Go honour St Patrick with a bid on St. Patrick, Apostle of Ireland (2 vols.)
Wow, someone must have been up late to post that one! It's still only 4AM Bellingham time. Or else they had it automatically triggered after midnight on March 17.
The twitter post is dated about 18 hours before I went to bed -- but it sure didn't show up then.
For anyone who can't wait on the CP there's always Saint Patrick on Vyrso. I'm still hoping they'll give us that one for free today. [:D]
Now there's a blog post to go with the announcement: Set Your Price on St. Patrick, Apostle of Ireland.
I did yesterday. [:)]
I didn't know we had so much information on this person....and I thought he was a made-up figure, like leprechauns. [;)]
I didn't know we had so much information on this person....and I thought he was a made-up figure, like leprechauns.
I knew he was real, but I didn't know he'd written anything, except St. Patrick's Breastplate:
Christ be with me, Christ within me,Christ behind me, Christ before me,Christ beside me, Christ to win me,Christ to comfort and restore me.Christ beneath me, Christ above me,Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,Christ in hearts of all that love me,Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

Well, unfortunately there seems to be a lot of opinions on that information (my bold):
Logos' product page:
"St. Patrick was one of the great missionaries of Europe and lived a truly extraordinary life. He was a Romano-Briton Christian, born in the mid-fourth century during the decline of Roman rule in the Britain. At the age of 16 he was captured by pirates and sold into slavery in Ireland. During his six years in captivity he learned the Irish language and culture. After escaping back to Britain, Patrick entered the Church and was ordained a bishop. With true love for the people of Ireland, Patrick returned to the place of his captivity as a missionary. He preaching the Gospel throughout Ireland for the last fifteen years or so of his life and died around 440."
Wikipedia:
"According to the latest reconstruction of the old Irish annals, Patrick died in AD 461 on March 17, a date accepted by some modern historians.[38] Prior to the 1940s it was believed without doubt that he died in 420 and thus had lived in the first half of the 5th century.[39] A lecture entitled "The Two Patricks", published in 1942 by T. F. O'Rahilly, caused enormous controversy by proposing that there had been two "Patricks", Palladius and Patrick, and that what we now know of St. Patrick was in fact in part a conscious effort to blend the two into onehagiographic personality. Decades of contention eventually ended with most historians[who?]now asserting that Patrick was indeed most likely to have been active in the latter half of the fifth century.[40]
While Patrick's own writings contain no dates, they do contain information which can be used to date them. Patrick's quotations from the Acts of the Apostles follow the Vulgate, strongly suggesting that his ecclesiastical conversion did not take place before the early 5th century. Patrick also refers to the Franks as being pagans. Their conversion is dated to the period 496–508.[41]
There is plentiful evidence for a medieval tradition that Patrick had died in 493."
like leprechauns
Reading Logos' forums is good for one's vocabulary [:D]. Weird word.
According to St. Patrick's Day lore, Patrick used the three leaves of a shamrock to explain the Christian holy trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.[<:o)]

Peace, Rosie! ....... and ...Joy in the Lord!
I know you like good music from a number of your posts, Rosie. And especially singing in harmony, eh?
In many Christian Hymnals the words you have shared are part of a larger hymn attributed to St. Patrick.
So, here's a musical treat for you: From St. Patrick! *smile* http://www.oremus.org/hymnal/i/i024.html (to listen to the melody -- words are there also.)
This hymn is in our MANY Christian hymnals of various denominations.
Ephesians 5:18-20
I bind unto myself todaythe strong Name of the Trinity,by invocation of the same, the Three in One, and One in Three.
I bind this day to me for ever,by power of faith, Christ's Incarnation;his baptism in Jordan river;his death on cross for my salvation;his bursting from the spicèd tomb;his riding up the heavenly way;his coming at the day of doom:I bind unto myself today.I bind unto myself the powerof the great love of cherubim;the sweet "Well done" in judgment hour;the service of the seraphim;confessors' faith, apostles' word, the patriarchs' prayers, the prophets' scrolls;all good deeds done unto the Lord, and purity of virgin souls.I bind unto myself today the virtues of the starlit heaventhe glorious sun's life-giving ray,the whiteness of the moon at even, the flashing of the lightning free, the whirling wind's tempestuous shocks, the stable earth, the deep salt sea, around the old eternal rocks.I bind unto myself todaythe power of God to hold and lead, his eye to watch, his might to stay, his ear to hearken, to my need;the wisdom of my God to teach, his hand to guide, his shield to ward;the word of God to give me speech, his heavenly host to be my guard.
Christ be with me, Christ within me,Christ behind me,Christ before me,Christ beside me,Christ to win me,Christ to comfort and restore me.Christ beneath me,Christ above me,Christ in quiet,Christ in danger,Christ in hearts ofall that love me,Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
I bind unto myself todaythe strong Name of the Trinity,by invocation of the same, the Three in One, and One in Three.Of whom all nature hath creation, eternal Father, Spirit, Word:praise to the Lord of my salvation, salvation is of Christ the Lord.
and I thought he was a made-up figure, like leprechauns.
I think you had the Irish St. Patrick confused with the Finnish St. Urho whom we celebrated yesterday. http://www.sainturho.com/ They are easier to keep apart if you have a Finnish grandmother and an Irish great grandmother.[:D]
I guess many of you did, for it's now over the line. Time for the rest of you to bring the price down. [;)]
Peace to all! and Always Joy in the Lord! *smile*
I think there's a real possibility that we could get this 2 volume work for as little as $4.00 -- just a few more bids, eh?
