Fred - Some diagnostic questions for you:
    1. What versions of the apps are you using?
    2. How much free space is on your device?
    3. How many downloaded resources do you have?
    4. What internet connection are you using? How fast & reliable is it?
    5. What computer are you using?
    6. What version of L4?
    7. When the app does open, what does it open to (if a resource, be very specific).
    8. Have you tried doing a full shut down of the device? (Hold both buttons down for several seconds to power down the iPad)

Fred - I would like you to open your app and immediately go to the library. Please open the ESV to the book of Ruth. See if it crashes. If it does, then could you tell me how large your note files are?

The file is called notes.db. (On Mac, the path is Library > Application Support > Logos4 > Documents > [random] > Documents > Notes) Since you are running Lion, the user library is hidden by default. To find it, from the finder window go menu, push and hold the option key. This will reveal the library to you.
