4.5c changes in UI generation

4.5c will see changes in how the Logos 4 user interface on the Mac platform is generated due to changes in plugin support for the latest versions of Apple's Interface Builder.  Serialized *.nib files will be removed and the interface will be generated from source instead.  Removing reliance on Interface Builder will allow us to use more updated tools from Apple as well as provide some performance improvements and lower memory overhead when creating or loading user interface elements.

The user interface itself should be identical after the conversion.  However, while the conversion process relies on tools provided by Apple, those tools do not completely describe the data inside of the  *.nib files; as a result there may be some imperfections after the switch.  Any discrepancies will be corrected as quickly as possible.

    Tonya-

Should there be any problems with Logos running 4.5c on a test computer, and 4.5b on a work computer?

Suspect 4.5b (stable) and 4.5c (beta) could be used on two computers (or on the same computer using two accounts, with Logos 4 Mac application installed in different folders: e.g. Documents).

I figure that you are right, but I want to double check. I am a little less adventurous than some [:)] With some more "Mac" changes, Logos could probably use extra beta testers.

Will these changes need everyone to be on Mac OS 10.6 or newer? We still have a few holdouts @ 10.5.8 [8-|]

Apple is beginning to force the issue with the demise of MobileMe at the end of June. I finally moved to 10.6.8, and will probably move on to 10.7 later this month.

Welcome in my Mac mentor. The water is fine.

I finally moved to 10.6.8, and will probably move on to 10.7 later this month.

Let's hope. It would be nice if Logos would fork with a legacy channel and stable channel and beta channel. That way they could move the technology forward without leaving anyone out in the cold. If you're on legacy you don't get updates but you can still use the system.

David Mitchell posted earlier that 7% of the L4 Mac Users were still on 10.5.8. There is now one less since I have moved to 10.6.8. I had been holding back because the server app our company uses for the Inventory database crashes with 10.6, and none of its components will run on Lion. Informed my son—and business partner—that I would not be able to modify the Inventory program after I moved up to Lion. He seems reluctant to upgrade the db engine. Can't understand why; it would only cost about $5k [:D]

Now, I just need to upgrade a few more application to be compatible with Lion—by then, MountainLion will roar [8-|]

    EDIT:

    Welcome in my Mac mentor.

What happened to the PC I used to know? [H]

There should not be any issues regarding these changes when running 4.5b and 4.5c using the same login.

4.5c does support 10.5.  10.5 users should see an identical UI to 10.6 and 10.7 users.

Does Apple has a 30 day return policy? Can I get my $49 back? I could have stayed with 10.5!

Actually, L4 seems a little faster with 10.6 than it did with 10.5. Could it be wishful thinking?

Snow Leopard (10.6) was noticeably faster than Leopard (10.5) in a number of applications.  If Mac hardware is capable of running 64 bit kernel, then can noticeably improve Logos 4 Mac performance along with other applications.  Wiki Mac Troubleshooting => Slow Performance includes:

Wondering if imperfections have potential to be like pre-alpha Logos 4 Mac releases where user interaction with Logos 4 on Mac was a bit challenging ? (e.g. could make changes using Logos 4 on Windows like create a shortcut, then sync to Mac for use)  Also remembering being Thankful during pre-Alpha releases as more Logos 4 functionality was exposed for use on Mac.

Wiki has => Logos 4 Beta Program with information and risks: e.g. Logos 4.5c Beta releases may have potential for user interface issue(s), which could be a bit buggy.

    Keep Smiling [:)]
