NIV Application Commentaries Will Not Download

The following NIV Application Commentaries will not download to my iPad (the new iPad):

 

Ezekiel, Jonah...Zephaniah, Acts, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians and Galatians. The other NIV Application Commentaries have all downloaded as expected.

    This pops up every now and then. Sometimes, finding better wifi will fix it. Also, up to this point it seems hit and miss. Those resources may download for someone else. I don't have them or I'd try. Have you checked the Vyrso app to see if they download? It may be that the bug was fixed in the 2.1 build.

    They download without a problem in Vyrso. The NIV '84 also downloads fine in Vyrso, but not the Logos app. The WiFi pipe I use provides roughly 20 Mbps+

    This suggests to me that a bug might have been fixed in the 2.1 build. If it persists after the 2.1 release, make sure to bring it up again.

    There may be something more here than a 2.0 bug which will be fixed in 2.1

    I am running 2.0.2 and have the NIVAC commentaries downloaded.

    To test, I have just removed NIVAC on Jonah, Nahum, Habbakuk and Zephaniah from my iPad (using the Logos app) and redownloaded it without any problem.

    So there may be an intermittent issue which 2.1 will fix or there could be some other issue here - but I'm afraid I don't know what that could be!

    There were some beta testers had some similar problems. There were intermittent download problems that were hit or miss. I have not heard anything about it since the beta release of 2.1. I did not hear definitively that it was a bug that was fixed.

    I have the same thing with the Ancient Christian Commentaries and a few other volumes; some (from the same series) download and some don't. Contacted Customer Support but to no avail. The first email tech replied twice and then handed me off to another whose final instructions were that I should manually download them for Libronix (and included instructions on how to do it!) even though my first post and subsequent posts all made it clear that the problem was with my iPhone app, not with my PC. When I replied with that info, my tech guy bailed. It's been six days since I've heard anything further. I leave for Africa in 1.5 weeks. Really wanted to be able to use my resources when I teach.

    I love Logos but I need a tech who'll go steady with me and not dump me when our relationship hits a rough patch. :)

    PS These resources are not available in Vyrso. I have the Portfolio edition of Logos.

    I have had resources that do not download as well. Frankly I have given up on the iPad version of Logos, it is so unreliable between that and syncing issues, and a UI that's quite a bit worse in user friendliness than other iOS apps.

    But did you try downloading them to the Vyrso app? 

    Also, how big of a deal would it be to uninstall the app and start over?

    Well, Alabama24, I have already done that very thing.

    Here's the first reply (name and email redacted to protect the Customer Support Techie and myself). (And, yes, I tried to search for all of the books using "IVP" and, next, "Ancient" as the search term but they don't even show up. Only 7 resources show up when searching for "Ancient" in Vyrso whereas, in my Logos app, 1540 volumes are listed when searching for "Ancient." Not all of these are properly downloading at this time but at least they are showing up as my resources.)

    Anyway, here we go...

    I want to make sure I understand clearly, so pardon me while I give you a laundry list of questions:

     

    1. How many resources show up in the Vyrso library unfiltered in any way? Can you give a screen shot? *
    2. How many resources show up in the Logos library unfiltered in any way? Can you give a screen shot? *
    3. Do you have more than one Logos account / email address?
    4. What sort of internet connection are you using?
    5. Have you tried using alternative internet connections?
    6. How much space is left on your iPad?
    7. How large is the Logos app on your device?

    * How to give a screen shot in iOS:

    1. Press and hold both buttons for several seconds. The screen will flash and the iPad will make a "shutter" sound.
    2. Your screen shot will be in the iOS "Photo" app at the bottom (since it is newest).
    3. Email the picture to yourself
    4. Save the picture somewhere convenient (i.e. the desktop)
    5. Post the picture to the forum using the paper clip icon in the thread formatting pallet. (Navigate to the photo and follow the instructions).

    I had the same problem with my iPhone  and then seemed horrible on my iPad, but deleted the program and reinstalled it and have had no issues on my iPad now :)

    Ok, let me give it my best shot...

    1. How many resources show up in the Vyrso library unfiltered in any way? Can you give a screen shot? * 3532 yes
    2. How many resources show up in the Logos library unfiltered in any way? Can you give a screen shot? * 3549 . yes
    3. Do you have more than one Logos account / email address?  No. Using the only email I've ever used with Logos.
    4. What sort of internet connection are you using?  Low-end DSL (ATT 6.0)
    5. Have you tried using alternative internet connections? Yes. Ate at Panera Bread Company a couple of nights ago specifically to try that out. Then tried McDonald's wireless (bought a small coffee, black) :)
    6. How much space is left on your iPad? It's an iPhone and there's 2.6 gig available.
    7. How large is the Logos app on your device?  Oh, about 3/4 of an inch square. :)  Seriously, it's 3.3 gig; Vyrso is 216 MB.

    Stephen - Thanks for humoring me. [:)]

    Based upon your library count unfiltered in both apps, I can't imagine that the resources you are looking for are not available in the Vyrso app. The discrepancy in library size is almost certainly due to the free books provided in the Logos app which are not provided in the Vyrso one.  It does look like there is a bug (perhaps a known one, but I am too lazy tonight to look) somewhere in the filter process. If you want to mess around with that a bit, you could try doing the search for ancient with all four "sort by" views. I notice that your Logos app is being sorted by recent. It may very well be that if you change the "sort by" on the Vyrso app to "sort by recent" instead of "sort by title" your search results will come into alignment. If that doesnt work, go back to "sort by title" and search without ancient in the search field. I know you have 3,000+ resources, but at least it would be alphabetical. Anyways, it should only be twice as hard as the 1500 that comes up in the Logos app. [:P]

    I would still like to see you try to download the resource with a great wifi connection. I don't know how fast McDonalds or Panera Bread connections would be. One of the MVP's had difficulties downloading a resource, and when he was able to use a fast connection, it finally downloaded. 

    I have also known users to be able to download to Vyrso when they could not download to Logos, which is why I had you look into Vyrso. This may be explained by the 2.1x release of Vyrso over the 2.0x release of Logos. [The Logos 2.1x release was rejected by Apple and the developers are working on a new version with the corrections needed by Apple]. 

    In case you don't know, I am not a Logos employee… Just a volunteer forum user. I will try to contact someone about the download issue in general… there has been an increasing amount of posts similar to this one. I hope that it was a bug eliminated in the 2.1x builds, but I am not sure about that.

    I do appreciate your help! I hope the new Logos app is approved soon and we will see if that helps.

    I followed your suggestion and played around with the settings of the Vyrso app (recent, title, etc). It still does not show those resources. Thus, I cannot tell whether they would download in Vyrso while they refuse to in Logos. Strange. I would understand it better if ALL of the books from set were to not download. But when Volumes !-5 7-12 and 15 will download while the others do not, it seems surpassingly odd. :)

    For what its worth, any book that you can view on the mobile app should be able to be downloaded, unless it is a free item that you don't own a license to. There should be no resource which you own which would be available to be viewed, but unavailable to be downloaded.
