Logos app affecting iCloud backup?
Has anyone else had problems with backing a device up to iCloud once lots of resources are downloaded to the Logos app?
I have been using iCloud to backup my iPad for several months without any difficulty. When I tried to manually backup over the weekend it took forever and in the end said that the backup was unable to complete. Deleting the previous backup, restarting the iPad and trying again didn't solve the problem.
The major change since my last successful backup is that I have downloaded all of my available library to the iPad. I therefore deleted the Logos app, and the iCloud backup went through successfully in just a few minutes.
It shouldn't be a space issue. Although iCloud is limited to 5 GB without paying, the backup was said to be only 1.3 GB. The Logos portion was listed as MB rather GB, so I don't think it was trying to backup all of the resources, although that would fit with the delay and failure.
I have a new iPhone so will set that up from the iPad backup before I start downloading Logos resources and trying the backup again. In the meantime I would be glad to hear any suggestions and from any other users who have had similar problems.
Jonathan - I haven't tried iCloud backup before. How long does it take? How fast is your internet?

When it finally did it this morning it took about 10 minutes, not unreasonable for 1 GB on my internet connection.
Yesterday it was taking perhaps up to an hour before saying it couldn't complete the backup.
Be sure you've updated to the latest version of iOS. There were some changes in 5.0.1 relating to storage and backup (this post provides more detail on what it fixed, see the update at the bottom).
I'm on 5.0.1.
Interesting article. Can anyone from Logos tell us where the resources are stored and whether they are marked to be backed up or not?
I don't know the answer to your question… sorry. I think that the article you referenced speaks of the problem Logos had when people migrated to iOS 5 & lost all of their downloaded resources. Logos made a change to their app, (hopefully!) preventing this from happening in the future.

I know there was a problem on Android recently, but I wasn't aware that people had lost resources from iOS5.
Jonathan - what happens if you change the device to back up to a PC or MAC instead?
I haven't tried this recently. It was my next step if deleting the Logos app didn't get things working again, but that does seem to have done the job.
I found iTunes an annoying piece of software, so I haven't reinstalled it since I got a new PC last year.
I'll get the iPhone set up first, then I'll try redownloading the Logos resources and try the backup again.
What was annoying about it to you?

1. It always wanted to install additional software when it updated.
2. It tried to update too frequently.
3. It put a shortcut on my desktop without asking: it's my desktop, to put there what I like, not what software writers want to put there.
4. Perhaps it is being a PC user, I found the whole user interface unfamiliar and difficult to use.
5. It wan't always clear to me what it was doing at any given time.
6. I didn't really see why I needed to have iTunes on my computer just to set up an iPad, when I didn't want to use the iTunes music interface (I have thousands to music files in WMA format, which it refuses to play).
Points 1 and 3 come very close to being the unforgivable sins of software writers. They are a sure way to get your software deleted from my computer unless it is very useful software.
