Logos stopped working and won't re-install

It was working fine on my Windows XP 32-bit system until just a couple of days ago. Now, when I launch the program, it says that a temporary file in "C:\DOCUME~1\Users\OWNER\LOCAL~!\Temp" cannot be initialized or written.

I have tried to re-install the software from CD #1, but get the same error message. I've checked the folder shown in the error message and everything looks normal. I can write files to the directory, delete, etc. I've tried changing the software's compatibility mode, running as administrator, etc. but nothing works.

I'm not sure what happened, but how do I get it back?

Russell, I hope you get an answer because it sounds similar to what happened to me! I have Nelson's eBible Expanded version (2007) and it was working fine. Then it just stopped about a week ago.

When I would try to open it, it got hung up and I had some kind of icon and message at the lower right corner of the screen. The program just froze. I didn't write down the info because I just figured that I could uninstall and reinstall. Not this time!

I've followed the directions posted here http://www.logos.com/ArticleViewer/316 , and everything seems to install. But there's no option to set up a desktop icon or start menu icon, and when I click on LibSys.exe file (Systems folder) it doesn't open the program.

Russell, you may want to check out the link above because in the past, it has worked for me and hopefully it will help you.

Anybody have any other ideas on how to resolve this?

Curious about Libronix version and Internet Explorer (IE) version ? Also wonder about restarting computer ?

My current running L3 uses the LDLS.exe for the startup file[folder: Libronix DLS/System/...], which also is the call for the Desktop Icon, WinXP 32 SP3, I did not upgrade the IE so I am using 8 w/no problems. If the referred wiki file does not work then I would call the techy people at HQ.

You may need the ccleaner from periform.com - free version - it will check the regedit for hot_key issues.....

-BUT-

If there is no real need to have it running[pbb's, notes, etc.] and you have L4 and everything is copestatic then I would just leave it as is, unless you need it.

Well, I decided to download the Logos 4 core engine. That seemed to resolve the issue so I'm a happy camper once again. I'll definitely keep the Logos Wiki in mind for any future issues; that's one I hadn't seen before.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions. I'm going to try the logging tonight and see where that gets me.

My problem seems related to a issue referred to as the "16 bit windows subsystem error". This may have been caused by a virus that has long-since been removed. After some google-ing, I found a page where people were having the same problem and found a fix for it:

There is also a program called xp_fix to make change for you. It can be seen on this thread:

I think the above links describe the problem that I'm having, and I think I'm on the right track, but I don't have it working yet

Also, I think that some of the other problems I've seen on this forum (like Judy's) are not the same issue that I'm having.

Last discussion item could be possible (system wide TEMP directory access). Wonder about TEMP and TMP environment variable settings ?

On Windows 7, personally run Libronix 3 using elevated privileges (as administrator) since some items do not work for my standard user account.
