Can someone remind me... or: LOGOS, how do I get the books I've paid for?

I don't want all the regressions in 4.5b. They seem to far outweigh any possible gain. So I haven't updated.
Only, Logos doesn't allow us to choose what to download... So by now I have at least 3 prepubs, some Vyrso books, and quite possibly some resource updates waiting in the queue, and I'm beginning to want them...
Can someone remind me exactly what happens when a software update is downloaded? There is an Install button to click for it as well as the one for the resources, right? So I should be able to download everything, and then delete the software update before it's installed, right? Or will the update download first, and nothing else come through until and unless the update is installed?
Logos: this really highlights the problem with these forced 'everything-or-nothing' downloads. We need to get control of our own downloads!

-Software update: updates the software, usually it is announced here on the forum and usually it has an attachment that briefly states what is updated.
-Resources update: updates resources[typo's, tagging, general update of the resource(s)]
-You can have 'auto-update' in the program settings set to NO and type in 'update now' to get an update as desired.
-'update resources' typed in the command box will check the resources and update as needed...
-The install button, I presume that it just notifies u that an update is available.....
Hope this helps.

Understand plus concur, especially if not need social networking additions in Logos 4.5b for personal Bible study.

Interesting set of questions, one option is email to Logos Technical Support => http://www.logos.com/about/contact with reference to this thread.
When indexer is indexing resources and has more to download, then indexing stops so can download.
Wonder if update resources command could be used ? The update now command should update both program and resources.
Am aware of another Logos 4.5a on Mac installation that has same desire to update resources but not the program so hope to know more in a few days.

I'm sorry KSFJ and fgh but this needs an answer from Logos? This is a rhetorical question; no issue with your comments. I'm just surprised.
Of course I do the same thing; let a bunch of resources build up so as not to risk another Logos update. I'm afraid to see what might happen if I turn the internet flag on. Of course I'm buying L3 resources so no major issue book-wise.

Program Settings has two items:
- Automatically download updates
- Use Internet
If "Use Internet" is No, then "Automatically download updates" is effectively ignored.
If "Use Internet" is Yes, then "Automatically download updates" setting is used, which affects resources and programs.
One option is "Use Internet" set to Yes (sync) with "Automatically download updates" being No to avoid resource and program updates.
Am upgrading an older Logos 4.3 installation to Logos 4.5a SR-1: manually upgrade program and launch with command key to work offline to can check/change program settings plus enable diagnostic logging. Then restart Logos 4.5a SR-1 on Mac with "Use Internet" set to Yes and "Automatically download updates" set to No so can find out what happens with update resources command when resource and program updates are available (Indexer.log file shows downloaded file names).

Thank you KS4J; that's what I was afraid of. Best to leave it off.

Looking forward to your report.
Also looking forward to a response from Logos...
(I thought I had a flash of intelligence an hour or so ago, when it struck me that I could get the resource files from the .ftp site. Unfortunately, while that would probably have worked a year ago, it didn't work today. Can't find a single file there more modern than Sept 30. [:'(])

Manually upgraded Logos 4.3 to Logos 4.5a SR-1, enabled diagnostic logging, then launched with "Use Internet" Yes and "Automatically download updates" set to No and opened to a blank layout. In Logos4.log file, noticed initial Update Manager item was creating update for Logos 4.5b SR-1, which was followed by creating updates for resource files so did not use update resources command. Also noticed Logos4.log downloaded many resource metadata updates. Logos 4.5a SR-1 had a pop-up: "Updates Available" so moved Indexer.log file (from Logos 4 Mac program launch, which had completed), then clicked "Updates Available" to start downloading 3.11 GB. Noticed 4 download jobs began in Indexer.log file, the first ones to complete were resource patches. The last file to download was the Logos 4.5b SR-1 Installer. The Indexer.log file showed update finished downloading:
- An update to version 4.52.0.2194 has finished downloading; showing tip.
- Setting status to NotRunning
- Was waiting to install updates, but Logos 4 is not longer running; starting discovery
- Setting status to PreparingLibrary
- Resource discovery started
Odd: Logos Bible Software 4 was running so starting discovery was a surprise; had opened to a blank layout.
The dock has a bouncing icon (showing tip) for "Logos 4 Update Installer" so clicked bouncing icon. The Installer dialog box with an update to install has two buttons "Cancel" and "OK" so clicked "Cancel" then looked inside ~/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/<random folder>/UpdateManager/Installers/<numbered> folder to find Logos4Mac.dmg (disk image), followed by moving Logos4Mac.dmg file to the trash.
Resource discovery is followed by indexing, which is taking hours. Once indexing is complete, planning to close Logos 4 Mac, move diagnostic log files, then launch Logos 4.5a SR-1 to a blank layout to see what happens.
By way of comparison, in a different Logos 4 Mac installation, a "Logos 4 Update Installer" appeared: "Resources are ready to be added to your library. Click OK to install them now or click Cancel to install them automatically next time you restart." with buttons "Cancel" and "OK"; clicked "Cancel" then restarted Logos 4 Mac to install and index new resources.

fhg,
Thank you for asking about the update and how it will affect your resources. If the resources were released after the 4.5b update they will be geared to work in 4.5b. If it has already downloaded the update and you restart Logos 4 it will try to install the update. You can decline the update however with the newer book files it could cause other issues. I appreciate the feedback on the all or nothing updates and I have passed this request on. Please let us know if you have any further concerns.

My concern is the 16± regressions in 4.5b, most of which have not even been acknowledge by Logos.

Caveat: attempt to install update does not happen if Logos4Mac.dmg file is in the trash. The Indexer.log file has an error:
- Download has finished, but no disk image can be found in /Users/<user name>/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/<random>/UpdateManager/Installers/<number>
Vyrso had a free eBook today (17 May), learned Logos 4.5a SR-1 Indexer on Mac cannot download new resource file(s) (by clicking "Updates Available" in Logos 4 Mac) since previously downloaded Installer has not been installed. Actually crashed Indexer because Logos4Mac.dmg file was missing.
Closed Logos 4.5a SR-1 on Mac, then moved Logos4Mac.dmg back to numbered folder along with moving diagnostic log files. Launching Logos 4.5a SR-1 on Mac caused "Logos 4 Update Installer" to appear with "An update for Logos Bible Software 4 is ready to be installed. Click OK to install it now." so clicked "Cancel" since do not want Logos 4.5b SR-1 update to Logos 4.5a SR-1 (too many feature regressions while adding social networking and community notes). Since had previously clicked "Updates Available" to download", the Indexer downloaded resource updates. However, since installer update was not done, when resource download completed, the "Logos 4 Update Installer" did not appear. Personally closed 4.5a SR-1, moved Logos4Mac.dmg to the trash, moved diagnostic files, then launched Logos 4.5a SR-1 that caused disk image error to repeat (and deleted numbered Installer folder) along with resource discovery and indexing. When want to update resource(s) again, personally need to create numbered folder and put back Logos4Mac.dmg file.
Appears another option is leaving Logos4Mac.dmg file in the Installers/<numbered> folder and cancelling install every time Logos 4 Mac is launched.
Also noticed since 4.5b SR-1 is not installed, that 4.5b SR-2 was not queued for download; only new or updated resource files.

Please elaborate about potential issues with newer book files geared to work in 4.5b. Curious about resource handling changes in Logos 4.5b that are not in Logos 4.5a SR-1 ? (suspect 4.5b has beta video improvements for FSB videos)

Thank you for asking about the update and how it will affect your resources.
I didn't. I asked how I could get the resources without the update.
And I do wish Logos stopped telling its employees to say thank you for everything and anything, whether appropriate or not. In cases like this it sounds and feels like you're saying it's a good thing that I still can't use the resources I've paid for weeks ago. Because if you agree it's a bad thing, it would have been more appropriate to apologize, don't you think?

I take it you had originally left the numbered folder in place. I wonder what would have happened if you had instead moved the whole numbered folder to Trash? Would you recommend that I try that, or do you recommend that I do things your way?

My most wanted resource is the Catechism. I presume that comes with a new datatype. So, although I can't remember seeing anything in the release notes, I suspect that's been 'smuggled' into one of the 4.5b's. Is there a way for you to see if there are datatypes in 4.5b that aren't in 4.5a? What happens if I download a resource I don't have all datatypes for? Just that some links don't work, or something more serious?

Observation: Feature Parity list has 44 feature discrepancies, with 4 replies by Logos and 9 user confirmed fixes in 4.5c Beta 1 for 18 recent 4.5# regressions.
Thankful for Logos 4.5c Beta 1 improvements on Mac, which includes user interface implementation changes => Reminder about 4.5c UI implementation changes
Wiki has => Logos 4 Beta Program with information and risks. In contrast to Logos 4.5b Beta 1, the current Beta release 4.5c Beta 1 seems stable; Mac Beta forum has a couple threads with issues => Bug: 4.5c Beta 1 UI bugs and => BUG: Linkset icon 4.5c b1 so one option is switching to Beta release. After installing Logos 4.5c Beta 1, could use command set update channel to stable to avoid future Beta release updates until 4.5c is released to Stable channel.
Caveat: if encounter issues in Logos 4.5c Beta 1, going back to earlier stable 4.5a SR-1 release requires prior preparation (could copy Logos 4 Mac application and your Logos 4 folder to another location before upgrading to Logos 4.5c Beta 1) OR could use Wiki steps to completely uninstall, then install a stable release with downloading resources and indexing. If want to go back to stable, would suggest using wiki => Uninstalling Logos 4 Mac to delete files (especially mono registry) before copying older Logos 4 Mac application and Logos 4 folder back to original locations.

Moving numbered folder to trash would be a bit easier to put back.

Suspect if a Logos resource requires a datatype in a newer release, then resource file would not be downloaded (avoids surprises since resource would not work properly).

I finally got around to trying this yesterday.
Moving numbered folder to trash would be a bit easier to put back.
It seems the software update always downloads last, so I choose [what I hope was] the even easier way out: I simply stopped the download before it finished, which dumped the half-downloaded file somewhere. No need to cancel installations or move back and forth to Trash.
Suspect if a Logos resource requires a datatype in a newer release, then resource file would not be downloaded
You were quite right, and I should have known that answer without asking. No Catechism [:'(]
But other than that I seem to have gotten everything, and everything seems to work like before. Thanks for your help in testing this out!
Next week when the encyclicals are released as well I guess I'll have to update, one way or another, but until then I think I'll stay where I am, given no problems arise after my unorthodox updating.
