Wow, how did that happen?! It looks like the curve is still roughly the same shape -- though the $50 peak did finally surpass the $160 peak, the latter was only around 60% of covering production cost last time I looked, and there's no way that many more people bid $160 in the past few days. Logos must have lowered the production cost to make this go through sooner.
The curve was identical when it first happened with the $160 being slightly higher. Could be more $50 coming in or perhaps some have finally reduced their $160s to $50 now that it doesn't matter.
The shape of the curve was identical, but the height of the curve was much lower. This is what it looked like yesterday; I happened to take a snapshot:
The peak at $160 was only about 60% of the way up to the top, and the peak at $50 was slightly lower. It doesn't really matter whether more people bid $50 or some lowered their bids from $160 to $50. There's no way we'd be over the top at $50 AND almost over the top at $160 unless something else has changed too. I think what happened is they lowered the goalpost.
There is a week to get the price even lower. This could turn into a trememdous bargain!

Pure speculation: Something tells me that Logos thought this was going to go into production a lot sooner than it did. Much like with the Genesis collection, they probably got a head start on this project. What good is a project nearing completion (or already done) that cannot be bought?
Quite possible that the original production cost was a best estimate, and that once someone got started on, or looked more closely at the scope and content (based on recent experience), that the production costs were re-assessed and came out somewhat lower. Curves do not retain the same shape if there is a sudden influx of new bidders at the lower price.
Josh, originally 5 sets were on pre-pub back in '09 or '10, but they never made it out. Logos took them off the site for some time and then introduced them again as CPs along with all the other sets. I'm thinking Revelation was one of those 5.
I thought I was going to have to passon this one as no way was I going to pay $160! I'm specially glad for you, Rosie, as I know the set was worth $160 to you, and I have a feeling you may have lowered your bid to support the rest of us.
Thank you all for making this possible. Now can we please get the Psalms and Romans sets going? I really want those two. Psalms is packed with excellent commentaries. I paid $10@ dollars for William Plumer's massive commentary on the Psalms. It is almost as big as Spurgeon's treasury of David.

I would like to see Romans and Psalms move along as well. I think that Logos has re-estimated the production cost of Romans (along with Revelations) as Romans took a huge jump in 1 day.
It was worth $160 to me and that's what I initially bid, but I was one of the first ones to lower my bid from $160 to $50 and was very vocal in pushing that strategy. You attribute it too much to altruistic motives. I wanted to get this collection sooner rather than later, and I figured this strategy would win out. It wasn't working, but Logos seems to have "helped" things along a bit. So I'm pleased! Also glad others can get this. I'm not totally selfish, after all. [:)]
I have a good feeling that this will hit $40. Not that my feelings are subjective or anything like that!
While I really like Logos having lowered the goal posts on this one, it seems to demonstrate that the strategy of encouraging people to drop their bids to $50 so that when it goes through the100% mark at $50 it will encourage a LOT more people to get involved and bid, seems like we have uncovered an ineffective strategy. The week is rapidly heading to a close and the line crosses the 100% mark at not much lower than $47, which is not even a bid option.Unless something really dramatic happens very quickly, this one is not going to go below $50 even with a full week of that price for 27 volumes by some quite well known authors.....
Ditto the set on Romans which seems to have suffered the same fate, a helpful hand by Logos in lowering the goal posts but not enough momentum yet to get it down as far as $35 for 32 volumes..... (by arguably less well known authors...)
I do not think that logos is seeking to cover costs, rather it is pushing all the classic sets into production come what may (just look at how quickly they are moving into production), I suspect the reason is to include them in Logos 5 base packages.

At least I'm glad they gave it the shove with still over a week to go before bidding closed. They could easily have done it on a Wednesday which would have given us only 2 days to get more bids and lower the price. There's still time, though I agree it's unlikely at this point.

I think it would be a wise move by Logos to provide a bundle (or an OT and a NT collection) of all the classic commentaries once they all have gone through production. Surely Logos 5 Platinum (or whatever it will be called) should have them.
