computer crashed now get message: "Logos Bible Software has stopped working"

My laptop ran out of battery power with Logos open. After restart, he little Windows window came up with "a problem caused the program to stop working properly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I have used the "remove programs" from teh control panel to de-install Logos 2x. I have reinstalled it 2x.

The first time I open after the reinstall, I het the sign in and licensing info and then I go straight to the error message again.

Some file must have gotten corrupted that is not removed in the de-install.

Any ideas?

We need to see some Diagnostic Logs to suggest a course of action. Follow the instructions from the first link to capture some and then upload them to this thread.

Kevin beat me to it. Welcome to the forums Keith. Additionally, you may try holding down the "Ctrl" key (if using windows) and work offline. I also recommend a good registry tool such as Advanced System Care, (again if you are using windows), to clean up what is left behind after uninstalling software on the windows platform.

I ran a registry cleaner and tried local but same problem. When I tried to run the logging software I got:

There are two log files in my folder (i had logging turned on when it crashed. Here is the first.

Next time use the 'paper clip' icon on the compose screen to insert a file, rather than copy/pasting the contents of the file here.

This issue is typically a malformed database, probably caused when L4 was writing to the database when the crash occurred. The solution is to rebuild the database, but it's unclear which database it is (at least it's unclear to me, maybe someone else can parse the data better).

If you enable diagnostic logging, as suggested above, we may be able to tell you which database is affected. This would save having to delete all your L4 databases, or reinstall L4.

There are two error events in the log, but neither seemed to have crashed Logos, as there are other events after the errors are finished being recorded. Is that your experience too?

The two errors have to do with the selftest.db and something on the homepage that isn't right (not sure what). The second error you may be able to get around by booting to a blank layout (hold the CTRL key down as you start Logos and choose that option). You could then try to load the home page, if you wanted and press F5 to refresh it (if you get that far).

The other error (if I diagnosed it correctly) would probably be fixed if you deleted the file.

If you open your log file in Notepad and search for "error" (no quotes necessary) and poke around just a little you'll see the full path to the file in question. Delete it when Logos is not running. Restarting Logos should rebuild it.

This is complicated with the first error being Sync related and it could occur on a number of databases. It would be safer to re-install again but delete the \Logos4 folder after uninstalling as the latter action does not remove the Documents folder which contains the corrupted databases i.e.

uninstall Logos4 from Control Panel > Programs and Features
delete C:\Users\kjentoft.RSI\AppData\Local\Logos4
reinstall Logos4
