I have 2 questions regarding Logos 4 and the ipad.  I have the platinum library and I about to purchase an ipad.  How much space is needed for my Library? Can I use Logos offline with the Ipad?  Thanks

    Kathy,

In response to your second question, you do not use Logos 4 on the iPad; you use the Logos iPad app that is available from the App Store.  You can then download as many of your resources as you would like to you iPad for offline viewing.

I have Platinum plus many other resources and I have downloaded 895 volumes to the iPad.  This takes up 4.8GB of space right now.  However, that number will continue to grow as I highlight and take notes (and download future purchases).

The iPad apps in general have become very bloated since the introduction of the new iPad so I would not recommend purchasing less that 32GB.  If you plan to store pictures or large music or video libraries on it then you should increase to the 64GB.

Also, some resources are not available on the iPad app.  You can check specific resources on the Logos product information page for compatibility.

Hey Kathy - Welcome to the forums!

How much space is needed for my Library?

You don't need much space unless you plan to download your resources. The app is designed to be used online, but you can download resources for offline use if you need/want to.

Can I use Logos offline with the Ipad?

As Ron said, "Logos 4" doesn't run on the iPad - the Logos mobile app is used. It doesn't have all of the features and capabilities of L4, and many of the features are designed to be used online. You can read, highlight, take notes and do basic searches of downloaded resources offline. Word studies and passage guide currently require an internet connection, as this is processed on the Logos servers.

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses!

Has anyone tried downloading as much as possible of the Platinum library to their Ipad using the Logos app? If so how much storage was needed ( I believe I read somewhere that the Platinum took 16g of space)?  What are the advantages/disadvantages of having your library (as much possible) on the Ipad?

I would like to have as much as possible of my library downloaded for use when I am offline.

The only advantage is the ability to view those resources offline.

The disadvantages: Spending large amounts of time downloading (perhaps babysitting the process); having to redownload the resources if/when you need to reinstall the software; taking up a considerable amount of space which could be used for other things.

I do not recommend downloading all of your resources "just because you can" unless you have lots of time and can afford the 64GB iPad. Some users, however, rely upon their iPad to read books while they are away from an internet connection for an extended period of time. In which case, downloading all your resources may make sense.

At this point, there have been some issues which reinstalling the app has cleared things up. You should be aware of this when you make your decision.

I would like to have as much as possible of my library downloaded for use when I am offline.

I too have platinum--plus a few other resource--and I've downloaded as much of my library as the app will allow onto the iPad 3. Some resources cannot be used at all on the iPad, online or offline, so I'm missing those as well as resources they allow for online iPad use even if you don't own the license.

That said, it appears that Logos is taking up 8.2 GB on my iPad currently. If you downloaded the text-only resources (exclude atlas and illustration type resources), I think that would cut significantly down the usage. As I watched it download everything, it would zoom through most of them, but then it would pause for a minute or so while it downloaded the image-heavy resources.

If you know what resources you want to use while you're offline, downloading them is great. But you can't do searches while you're offline, so finding that nugget you're looking for while out at Bible study may not happen.

    Kathy,

How do you intend to use your library offline?  If you are planning on using advanced search features such as passage guide or Bible word study then there is no need to download your resources because you will have to be connected to the internet in order to use these features.  However, if you plan to read from a plethora of volumes in your library while offline then I can understand why you might want more resources.

I downloaded as many as I have because I travel overseas--counseling and debriefing missionaries.  For me, I need to have access to many resources, especially those in my library related to counseling.
