Can't download all resources in free account

My son just got an iPad, and I thought I would get him started with the free Logos app. He registered so as to take advantage of the free books that Logos offers along with the app. After firing up the app, the Library shows all the 60+ resources he now has available. I suggested that he download his favorite Bible (in this case NASB) so he has it available even when he doesn't have WiFi access. However, when he attempted to download it, the download button is greyed out (not green), and a message is displayed saying something about that resource isn't included in his account.----But he DOES have access to the resource when he's connected to WiFi.

We tried a couple other resources. Some can be downloaded; some can't.

Is this the way this free account is supposed to work? If so, I must say that I don't understand why Logos is willing to give online access to this version of the Bible, but not allow offline access. It's not like he can somehow access the data file on the iPad and sell it to someone else. I suppose it's all part of that Incredible marketing machine. Give it to them free--well, almost give it to them--and if they really want it bad enough (i.e., offline access), they'll cough up the $10 (or whatever) to get offline access to that resource.

Or maybe I'm just missing a setting in the app, and he really does have full access to the "free" resources? Anyone know?

Paul Johnson

I don't know firsthand, but from reading the forums (this has come up a number of times), the consistent message seems to be that the free trial resources can't be downloaded. There are a number of resources that Logos sells for free plus there are sometimes other publishers like Crossway that give some away to get a decent package for free (see http://wiki.logos.com/Free_Logos_Books ) - it may be that NASB is not among them and you really have to invest the $10

I believe so. I thought you had to buy a base package to allow you to download resources for offline use in the iOS app.

Which resources can be downloaded? Are they free on Logos.com? There are a few on Logos.com as well as free book offers on Vyrso.com that will be able to be downloaded through the Logos app. Having the iPhone app, I can only download the stuff I have purchased. I think that's the way it's supposed to work. I don't think the publishers would allow their products to be downloaded by those that haven't purchased it. Having it available while online is similar to reading the Bible online through a browser at Biblegateway, or Logo's own Biblia.com.

Without buying a base package you can buy the NAS collection that includes the NASB for $30.

Paul - In all likelihood, the app is behaving as expected. Out of curiosity… which app & version is he using? There is a known bug in the 2.1 release which prevents users from downloading some files.

Logos has NASB for $ 10 => The New American Standard Bible, 1995 Update along with many Bibles => http://www.logos.com/products/search?Resource+Type=Bibles&start=0&sort=pricelo&pageSize=45 including Amplified Bible for $ 10 that is included in NAS collection
