Roger - Are you asking about upgrading from scholars to silver, or are you asking about the differences between silver KF & JG?
Scholar's Silver has the New American Commentaries and the Early Church Fathers which would make it worth the upgrade to me.
Personally would suggest upgrading to Scholar's Gold, which includes my favorite commentaries => UBS New Testament Handbook Series and => UBS Old Testament Handbook Series that are usable without needing original language mastery, while offering cross cultural insights of what's important to translate.

Ditto - the upgrade is cheaper than buying them separately. Also K&D Commentary and Holman NT Commentary. If you like Syntax Search then you also get Cascadia, which is the best of the NT ones.
I used my Christmas credit to update to Silver and am very happy. [:)]
