What is a Livius Index?

Hi,

I'm starting to learn about the power of indexes and I came across the fact that the Perseus collection is indexed by something called Livius. Could someone please tell me what this is and how it works?

Hi Greg, not the entire Perseus collection, but only the works by Livius (that is, Titus Livius, aka Livy) are indexed by the Livius index, which is just the reference addresses for accessing sections within his works. For example: Liv., Hist. of Rome 9 3.1 is the "address" of his History of Rome, Book IX, chapter 3, paragraph 1. Kind of like the Bible Index for referencing verses in the Bible.

You'll find that other works in the Perseus collection have their own indexes. Look in the Info panel of an open resource (by clicking on the circled 'i' icon) and you'll see the Index type listed there.
