Bible ref. hyperlinks in non-Bible resources - quirky behavior

I wasn't real sure how to title this post. My iPad version of Logos is behaving differently from my iPhone 4s.

Here is what causes the anomaly. This occurs in offline and online mode.

Also, this occurs only in split window mode.

I have my preferred Bible open in one window and any non-Bible resource, like ESVSB and I touch a Bible ref. in that resource, sometimes a window pops up with the Bible ref., sometimes not. But, the real weirdness comes when the Bible ref. pops up. When I touch the 'jump to reference' link in the bottom right corner, the window disappears as it should and the Bible tries to go to the Bible ref. (I say try meaning the spinner appears and goes away). Then, the ref. lookup completes and it jumps to the ref. and stays there for about two seconds then jumps BACK to where it was previously.

I have turned of the iPad and restarted; I have tried unloading Logos for the multi taks bar and restarting it. I really do not want to re-install Logos because I don't really want to have to DL my books again. But, if that is the fix I will do it.

So, what do you think?

    Hi Bill,

Please don't re-install Logos (yet) - typically issues like this will not be fixed by a reinstall and I don't want you to have to download resources again.  Because this happens in online and offline mode, I'm assuming the resources in question are all downloaded on both your iPad and iPhone 4S - is that correct?

If so, can you give me more information?

    - What version of Logos are you running on your iPad (and is it the same on the iPhone 4S)?
    - What version of iOS is running on your iPad vs. your iPhone 4S?

    Thanks!

I can verify the same behavior on my iPad.  I am using Version 2.0.2.  The behavior is caused because the two resources are linked.  If you turn off the linked panels, the behavior stops.  It is syncing back to the reference location in the study Bible. If you set up a Bible dictionary and a Bible, this behavior does not occur because the dictionary does not have a Bible index.

My guess is that we will see this tug of war between linked resources and also between our desktop and the mobile apps. Today I erased a highlight on my desktop only to have it sync with my iPad and then reappear.  I would guess this is to be expected.  We often want our linked commentary and Bible on our desktop to behave so that the commentary follows the Bible, only to have it work in reverse.

iPad and iPhone using Logos 2.0.2

iOS 5.0.1 on both iPad and iPhone

To clarify, when I say split window mode, I mean the linked panels mode. It works on the iPhone, it does not on the iPad.

This feature used to work correctly in the past.

Oh, yes, the resources are downloaded to the iPhone and iPad...

On your iPhone with the two resources linked, when you tap "jump to reference", and the Bible goes to that reference, does the study Bible stay where it was or does it also jump to the new reference?  (I don't have an iPhone so I can't test this)  If the study Bible stays at the original reference and doesn't jump to the new reference also, then it really isn't linked and isn't working correctly. So, if this is true I would say your iPad is the one working correctly and the iPhone isn't.  The reason it used to work is that syncing wasn't working.  On the other hand, on the desktop, with resources linked this way, after the Bible goes to the new reference, the study Bible follows.  So I suppose this is way we want it to work.

Edit: Until they work this issue out you can always tap the arrow in the upper left of your Bible to go back to the reference you wanted to look at.

The iPhone study Bible jumps AFTER the Bible does... But, the Bible actually jumps and stays... On the iPad, it jumps to the reference and stays for about 2 seonds and then jumps back. The study Bible does not move...

    Hello Bill,

I am unable to reproduce this issue.  When the panels are linked with ESV and ESVSB both open, all references open appropriately on the ESV side and the ESVSB panel updates appropriately.  I wish I could be of more help.

So, do I need to try un-installing Logos app and re-download the resources?

Bill, I tried changing my preferred Bible on my desktop and on my iPad.  I also tried different combinations on books and I still get the same behavior as you do.  Perhaps someone will solve this mystery. In the process of all this, turning my iPad off and on etc. there was once or twice it actually worked correctly and then the next time it was back to not changing the reference.

OK, and one more thing, this only happens when the panels are linked. If not linked, it works...

    Hi Bill,

Okay, that helps - I can reproduce the issue and wrote a case up for our Development Department.  Thanks!
