How do I stop Logos automatically signing in (permanently)

I know you can press CTRL when clicking the icon in order to trigger the sign-in request, but how do I permanently make it ask for a password?

My PC always asks for one, oddly, which is fine. But my laptop (which gets borrowed by a couple of other people) always signs itself in.

Is it possible to turn this off?

I am sure there is a way to tweak this by getting "under the hood", but I am unaware of a button to switch it off. Are you worried about others messing up your notes?

I wonder why you want to force the login each time? If, as Alabama asked, you're worried about someone else getting in and messing up your notes, forcing the login each time isn't going to help, since Logos remembers your password from the last time and all another person would have to do would be click the Signin button and they'd be in.

I think it's meant to be a convenience to you that you don't have to log in each time. It isn't a security risk, as far as I can imagine. It's just that online activity can't happen (syncing your notes, getting software updates, etc) unless you're logged in. There's no access to your account to purchase more books or get at your credit card info or anything.

I understand the concern...my notes and prayer list in particular can be very private. If I loaned my computer I wouldn't want people to have access to read everything.

I don't know of how this is possible, but I think that it is a worthy suggestion.

Really? I find that even if I sign out of my Logos account online, and tell Firefox not to remember anything, then as soon as I click on my email address in Logos it opens up my account online. That's what I'm worried about. Maybe my Windows has a goofy setting somewhere.

I also read another post about doing the opposite (ie breaking the license agreement by letting multiple people log in under one account) and since I object quite strongly to this I would rather prevent people having the opportunity.

Also my notes are private but I can live with that!

Very valid. I probably would set up a non-administrator account different to the one I tend to use - then I could share the password to this second account but people using it couldn't access my data and private applications such as Logos.

Unfortunately this is not possible unless you know how to write an exe file for Logos. Which if you did you would need to correct the line about the auto-login every time there is an update.

The auto sign-in was implemented many many moons ago, and it has been an added feature that has proved itself many times, for us oldies it make for a convenience that is, well, a convenience.

The only way to keep from having someone use your L4 on a ‘shared” laptop, is to uninstall it. This provides for your security, since this seems to be an issue, and also discourages others from using it as "you" as well.

The only other way that I can think of is to put the exe file on a flash drive and carry it around with you, but then that may prove to be futile since you would still need to be able to re-write the *.ini file that tells the program that the *.exe file is on a flash drive….

First, you can only set non-administration for another if you are the administrator.

Second, the forced sign-in/login is contained within the *.exe I believe. I have never come across a file that is separate from this that contains this particular info, but I could be wrong…you would have to call Logos HQ and speak to a techie….[I thought that you were referring to your laptop and not your PC, there is a difference. Are you sharing the PC or the Laptop?]

wait a sec. Clarify from where you are clicking your email address and it goes straight to your account. I just checked my L4 and every place that my email showed It would take me to the Log-in screen for Logos.com. It did not automatically log in to my account.

Also, I am not sure I understand about the PC having to ask for a sign-in before the Program starts and the laptop does not......re-read what you wrote and it doesn't make sense...sorry have to ask.

Logos's current "login" scheme does not make those things private if you're not logged in. It just makes Logos not connect to the servers, but everything that is already on your hard disk is accessible to anyone who opens up Logos. The only way to prevent other users from getting at your notes and prayer lists is to prevent them from launching Logos altogether, which they shouldn't be able to do if they log in to Windows as another user, since the Logos app is installed in your \username\\AppData\Local\ folder, which is inaccessible to other users.

So if you plant lend your computer to someone else, set up a Guest account for them that only has access to what you want them to have access to. Then log off your Windows user account. Also, before you do that, make sure you're logged off your Logos account in your browser (since the cookies will stick around on your computer and allow other people who go to the Logos website to impersonate you on the forums, buy books for you, etc.; though I'm not sure this is really necessary as I think the browser cookies are Windows-user-specific).

I Know where you are at and mine does not do an auto log-in to my account even tho I am logged in here. On all three machines and the netbook - it is all the same......I have to enter the info.....

I've since found that I had neglected to delete all of the cookies.

OK. My desktop PC requires me to log in every time I start the Logos software, even if I am in the same session of Windows. I've no idea why so I'm going to ask a Logos techie tomorrow.
My laptop doesn't require me to log in each time, even if I restart Windows. I'm going to take on board what people have been saying here, and will create another 'guest' user. I'll also be more careful with my cookies. I just think it's strange that my laptop copy of Logos has auto-login and my PC doesn't, despite the fact that they are both identical versions installed within a few days of each other.
Since my PC requires login, I thought it might be an easily adjustable setting.

You can set IE to delete cookies and encrypted date etc., etc. from the IE advnaced settings tab, everytime you close IE the cookies, etc., will be deleted. I am not sure about firefox.....But for the other I would call HQ. It is rather strange that one asks and the other does not....

Under Logos: one account with purchases under that account. You can setup another ‘user’ account but it would be devoid of any purchases unless you buy something.

Under Widows: As an ‘administrator’ you can setup many user accounts[having their own passwords] giving ‘permissions’ as needed to those different user account setting. Thus limiting who gets to use what, including Logos4.

The default installation for the Logos4.exe (and associated files) are in a user specific folder.

Concur with suggestion for an administrator to create a standard user for laptop sharing. The standard user would nominally not have access to the user account with Logos 4 installed. Security risk is standard user using password hacking techniques so can login as another user; using long, strong passwords significantly reduces hacking risk. I too am asked for a password each time I launch Logos 4. I have tried and tried to remedy this but no such luck. I did talk with Logos folks and was told they did not have any trouble with Logos on their Macbook. Advised that it might be a permissions issue with Apple software.

If there is a solution I hope you will share this on this site.

Ken - First, welcome to the forums!

Generally, it is best to post a new thread when dealing with a new issue. In this case, the original post is trying to do what you are trying to stop! [:D] Furthermore, you are posting in a thread in the Windows forum, but you are using a MacBook. You are more likely to get the help you need in the Mac forum, which can be found HERE.

I have not experienced this problem, but have heard a couple others with the same problem.

It would be best for you to post a new thread, and make sure to give more information. Specifically, what version of Logos are you using? What version of OSX?
