BUG: Alias/full name not behaving as expected
I have an alias set up in my profile since I post on the forums which are public and searchable/discoverable from search engines. I have my Full Name privacy setting in my FaithLife profile set to "Open". The behavior I would expect would be for my name and not my alias to show up for group members when I post to a group...but I'm still showing up as Kknight78 in group postings.

The system uses your alias to describe you. Your Full Name is shown on your profile to people you allow, via privacy settings. (When you ask to join a moderated group, we'll show your real name to the moderator, so moderators know who is joining.)

Is there any way the system can be modified to behave as I describe? Generally speaking, the people that I interact with on FaithLife are going to be people that I know "in real life"...people from church, Sunday school, small groups, etc...they aren't people that I would use an alias with. But if I remove my alias, then my name is also available on the publicly open Logos forums.
EDIT: Or perhaps a setting could offer the choice based on group type? For example, in your profile privacy settings, there could be drop-downs/sliders to determine whether you are described by your alias or by your full name in the case of open groups, in the case of closed groups, and in the case of secret groups.

Then if someone you know is a member of both an open and closed group with you, they'll see posts from you with two different names.
And what do we do when you reply to a post that can be seen by people you do and don't know?
Now we understand why Facebook only supports real names. :-)
Our use of "Alias" as a label was a mistake, and we'll be revising it soon; Faithlife isn't really intended to be a system full of unknowable handles like "BurgerFan24". It's designed to support real communities, and in real communities people use real names. The distinction of "Full Name" and "Alias" came over from our support for forums, and users' desire to keep "Real Name" (used in Logos.com accounts for billing purposes, and often needing to match what's on a credit card) separate from the name they go by.
We're moving to "Real Name" and "Display Name". If you really, really want, you'll be able to make your Display Name "BurgerFan24", but that's not encouraged. We're intending things more like Real Name "John Smith" -> Display Name "Prof. J. Smith" or "John Q. Public, Jr." and "John Public" or "Pastor John".
(And there was some thought that for various reasons some people might need to obscure their real name, if they are in hostile environments and don't want to be discovered at Faithlife via Google searches of their full name. But we can't guarantee to never show a real name; people could find ways to "scam" their way into a group with you and find your identity. We'd only be protecting against being very "google-able", but that might still help some people.)

I have no problem with this...I agree completely...

THIS is where the problem lies. Since both the forums and FaithLife share profile information from Logos.com, there is currently no way for me to use an alias on the (public) forum, but a "normal" name on the FaithLife community. I understand your explanation for not having sliders/dropdowns for different types of FaithLife groups, but would it be possible to split the current Alias/Display Name into two separate fields? So we would have Full Name (for credit card purposes, etc as you explained), Forum Alias (for use on the public Logos Forum), and FaithLife Display Name (for the real name that I go by in my communities [both real and virtual]).
I just think the current method causes problems as it makes me choose between using my real name on the forums or using Kknight78 in FaithLife...neither option is ideal/desirable.
And by the way, thanks for taking the time to discuss this with me! [:)]

Kknight78, maybe ‘keep the nick – change the pic’,

Kknight78, there may be a solution.
Altho, this means that you will have no resource association nor will there be any Logos License to use. You can create an account by way of the faithlife.com front page.
It will create a Logos account under the new nick and there you can use a false pic as well. Since you are seeking to maintain a virtual incognito personality, this would do it, the only ones who would know your true identity would be those in your virtual secret/private community that you wish to establish. If you want to further this, you could log into the Logos.com and finish the profile with a fictional name etc., etc., again there would only be the account under this incognito personality - no license or resources.....
I wonder Bob's words in this regards...

Yes, that is a workaround, but I would not call it a solution. If I'm told that's the only way to do it, then I will make it work, but it isn't very convenient having to log into one account for the forums, then having to log out and then into another account to manage my pre-pubs, orders, etc, and then have to switch back again. This can and should be made to work seamlessly with one account across all Logos products just as they intend, but with the ability to manage my identity properly. I will make it work no matter what because I love what FaithLife offers (even just what's been revealed so far!), but I do hope that this small item can be resolved. [:)]

I must admit I didn't really grasp the significance of this until I just noticed my forum name has changed - I was quite happy to use my full name in the forum which is how I originally registered here, but was in two minds as to what to use on Faithlife. Eventually I decided to use just my first name (when I was born we called it a Christian name [:D] ) but didn't expect it to change my name here in the forum. Or to show my dog's photo.

*bump* I changed "Display Name" to my name and it didn't change correspondingly here on the forum for about a week, so I thought that maybe something had changed, but I notice now that my forum display name is now my name instead of my "alias" as it was before [:(] I still think there needs to be two fields...a forum "alias" and a FaithLife "display name"...
