We're almost up to 50% at $50. Once we hit 60% that's kind of a momentum tipping point. Even if the $160 bidders refuse to lower their bids, if we could still encourage some more people to bid $50 we might make the $50 bump go up higher than the $160 bump which I think is critical to making this go into production. But lowering that daunting $160 bump would sure help.

I don't do a lot of these community pricing, but what kind of screwy system keeps a product from going into production until people lower their bid? Obviously this wasn't well thought out when they set up the algorithms that determine this stuff.

It's not a screwy algorithm, it's psychology.

If people lower their bid from $160 to the current lower peak of $50, the lower peak of $50 won't change at all (since the $160 bidders are already included in it) but the $160 peak will go down, so actually in the short term, it will seem like we're making it farther away from going into production. But many of us believe it will actually have the psychological effect of bringing in more bidders at $50 who would otherwise not have given this collection a second look because at $160 it seems way overpriced to them. Then finally, it will be able to gain enough momentum to go over the top. That's the theory anyway, but it hasn't been working because those $160 bidders are so set in their ways. They really, really want this collection and are willing to pay that much for it. They fear that if they lower their bid they might miss out on it. (That's actually not true anyway; if it does somehow manage to go over 100% at a higher price than what you bid, you get an email letting you know that so you can raise your bid back up and not miss out on it.) They don't realize that they might actually be causing a much longer delay for everyone, and it might never make it over the top at that price.

We will get many more new bidders when $50 becomes the price likely to succeed. Many people won't bid now because the targeted price is more than they wish to pay.

The difference between the $50 bump and the $160 bump is less than 10% now! All we need is just a few more $160 bidders to lower their bids to $50 and the psychological effect will kick in. Suddenly we'll be able to start pushing this set as going for $50 and more people will jump on it. Please, you $160 folks. Just try it. Take the risk. You won't regret it.

Thanks, Andrew! Just a couple more $160 bidders needed to drop their bids. There's even someone sitting there at $170.

This pop-up message is deceptive and unfortunately helps perpetuate the problem. For quite a while I kept moving my bid back and forth between $160 and $50 because this pop-up message made me afraid I might miss out on this collection. But you won't. If you read your email every day, you will see the email message that comes once it has gone over the top, and you will have a chance to bump your bid back up if necessary. But if we keep this up, we'll make it go over the top at $50 instead of $160, so you won't have to even bother changing your bid. I finally became convinced of this and am sitting tight at $50 now.

Join the fun if you haven't bid yet. This one is going to go for the roughly the same price as all the other classic commentaries collections have been going for, in the $40-50 range. Pile on and help make it so!

I actually had to hover over the red bar where my bid was located in order for that warning to appear.

I'm not sure how your bid could have become $31, but maybe they adjusted the scale at some point and that was what you had bid on the old scale. Anyway, you can rebid at any time to be sure you've bid something that will get counted. I'd suggest a bid of $50. It's quite possible the final price will end up lower, and you'd get it for the lower price if that were the case.

The slope is pretty constant from 110 up to 160, so it might just be a case of all the 160 bidders being counted in those amounts from 110 to 150 and it taking more of them to make up the total so the height of the graph being incrementally lower at each point.

But the graph levels out briefly at $100, so I'm guessing there are some extra bidders at exactly $100 who also should lower their bids to $50. However the $160 holdouts are still the bigger issue.

We really need EVERY ONE who has bid HIGHER then 50 to change their bids to 50 dollars. That is where we need the peak! Look at the line: 140, 150, 160 are still higher then the 50 dollar bids. If everyone that has bid higher then 50 would lower their bid to 50 TODAY, then maybe tomorrow we would have a new peak at 50 and more people would be prone to bid.[:O] I am at 50 and feel like others in this tread that when all is said and done, it will go for around 40 dollars. I do understand the point here in that psychologically people seem to only bid if they think the bid will succeed but people who bid $160 becuase that is what they would pay are doing exactly the right thing, it is those who do not bid what they would pay who are not "getting" CP.

People should be motivated to bid when they want a resource but have not bid, they should not be asked to reduce bids below the price they would be willing to pay.

It does strike me that people are willing to bid $100's on a pre pub for 3 volumes then all of a sudden they think that $25 would be a reasonable bid to finance a 35 volume CP project, we need people to understand CP and bid on resources they would like at a price they would pay rather than seek to marginally manipulate price profiles.

By way of comparison, the 24 volumes in Luke => http://www.logos.com/product/10288/classic-commentaries-and-studies-on-luke have 9,169 pages while the 22 volumes for Isaiah => http://www.logos.com/product/16012/classic-commentaries-and-studies-on-isaiah have 6,732 pages.

Luke has enough bidders to cover 100 % of estimated production cost at $ 50 per bidder (nearly enough for $ 40); closes Friday 24 Feb.

For Revelation, concur $ 50 would be a terrific bargain price (a discount of 95 %). The retail price for buying hardcopy editions of the 27 Revelation volumes is $ 934.95 that is substantially higher than Luke's $ 562.10 ($ 50 is a discount of 91 %) and Isaiah's $ 679.95 ($ 30 is a discount of 96 %).

Bidding $ 90 for Revelation set has a discount over 90 %.

This is Community Pricing. This is not about paying a fair price or even what the product is intrinsically worth. It is about getting a product into production so that everyone can have the opportunity to get it whether at the CP or the price after production. Logos sets a cost to produce the product and we as a community get together and contribute to this cost. Now Logos gives us a big benefit, in that we will all pay the same. They could charge $160 to those willing to pay $160 and $50 to those willing to pay $50. But whether it takes 200 people at $160 or 640 people at $50, the result is the same: the product gets produced. A stalemate results in no product.

So there is room for cooperating in getting to a price that enough people can agree on to get the product into production. The important thing is getting to read the books and having a unity of purpose. No one is being cheated by having a lower price. Logos gets exactly what it needs to produce the product and then can make a profit on the continuing sales.

A drop from $160 to $50 seems to me to be more than a marginal difference! If people bid less than the eventual price it goes for, we get an email beforehand that tells us whether or not our bid will succeed. So there's time to adjust the bid upwards if necessary.

My guess is that we need about 6 more bidders at $160 to change to $50 or 12 new $50 bidders to make $50 the projected price on Revelation. Each $160 bidder that changes to $50 is worth 2 new $50 bidders. Let's get this stalemated Revelation product moving. Then after $50 is the projected price we will need another 180 or so more $50 bidders.
