New Ipad, Tips to share

I recently purchased a refurbished Ipad 2, from Apple. The Logos application works very well. I noticed the text was not sharp and crisp like my Kindle Fire. I changed the font size to the middle of the dial and now the text is crisp and pleasant to read.

If you have any tips to share, please let us know.

Great move! I thoroughly enjoy using my iPad to read Logos resources. It makes them feel more a like a "book" than reading them off a computer screen.

One tip I use, especially when doing my daily Bible readings, is to split the screen (you can learn to do that by following this helpful thread) so that I have my preferred Bible open alongside a Bible commentary.

I typically use a single volume commentary on the whole Bible so that as my daily reading takes me through the OT, NT, Psalms and Proverbs, I can simply skip straight to the right place in the commentary (by one press of the semi-circle which splits the screen - assuming you haven't linked-set the two halves of your screen) to get more insight into what I'm reading. Using a single volume commentary saves you from having to open up a new single volume commentary if your reading plan dips you in and out of several books of the Bible each day.

If you hit the "Download All" button when you don't have anything entered in the library search pane, it will download all the resources in your library capable of being read on the iPad.

If you enter a search into the library search pane - and this then filters your library according to whatever search you entered - clinking on "Download All" button will only download those resources you have filtered by your search. So, for example, if you enter "NAC" in the library search pane and hit "Download All" this will only download the NAC commentary set (and any other resources which creep into this search!)

As Paul Into Grace said, it is up top. You might have to scroll up. The following screen shot shows how to download all of your Vyrso titles.

I have a question - I am downloading all my resources, as it has the space on my iPad. Periodically, I get a message "Unable to download:" and a resource name. I am on my home wireless which is rock solid, hi speed and great signal. So I don't think it's a communication problem. Is this possibly because it's going through all my resource names in my library, and the "Unable to download" are resources I am licensed for that are not available yet on the iPad?

Second question - is there an easy way when all is done to see which resources in my library are not on the iPad?

No. If a resource is unavailable for the iPad, it won't even show up in the list. This is a known issue. I am not sure why some won't download… Sometimes ones will download for you but not for me.

Are you asking to see which resources are mobile enabled but not downloaded? The short answer is no. There is no feature to see which books are downloaded other than going offline.

If you are asking to see which books are not mobile enabled… there is syntax for that (I think) by visiting the logos website, but I am not sure what it is.

The search features are really designed for online use… downloading the books doesn't make much difference.

None… accept that you can't read the books when offline if you haven't first downloaded them. There are several users who feel the need to download as many as possible… I am the opposite. I try to download as few as possible… I mostly download the books I am currently reading, and a handful of others that might be useful when I am out and about. Most of the time I have good internet, so this is not a great concern of mine.

Think of the tools across the bottom as windows to your
library. Home=devotionals, Library=all
resources, Search=Bible dictionaries, Passage Guide=commentaries, Bible Word
Study=lexicons, Text Comparison=Bibles.
Of course this is an oversimplification.
Then I find it helpful to split the screen for study. Tap on the grey semicircle at the bottom to
split it evenly. Many would find it
desirable to maintain their preferred Bible in the passage they are studying without
having to keep hitting the back arrow.
To do that you have to maintain focus on the second window when you are
using the tools. So for example, if you
want to do a word study, you double tap a word or press and hold and select
lookup, then tap Bible Word Study. Now
if you want to hyperlink to a lexicon, tap done. Then tap the window opposite your Bible to
gain focus then go to the bottom of the screen and tap Bible Word Study and the
lexical form is now there. Now you can
tap the lexicon hyperlink and it will open in the window opposite your
Bible. The same principle holds true
with any of the tools. Make sure you
have focus on the window opposite your Bible and you never lose your Bible
reference. One exception is Bible
reference hyperlinks. In that case you
would just tap the back arrow to return to your Bible passage. Another example would be a search for a word in a Bible dictionary. Double tap the word and select copy. Then regain focus on the second window and then tap search at the bottom. Double tap the search reference box and tap paste. Then make sure basic search is selected then tap where it says Entire Library and choose the Bible Dictionary favorites collection you have already made on your desktop. Then tap the reference box again and tap search. Now when you select the Bible dictionary you want it will open to the word in question on the screen opposite your Bible. For the passage guide, double tap the reference window in your Bible pane. Tap select all and then copy. Gain focus on the opposite pane and then tap passage guide at the bottom and paste the reference in and tap go. Now the commentary you select will open opposite your Bible.

I'm at a complete loss as to how to do this. Where do I find the lexicon hyperlink? Thanks again.

I currently have an iPad 1.0, 64GB, Wi-Fi, and 3G. I have 5,260 Logos resources, but not all are downloaded onto my iPad. I have slightly over 1,000 downloaded. It's slow.

I have a question for those with a new iPad and a large number of resources. I am considering purchasing an iPad 3, 64 GB and wi-Fi.

I would like to know if I will see a dramatic increase in speed, with a new iPad?

My iPad 3 is my first, so I can only compare to my iPhone 3GS. iPhone slow; iPad blazingly fast. Give input, and it responds. I have the 64GB and no 4G. It really is night and day for me.

My wife always gives wisdom in purchases like this. “If God wants you to have it, I want you to have it.” And since we waited so long to get one, she was very pleased with the decision.

Gary, I have a 64 GB new iPad with a little over 4600 resources downloaded (can be a pain when resources don't download properly and you have to redownload ALL the resources). I went from an iPad 2 to the new iPad and the speed difference for Logos was not that noticeable. I still get the spinning wheel sometimes when I try to go to the next page (don't have this issue with the other apps like Kindle, etc.). Relative to the iPad 1 though, you should notice an improvement in performance. Note: the text is definitely clearer for reading purposes.

I can only compare my iPad (1 Gen) to my iPhone 4s. The iPhone does seem quicker, but I don't prefer it for reading. I would really like a side by side comparison with my library. Any loaners Logos? [:D]

Alabama, I purchased my iPad 3 today. It's fast. Previously, I had approximately 1,000 of my 5,300 resources downloaded on my iPad 1. I hit the "download all" button, and ended with 4,760 resources downloaded. I did a search on "a man after God's", and approximately 7 seconds later I had 25 listings.
