Sync 2
What is the Sync 2 feature implemented in the 4.5a update supposed to emable. Did I misunderstand; I thought the reading plans on your desktop would now be synced to your iPad. Is this incorrect?

Reading plans have indeed moved over to sync v2 in the 4.5a update. To function correctly, the mobile app needs to be updated to 2.1, which is currently in private beta (2.1b3). I do not know when it will be released publicly. Sorry. [:(]
I can tell you that the sync is working well (for me at least). I am able to successfully do my daily readings on my iPad/iPhone.

Should ratings and tags be syncing in iOS, or is that pending the next update?
A thread in the PC beta forum suggests that these are now on sync v2.

According to the release notes of 4.5a, ratings & tags have migrated to sync v2. There are some who claim that tags are syncing to the beta version of the mobile app, but this is not my experience. I don't know if another beta will bring about this change in this cycle or not.

I've only just started to use the ratings; I think they will make it easier to find things now that I am using the iPad app more. At the moment they are not showing up on the iPad. Comment from someone at Logos would be useful.
I'm not from Logos, but perhaps the following explanation will help. Because of syncing problems, Logos had to entirely rewrite the syncing process. The rewrite had to be done in three places: both desktop apps, all mobile apps, and on Logos' own servers. The rewrite also had to be done for every type of document/preference, of which there are a lot (e.g. tags, ratings, favorites, notes, clippings, personal book data, etc.).
The first tranche of these were moved over to version 2 with Logos 4.5. When a user upgraded to Logos 4.5, these items were moved from the Sync1 server to the Sync2 server. As a consequence, these items no longer synced with mobile software, which was still using Sync1, until users also updated to the latest version of the mobile app, which was released a few days later.
The release of 4.5a means the second tranche have now been moved over to Sync2. However, the mobile app has not yet been updated to support Sync2 for these preferences/documents, which means that if you're using Logos 4.5a, ratings will not sync to the mobile app, until the mobile app is updated. My guess is that the updated mobile app will be weeks, rather than days or months.

My question is, if the problem is the mobile app now then why doesn't it sync with Biblia?

Gord - First, welcome to the forums!
My question is, if the problem is the mobile app now then why doesn't it sync with Biblia?
Let me answer your question two ways:
- "The Problem" was not the mobile app, but rather the sync infrastructure used by Logos. According to Logos, it worked well, but the exponential growth of users & data clogged up the system. In response, they began a long process of changing the sync infrastructure for both mobile & desktop apps. The desktop app had two updates (4.5 & 4.5a) switching many features (most notably notes/highlights & reading plans) over to sync v2. Similarly the mobile app needs two updates. The first is already out (2.0.2) and the second is now in "release candidate" stage (2.1). This release could come at any time.
- Biblia.com does not have reading plans, notes, etc, therefore there is nothing to sync. My guess is that this will come at some point, but not yet. Spending a lot of time working on biblia.com probably doesn't make sense for most users (Their primary computers have Logos installed [therefore no need for biblia.com] and they prefer to use the mobile app since it has some offline capabilities and has more features than biblia).

Thanks for the response but there seems to be a rub. I understand the problem is the sync and I have been waiting and reading about it for a little while. IOS apps and Biblia (yes there are reading plans on Biblia) have been syncing but with no means of creating a new plan. My understanding was that the update to Logos 4.5 was supposed to correct the reading plan sync issue.
I can appreciate "exponential growth of users and data" but when you haven't sorted out basic functionality of the existing product, why would you go and add more traffic with additional products such as Vyrso and Proclaim?

You are right. My mistake. I was thinking more of notes/highlights ,etc, but did not know that reading plans were there.

- There is a means to create new reading plans. This is done from within Logos 4.
- The iOS apps have not been syncing for most users. If it has been syncing for you, consider yourself lucky. [:)]
- I know that most forum users do not read the forums as often as I do. I can tell you, however, that Logos constantly said that this would be a two step process. 4.5 (with iOS 2.0) would bring about the syncing of notes & highlights; a future but soon update (4.5a & 2.1) would bring about reading plan sync updates.
- I can also tell you that 2.1 is in the RC2 stage. I have no idea when it will go live. It could be weeks (unlikely) or days.

There are some vocal forum members who strongly agree with you, although I do not. Bob has publicly stated that other projects do not take away from development of L4. However, he has also stated that Logos continues to be looking to hire new programmers. It seems that they have a difficulty in getting people to want to move to Bellingham. Perhaps in response to this, they have opened a second location in AZ. I can tell you that this (the move to AZ) has caused some hiccups in the short term, but if it encourages more developers to come aboard, will be beneficial in the long term.
