Community Pricing Gift

I want to give my Pastor the Cambridge Greek NT set. I talked to four
different people at Logos and with one accord they tell me it can't be
done. Why can't I bid on it using my pastor's sign in info and put money
into his account to pay for it? The price has been established and we have two days to do this. I thought Logos was a high tech company
. . . but they can't do this! Help!

Since we know its 28 dollars....just hand him 28 dollars and tell him to sign up for the prepub

money is not taken till books ship...

This is a nice gift......just may come in 2 years or may come in 16 months....We don't really know

I don't know the specific reasons for the advice you were given but I would expect it is related to the fact that the Logos licence is on a per-user basis and there is currently no mechanism for someone to "gift" a product to someone else. This is something which Logos is working on but I haven't seen any timelines for it being available.

Can you give the money to your pastor and get him to place the order?

Because the current way in which Logos handles payments and bids do not support this

As I said they are working on gifting mechanisms but they are not currently available.

Actually you can do that. Did you speak to sales? I was told on multiple prior occasions you can load credit onto another users account.

If you refrain from mentioning Community Pricing at all, and simply tell sales that you want to gift your pastor with $28 on his Logos account, you'll likely meet with less resistance. I, and others, have had money credited to our accounts at Logos for a very long time.

Even if you gift a certain dollar amount in credit, however, I don't believe it can be used for CP or Prepub. So he'll buy the item for $28 and then he'll still have $28 credit sitting in his account.

You are correct, but if budgeting and cash flow are very tight or very important, it could be a potential problem. Plus, it may put him in a position where he's got $28 but everything else he wants to buy is over $100. If he can't afford $70+ dollars for a while, then he either has to "settle" for something he otherwise wouldn't have bought or let the credit sit there and taunt him. [:)]

They tell me I can't do this. I tried. For a high tech company their sales department seems to be decidedly low tech.

It is due to the way the Pre-Pub program is structured. What was initially a good thing ("You do not pay for it until it ships." has now become a bear-trap that prevents us from pre-paying or gifting, or using Logos Christmas Credit to pay for them. The system is automated to charge for the Pre-Pub only when it ships. The charge must run through the system to activate the release of the download. Once a title ships, the Pre-Pub price disappears. The good deal goes hand in hand with a simultaneous credit card purchase transaction. This could be changed with a lot of effort.. Until that happens, you have a few creative ,but undesirable options:

You can have your Pastor place an order in his accout using your credit card number. I wouldn't do this unless you know your pastor or Logos won't go charging other resources to the card.
You can hand the cash to your Pastor and tell him it is for that resource. Just do not ask him how he likes the resource when it finally ships. He just may have cancelled it because he used the cash for gas money in a pinch.
You could create another Logos account for yourself and get duplicates of Pre-Pubs & CP resources, the free Vyrso books, Logos Free-Book-Of-The-Month, Twitter Daily Deals and the upcoming March Madness sales, etc. Then you can transfer all the licenses to your Pastor every 6 months for a one-time fee.

That is weird. My wife has a separate Logos account and license. Her account has my credit card as the default. Maybe you have to be married to cross credit cards.

Good try, but that gift card would have to be set as his default card at the time the item was ready to launch, whenever that is. There is no way to tie the Community Pricing item I want to give to him to that card.

In fact, in the future, if I believe a community pricing product is valuable I might consider putting in several bids to give to friends in order to help the process along! The Cambridge Greek NT is just that sort of product. Jay Adams says it has been his first "go to" reference work for exegesis since his seminary days.

2) Buy the gift card.

3) Once the CP has closed and become a prepub (Friday noon EST), the pastor can go to his order page, click edit, and associate that particular item with that particular card. (It doesn't "have to be set as his default card at the time the item was ready to launch". You can have several cards on one account and choose exactly what card to use for what resource.)

Donn is very simple dude, tell your pastor to bid $28 bucks on the set you want to give him and tell him you will give him or are giving him the money specifically for that. As a receipt, tell him you want to see the resource whenever it downloads to his computer. Have him use his own credit/debit card and just give him the money IS THAT SIMPLE. Don't even bother to call Logos for something this simple - You're making it harder than it really is and you are wasting your time and Logos' time man.

By the way, does your "pastor" even have Logos? I don't remember you mentioning that. Anyway, do what others and I are telling you and save yourself some hassle dude.

In the old days you could place multiple orders for the same Pre-Pub. Is it still possible to do from one account?

The gift card idea will only work once a Community Pricing title has become a Pre-Pub. And as mentioned, you can edit the payment method for any Pre-Pub right up until a few days before shipping. Do not think just because you can make a change to an order that those changes will be what the system follows. In January I cancelled a few Pre-Pubs two weeks in advance and still got charged and received the downloads. It was ok with me because they were cheap and good stuff. It might have been a problem if the resources.were $600 x 3.
