Trying again - very basic problems persist
OK, I decided to try the iPad app again (Logos), and see if I can get some basic things to work.
I deleted the Logos app off my iPad (version 3), and reinstalled it from the App Store just now.
I make sure my laptop Logos has fully sync'd.
I run the Logos iPad app, it asks me to sign in, which I do. First thing I notice, is two reading plans. Reading plan 1 matches my laptop, same place in the resource, same date to read next in the plan. All is good there. The second reading plan showing on the iPad is a Bible reading plan that I completed last November, which is still on my desktop. So I close down the iPad app, delete that plan from the laptop, bring up the iPad app, and it is gone. Very good.
Third, I have a second resource reading plan on my desktop that does not show up on my iPad app at all. This is the first problem.
Second, and I have reported this before, when I bring up the next day's reading plan to read on the one plan that shows on the iPad, there are NO bars showing "Start Reading", "Stop Reading", or "Mark Read". It is like it is not in a reading plan at all! I have checked pages before, pages after today's reading, nothing shows up. This makes reading plans on the iPad useless.
The iPad version is 2.0.2, just downloaded from the App Store. The laptop version is 4.5b beta 7. Is there an incompatibility between 4.5b beta and 2.0.2?
This iPad app has been beyond frustrating. Thanks for your help if any can be provided!

I have experienced the issue of a reading plan not showing the start and stop of a plan at times. I just go back to the home page and reload the reading plan. It shows the start and stop on the second restart. A minor frustration, but not a deal breaker for me.

Thanks Kenneth, I have tried reloading the reading plan (if you mean go to home page, re-click on reading plan, then reselect today's reading) numerous times, I have never seen the reading plan bars show up.

I am running 4.5b7 and 2.0.2 and reading plans work fine.

Is the resource associated with the plan available on the iPad?

Like Kenneth, I sometimes (I've probably seen it twice) see no reading bars but, again like Kenneth, going back to the home page and starting again resolves this.
So I don't understand why you are seeing this problem - but I'm afraid that doesn't help much!

Thanks Graham. I assume the resource is on the iPad since I can read it fine. Is that what you mean? I get all the text of the resource, but no reading bars. Ever.
Plus, why does one reading plan not show up at all?
I am sure if this was a persistent problem for everyone it would have been fixed right now, although it seems to take forever to get things published to the App Store. That said, there is something that is causing this to happen all the time for me. I am disappointed no one from Logos chipped in the last time I reported this. I guess I'll give it a couple of days and if no one has any good ideas I'll just uninstall the app until it appears from on the forum posts it is stable enough to use for real study instead of trying to figure out how to make it work correctly.
Thanks for your help!

Sorry, I wasn't clear.
What I was thinking was that if the resource wasn't available for mobile use then Logos might have built the intelligence into the Reading Plan functionality to not make it available on mobile devices (not sure if that would be a good idea but it would be possible). However, the fact that you can read the text on the iPad shows it is available for mobile use so my suggestion is not relevant to your problem.
When I access a reading plan on my iPad it looks something like this:
when I click on a plan I get something like
when I click on the next entry (tomorrow in this case) I often get taken to a page with no reading bars on it
this is because the "start bar" is at the bottom of the previous page - i.e. the app is positioning itself where I need to start reading, not on the bar
Is is possible that this is why you are not seeing the start bar - you need to flick back a page?
Alternatively, when you go through this process do you see things that are different to what I show above?

What is the reading plan? Is the book mobile enabled?
when I bring up the next day's reading plan to read on the one plan that shows on the iPad, there are NO bars showing "Start Reading", "Stop Reading", or "Mark Read".
How do you "bring up the next day's reading?" What are the steps you take? EDIT: I was trying to see if you were following the steps that Graham laid out before my post went up. [:)] The mobile app doesn't have visual filters like the desktop app... you have to initialize the reading plan each time you bring up the resource.
Can you verify that you are online?
If none of this is helping, can you share your reading plans with us?

For Graham, here are the screen shots from my iPad. You can see the Home Page, the Reading Plan, the current page of the Reading plan, and the page before. No reading bar. Then, I show a screen shot of my laptop on the resource - you can see where the reading plan bar is between the two pages I have posted from the iPad.
from the laptop:

Hi Dominick
The book you are using is a Vyrso resource, not a Logos one.
Have you tried with a Logos resource?
I think a Vyrso one should work fine but just want to get that out of the way.

Dominic - In your screen shots, the last page of reading ends without the next section appearing… did you check the next page to see if the bar was there?
I wonder if Graham is right and that there is an issue with the reading plan & a Vyrso resource. Can you create a generic plan with the ESV just to check it out?
Also, what was the other resource/ reading plan?

I've just creating Reading Plans with a couple of Vyrso books and they don't show reading bars on the iPad.
It's beginning to look as though this is the issue

How did you create such a clean reading plan with each reading lining up with a chapter? Can you show me the plan in L4? I have tried to do the same thing, but it never works!
I think this is "normal" for Vyrso books!
I saw it when I was reading one on my PC last year.
I think - but am not sure - that it is an artefact of a lack of page numbers.
EDIT: The thread at http://community.logos.com/forums/t/42549.aspx provides more context on this "sectionising"

Good news! (I hope [:)])
I just created a reading plan using a Vyrso book, and it DOES have the "reading bars." I am using 2.1.3b2. Hopefully when this is pushed through, it will work for you as well.

Hi guys,
Sorry not to be on - I was out this afternoon.
Yes, the problematic resource is Vyrso. Maybe that is a bug in 2.0 Given that hint, I realized the reading plan that does not show up at all on iPad is a Personal Book. Can you get Personal Books to show up as reading plans on the iPad?
Now I just created a reading plan with "Kinship by Covenant" by Scott Hahn, a Logos resource (non PB non Vyrso), it has Page index, and there are no bars either!!!
'Bama - when I create reading plans, I just keep tweaking the length of time until I see an amount per day that I like that looks even. Is there something specific you would like to see?
I will try ESV next. I was trying to see if non-Bibles work as reading plans, I don't think they do. Can someone tell me a non-Bible that works for them on the iPad and I'll try it?

ESV works. Let me know a non-Bible resource to try that works as a reading plan for you on iPad.
At this point, only Bibles work as reading plans on iPad. Nothing else shows the Reading bars!

Is there a way I can get the beta of the iPad? This is just very frustrating!

Holiness Day by Day - Jerry Bridges.
Can you get Personal Books to show up as reading plans on the iPad?
Since Personal books are not yet available on the mobile app, no, pbb reading plans are not available. Syncing of PB's would be required first.

No. I got it figured out. The Vyrso books apparently create readings by chapter headings, which can be nice. It is annoying, however, that you have to have a reading for the title page, TOC, forward, etc.Is there a way I can get the beta of the iPad?
I don't know. The beta is a private one… The only way to install apps is through the app store, but Apple has a method for allowing developers to allow a limited number of beta testers. Contact me and I can explain more.

OK you won't believe this - works fine on laptop of course. On iPad - I get the Start Reading Bar, but no Stop Reading Bars!!! Wanna see a picture? I checked where the bar should be, and I went at least 10 pages past - no bar.
Since Personal books are not yet available on the mobile app,
FYI the PB does download and permit me to read it. Not sure what you meant by "not available".

Thanks, I guess I'll wait. I know about the developer license, 100 licenses, ad-hoc distribution (or jailbreak <g>). Thanks

Don't know what to say. Sorry! [:S] Did you say that you have reinstalled the app? Do you have many downloaded resources?
Is the reading plan one reading (page) a day? If so, could you show a screen shot of the two days?

I am quite confused. Unless there is something new that I am unaware of, or you are beta testing something that we should not know about ([:P]), personal books do not sync across devices (computers or mobile devices). If for some reason you have discovered that I am wrong, please enlighten me. None of my personal books are available. If you do have a PB on your iPad, I would love to see a screen shot of the book info.

Yes
Do you have many downloaded resources?
I have only downloaded, less than 5 resources to the iPad

I'll recreate that reading plan tomorrow, and post a pic. It is one page a day. It will look like I said :-)
If you do have a PB on your iPad, I would love to see a screen shot of the book info.
I'll upload a screen shot tomorrow. The way to read it is to make a Reading plan of it! The whole book is there when I click on a daily reading. No reading bars though!

That is really interesting! The book isn't available in your library? Can you download the book for offline use? I'll try creating my own tomorrow.

I've just created a Reading Plan of a PB and it doesn't show up on my iPad.
However, if there are issues with a Vyrso book - with its different tagging to a Logos resource - it is conceivable that the same issues could extend to a PB resource even if it were made available on the iPad.

I am so sorry Alabama, I got confused with the different resource types I was trying. I said it correctly earlier in this thread, here is the latest and pictures:
1. Personal Book Reading Plans do NOT show up on my iPad, as you said.
2. Vyrso books do show up, but have no reading plan bars. I posted pictures of that earlier, "How to preach without notes"
3. You suggested Holiness Day by Day. I get start reading plan bar but no end reading plan bar. I created a new plan (started it a few days ago so I could check off some entries; plan is for one year). Here is a picture of the next day to read from my laptop, as you can see it is a short entry:
As you can see, the end of the reading is at "This is the good news of the gospel", right before the section "Week 1 / Monday". Here is picture of 2 pages prior, two pages after the reading plan for today from the ipad, and as you can see no Stop Reading bar!!!!!! --->
