the folder doesn't appear?
    4. When did the "Highlight Pens (2)" and (3) files show up? Are there many notes inside? Have you tried moving the notes to the "Highlighter Pens" folder on your PC?

    I am glad that you knew what Kevin meant! LOL I was not sure how long you would try to put L4 on your ITouch... to no avail.  But as long as you knew the difference.  I meant to ask you which iTouch you had, but you have answered that now.  So far to my knowledge this is the first time that we have had an issue like this, which leads me to believe that it is something more with your iTouch, than it is a bug, yet we still don't know what is going on. I am glad that I am not a programer/code writer... It might be fun, but I would be lost.

    I'm seeing the same issue here as well.  Mine is on an iPhone 4S and and iPad 2.  I've launched both, stay on the home page while the Internet activity indicator spins.  it does this for about an hour before the app exits.  Just now I've deleted the app from my iPad and am cold booting it to see if that solves the problem.  Will post an update once I know.

    I initially had a couple of crashes, but then I noticed the app was still syncing. I waited until syncing was finished, and the the app ran beautifully. Thank you Logos.

    A suggestion: When the newly downloaded app asks if you want to download the bible, tell it no. Also, what version of Logos are you running?

    4.5a Beta 3 (4.51.0.1956) (Update Channel: beta) on my Mac and 2.0.2.2368 on my iPad / iPhone.

    I do have a bunch of highlighting though (entire NASB highlighted with inductive study pallet plus a bunch of others) so I assume it's taking a long time to download them all.

    I'd already said yes to download the ESV.  If it crashes again - we're at 46 minutes - I'll try again and tell it no.

    After 55 minutes 19 seconds of spinning the Internet activity icon, the iPad app exited.  I'll try again and tell it to NOT download the ESV

    I will go back and try this. I have always answered yes. However, the default bible is NKJV. The Bible that I have been testing with is ESV. I have removed the Bible and redownloaded the Bible / tried it without downloading it. No joy.

    Yes the PC customized folder no longer shows up. It did prior to this latest update.

    4. When did the "Highlight Pens (2)" and (3) files show up? Are there many notes inside? Have you tried moving the notes to the "Highlighter Pens" folder on your PC?

    These showed up after the ITouch synced with the PC following the latest update (Note: prior to this update the same phenomena occurred though). The ITouch created highlights show up on the PC, but are placed in these (*) folders instead. The only highlights in these folders are the ones created on the ITouch.

    I am running the lastest 2.02 IOS Logos and the latest PC Beta R3 downloaded both yesterday.

    I might also add that the customized highligh folder on the PC is very large. It contains highlights from throughout the ESV that I made throughout last year as I read through that Bible. It also contains most of my other highlighting from a number of resources.

    After selecting no to downloading the Bible - 55 minutes and 45 seconds later, it crashed.  So, it doesn't look like downloading the Bible has any impact on whether it gets everything downloaded or not.

    Is there any way I could submit my log files to help get this figured out?  I'm an Apple Developer so I can get the crash dump if that would help any.

    Ditto on the reply no to the default Bible. I also just tried that and to no avail. It tries to sync for awhile and then shuts down.

    It dawned on me that I had a second PC and ITouch with my same logon that had not been updated. I have now updated both of them, but to know avail. The other PC did sync just like my personal one, but the other ITouch (G4) does the same as mine - continuous attempts to sync with PC highlights.

    I had to add a .txt extension as the .crash file isn't an allowed file type.

    Of no real surprise, the problem also effects notes (same mechansims after all). Notes taken on the ITouch sync to the PC but notes from the PC do not appear on the ITouch.

    Also, previously on IOS 2.0.1 (?) I would see all my note files when I added highlights or notes on IOS in the "where do you want to put it" options. (even though I did not see the actual highlights or notes from the PC).  After  the uninstalls and reinstalls of IOS 2.0.2 I no longer have any evidence of any of the files from the PC.

    Any thoughts yet on this problem.

    I am a tinkerer and ex system programmer. I thought I might try moving some highlights around on the PC, deleting some of my custom highlights, or something if there is no idea what the problem is. However, I do not want to complicate things, nor do I want to spend a lot of time on something that is beyond my control to fix. I would prefer (an understatement) not losing the years of highlighting, but I do want to move forward. As long as I know that I will hear something, I can wait, but if the problem is not being looked at since (if) it is an isolated problem, I will move forward to diagnosis/attempt to fix it myself.

    I don't guess there is a way to clear the sync data on the server or on my PC (one possible diagnosis is that there is a data corruption ptoblem somewhere) and have it resync. Or is there a way for me to backup my highlight/note data and then delete the files to figure out if it is a size issue or if the corruption is in the highlight/note file itself?

    Need some input from someone that knows. I may be just jumping the gun and need to be patient but it seems like I might be alone (or almost alone) in having this problem.

    Danny - I would upload your log info here. Although some employees work on the weekend, the office is closed, so I wouldn't expect a reply until early next week.

    3. change email address to your own and send
    4. upload the file here

    Also, you wrote that your highlight file is large. How large? Can you ACT like you are going to print the note file (don't actually do it!) and see how many pages it would be? [My largest one was 115, fwiw. I do know that Logos worked with a larger one in office].

    Alabama, thanks for the reply and help. Yes, I figured that no one was around over the weekend, but though I would give it a try anyway just in case.

    My "My Highlights" file is 764 pages long (553 of which is Bible highlights) if I do the attempt to print. Do you know of a way to either move portions to other files, or back it up and try deleting it?

    What logs would I use since the problem seems to be on the ITouch not receiving the data?

    Do you know of a way to either move portions to other files, or back it up and try deleting it?

    I did a reorganization of my main file, which was ONLY 115 pages. It took me 4+ hours and was tedious. I think that Kevin will need respond when he gets back in the office. Sorry!
