Windows 7 font rendering?

Hello,

I'm a new user of Logos 4 (as of today), and upon opening it up for the first time I've noticed that font rendering is quite disappointing. I've searched through the forums and apparently this has been a problem in the past, but I'm wondering if anybody still finds that on Windows 7 text in Logos doesn't look as good as it does elsewhere on your computer? Is there anything I can do to correct this?

The root cause is on M$ side, within the software that Logos uses for text presentation (WPF 3.5)

Google on "fonts and WPF" for more information, but note that Technical issues prevent Logos from using WPF 4.

Thanks Dave. Just so I know that I understand correctly: there is no workaround or other way to fix this? Is this something that we can expect to see resolved in a future update?

In the future, yes. But it may be Logos 5 rather than Logos 4.

There is a non-MS and non-Logos way to get better rendering in Logos under Win7, but it does have some drawbacks in some other programs.

gdipp is a replacement font renderer for Windows, that works in Win7, but I have found rendering issues on other programs where it will drop some letters (Acronis programs seem to be notorious about having missing letters when using gdipp).

One drawback I have found with using gdipp with Logos, is that while the fonts are much smoother, on a laptop, looking at the screen at too much of an angle causes the darkness of the fonts to seem to lighten up noticeably as the text is further from your point of focus.

Also, gdipp seems a bit odd about first picking up Logos to handle the rendering. After installing, be sure to reboot you machine, whether or not the installer prompts you or not. Then be sure to launch another program before Logos (that DOESN'T use WPF for its rendering), then load Logos. You only seem to have to do this for the first time launching Logos, don't know why...

I have tried versions 0.7.6 and 0.9.1 (x32 and x64 versions as well on WniXP and Win7) have have seen the issues warned above on all versions.

When gdipp works properly though, it makes for much more comfortable reading for any program in Windows 7.
