Exciting that this resource is to be made available.
I'm in at $75. I may have to raise that, but I'm hoping more will get in at less so a few don't have to give all. (Or some similar Churchillian phrase like that.)
Here is the Link: http://www.logos.com/product/18436/the-complete-spurgeon-sermon-collection
Logos could you lower the pricing scale on this offer. Very few would be willing to bid $475. and some may want to bid slightly less than $75. Thanks.
The Complete Spurgeon Sermon Collection (63 vols.) - Logos Bible Software
Its very nice they are offering to upgrade our older versions if it is produced. I encourage all in ministry to own this collection, so bid if you don't already have it. I paid about $100 for my set (IIRC) and feel it was more than worth that, so bid generously.

Mention is made of it being free for those who own the Ages Software version that was made for Libronix.
I bought a special Calvin - Spurgeon - ISBE collection many years ago that includes all 63 volumes of sermons (New Park Street Pulpit + Metroplitan Tabernacle Pulpit). I recall someone else mentioning they bought the same 3-part collection, I think on a March Madness thread last week. Will we get this "upgrade" for free, does anyone know?

I believe that is exactly the set Logos is referring to. Calvin and Spurgeon were also available separately beside being bundled together with the original ISBE (Which is also on prepub: http://www.logos.com/product/18410/the-international-standard-bible-encyclopedia-1915-edition .)
I assume that this is replacing the prior "Complete Spurgeon Sermon Collection"?
Yes; if click wish list title, link shows product no longer available for purchase (so may want to remove from wish list)
Keep Smiling [:)]
Fascinating. As an owner of the previous version, I presume it would be foolish for me to bid on this one, and I'll enjoy an upgrade if it ever goes into production.
This means that we have to convince everybody who has not purchased it in the past to bid on this CP. However, the lowest bid price is only $22 less that the "current" or expired production version. I could see this one languishing.
So I'm cheering for bids! Go, bidders, go! If it was in KS4J's wish list, that sounds like at least one potential bidder (and I'm surprised that KS4J wasn't already an owner).
Also in at $75! An amazing set, and worth $75 for the Logos tagging... but also available in PDF and TXT for free, so $75 is about my limit.
also available in PDF and TXT for free, so $75 is about my limit.
I think we'll see improvement in typos, formatting, and overall appearance by the by the time Logos is finished with it. The AGES version is quite old.
I think $100 is a very fair bid and I'd be glad to pay that (or a bit more) for this excellent resource if I didn't already have it. PDFs and TXT files don't excite me.
PDFs and TXT files don't excite me.
But a concerted effort by PBB adopters may be greatly excited to convert all 3.5k sermons vs. paying Logos to do it.... and even if not, there are sites that have all of his sermons indexed by topic and Scripture reference. Today. Also for free.
I do agree that I'd prefer to have Spurgeon's sermons integrated in my library... but yeah, $75 is still about my personal limit given the online availability.... but that's just me and no reflection on your personal preferences intended.
Hi:
I have the Ages Collection for Spurgeon. Somehow I do not see the Librionix simbol in the CD case or in the CD. How do I know if mine will be run for free?
Thanks,
Nannette
I had wondered about that (upgrading older versions) when I saw the CP email notice this morning. Thanks for sharing this news. $75 is very fair for this set.
I have the Ages Collection for Spurgeon.
Nannette,
If you have Logos/Libronix and those volumes of Spurgeon are not in your Library then you probably have the .pdf versions AGES produced. The lack of any mention of Libronix/Logos on the CD suggests that is the case. In that event, no you will not be upgraded. You do not have a Logos product to upgrade.
Check it out; even try installing the software to see whether it references Logos/Libronix. If you have the .pdf version, now is your chance to bid on and perhaps obtain the Logos version.
Here's a little limerick for some fun (HT: Alistair Begg)-
There once was a preacher name Spurgey,
Who really hated liturgy,
But his sermons were fine;
I use them as mine.
And so do most of the clergy.
[H]
I found out that mine was in PDF, so I did the bid. Thanks.

Not sure when they did it but I checked today and they now have $25 and $50 bid options!
You are right, and welcome to the forums!
(Did you place a bid? You can do so HERE.) [:)]
I've been waiting for Logos to lower the minimum bid below $75. That looks much like minimum price setting and has created a peak at $75. Can we get it down, as we did Revelation set?
I'm not happy about the high minimum bids they have for some sets. seems to go against the principle of letting us decide the price. I didn't bid at all till they lowered the minimum price.

In at $50... And it's OK if I miss because it goes for more.
I would be willing to make the sacrifice & lower my bid, however, should conditions warrant. [;)]
I wanted to bump this good CP opportunity since it's languishing at around sixty-something per cent at $75.00 bids.

$75 is a great price for this mammoth collection.
$50 would be even better. [:)]
$75/$50?? It belongs in the library of every pastor. His sermons sold by the thousands every week. Lay people avidly read them. My Greek professor, Dr. Curtis Vaughan, said that for years he read one sermon a day. I'm sorry I can't say that. I'm sure I'd be better off if I did. You could hardly spend $75 in a better way.
If you had $75 to just "spend." $50 is better.... [:P]
I totally agree. Quandary is, I'm supposed to get this for free, being an owner of the prior version developed jointly with Ages Software. At the original CP price, which was something like $450, being grandfathered in was the route for me, no questions asked. But, I would certainly be willing to contribute the current concensus price of $50-75 toward the redevelopment effort.
Question is, if I bid on the CP item will Logos accept that and charge me even though I am grandfathered in. I don't want to place a bid that counts toward the item getting the qualified amount of participation if, when it is ready and gets distributed, Logos automatically recognizes me as a grandfathered owner and does not charge me.

Hi Randal. The short answer is that a CP bid can be canceled and you won't be charged for it.
The longer answer, though, is that I wouldn't make a CP bid knowing I was going to cancel. I also have the prior version of Spurgeon's commentaries and really want to see this upgrade come to fruition. I'm not, however, going to make a CP bid to help push it over the top. It just wouldn't seem right to me. Besides, I'm sure the updated Spurgeon will get done because many new Logos customers do not have the older version and will see this for the great deal that it is.

If I bid, it would not be with the intention to cancel it knowing I would still get it because I am a prior owner. I would id with the intent that I get charged for teh upgraded material just like one would get charged if one did not own the prior version. What I am fearful of is that I place a bid with that intent, but Logos at distribution time recognizes me as a prior owner and does not charge me.
My apologies, Randal, I misunderstood. I have no idea how that would work, but you may be right.
Frankly, though, I don't think that one bid is going to make any difference, probably not many of us would be willing to pay another $75 on top of the initial cost for our Logos/Ages Spurgeon. Were I in your place (and I guess I am!), I would just keep promoting it to others and let the thing play out.
Randal -
If I were you, I would look for someone whom you feel would use this collection, and ask them if they would like it. Explain to them the process, help them to place a bid on their account, and give them the money for the bid. [:)]
*BUMP*
To keep this thread at the top of the list, does anyone with the current Ages collection in Logos or access to his sermons have a certain sermon of Spurgeon's that stands out or has impacted them recently?
(if you're having trouble finding them, try using Mark Barnes' Index to Spurgeon's Sermons PB)
As for myself #207 Sovereign Grace and Man's Responsibility (Rom. 10:20-21) is an incredibly thought provoking sermon.
Another bump for The Complete Spurgeon Sermon Collection.
If you're someone who enjoys older sermons, I think this could be a good investment - even at the rather princely sum of $75.00 (which could hopefully come down a little with a stronger following.)
Whilst I do use parts of this resource via public domain sites for free, I would really appreciate having this indexed in my Logos library for convenience. At around $0.02 per sermon, I would willingly pay for the privilege too!
For the guys worried about placing a bid to put it over the top and then canceling (I'm assuming this is an issue for you all because it is against your conscience and deceitful), consider this from the CP page:
"Do you already own the Ages edition of The Complete Spurgeon Sermon Collection (63 vols.) that was built for Libronix? Then you will receive this updated collection for free, and the files will automatically download when it is complete. The previous edition was created many years ago, using the best digital files available at the time. We’re rebuilding The Complete Spurgeon Sermon Collection from the ground up—this collection contains new, updated files. Enhance your library with over 3,500 sermons from the "Prince of Preachers" by placing your bid today!"
Seems strange to me that right after saying that you all will get the upgrade for free, they encourage bidding on the resource. Is this just a general encouragement actually directed only to those who will not receive the upgrade for free? If so, this statement is almost out of context. Or is this statement directed toward those who would receive the upgrade for free as well? I think that's a viable question. I won't assume Logos' position. But they may want you to bid, simply to determine interest, with the intention of giving it to you for free anyway. That's just a thought to consider. Could be wrong though.

I have to agree, Robert, that the encouragement to bid in the quote is strange. It could be little more than a formatting error, that the block quote was not intended to include the last sentence within it, or it could be an encouragement to bid to see the interest.
There's a nice plug for this sermon set in yesterday's blog:
The clarify succinctly: The Charles Spurgeon Collection does not include his sermons, but everything else. The Complete Spurgeon Sermon Collection is replacing the an older collection of the same content; it includes only his sermons. Their content is not the same.
Dear Logos,
Now that you've promoted this pre-pub on the blog, and the price range people seem to be willing to pay is clearly in the $50-75 range, please rescale the bid range to allow for $5-10 gaps maxing out well below the ridiculous top price you originally set. This will encourage some $60-65 bids which might take this over he top sooner. We know you want to get his project done. Give some help, please.

I agree. We need to allow folks to bid at lower price points between $50 and $75. Personally, I think the current bid at $75 is too much, compared to the price of the available set.

Don't get me wrong… I hope it goes to $50 or less, but what "available set" are you referring to? Logos isn't selling this currently.
+1 [Y] for changing bid increments to $ 5
Looking at => http://www.logos.com/product/18436/the-complete-spurgeon-sermon-collection noticed $ 75 bidding has over 75 % progress while $ 100 bidding has less than 20 % progress.
This resource is creeping up towards the top end of the 60-80% band at $75.00.
Hoping for some new bidders (or Logos "re-calculating" the production cost [:O]) to get this across the line!

"It was the standard practice of Charles Haddon Spurgeon to preach three times weekly - twice on Sunday, and once on Thursday evening - the Sunday morning sermon was usually selected for publication the following Thursday of that week. Price: one penny. These sermons were all taken in shorthand. It is estimated that over 100 million copies were sold by the year 1905. W. Robertson Nicoll wrote: "Spurgeon's sermons are invariably worth buying, and the man who has a set of them possesses a very good theological library."" -- Quoted from http://www.apibs.org/chs.htm
Ok Folks,
After successfully getting Andrew Murray out of CP, this is the next most worthy "popular" pastor with a collection that we can get out of CP with little effort. New bids @ $50 and $75 will likely close this very useful collection next week. Bill S and all my friends from the Murray thread, please help get this into production! [:)]
