Frequent Logos 4 crash with MacBook

Hi, I have experience a number of crashes with Logos 4 which was installed on my Macbook.
Sometimes, the software crashed8204.Archive 2.zip and shutdown almost immediately after I opened the application.
Most of the time, the crash happened while I was highlighting the bible verses and keying in notes, and occasionally when I was trying to export the notes.
The application is also very very slow when I was trying to key in the notes. I have upgrade my Mac memory from 4G to 8G but that doesn't solve the problem.
For your advice, please
Thanks,
Kang

Welcome [:D]
Looking at Indexer.log file noticed Library indexing is in progress (was 5.6 % complete). Logos 4 does work better when indexing is complete. Shutting down before indexing done causes indexing to start over next time.
Looking at Logos4.log file, noticed some sizing errors, suspect from sermon central, but did not have a stack trace for a crash. If (when) Logos 4 Mac crashes, please compress diagnostic log files before opening Logos 4 Mac, which overwrites Logos4.log file. If indexer is not running, then launching Logos 4 Mac also overwrites Indexer.log file.
Completely indexing a Logos library locally can take hours. While indexing is in progress, Logos 4 is reading and writing to disk storage a lot, which affects responsiveness in other parts of Logos 4 Mac (e.g. notes) and other applications. Wiki Getting Started with Logos has => Installation + Indexing While indexing is in progress, may want to have power adapter attached and energy saver set so computer does not sleep (OK for monitor to sleep); also may want to consider a cooling device since indexing is a bit intensive).
Caveat: Note entry in Logos 4 has opportunities for performance improvements on Mac and PC; several Logos users type in a different application (e.g. TextEdit), then copy and paste into Logos 4 Notes.

Hi thanks for your advice.
I tried to reindexing last night.
This morning, I tried to quit Logos 4 Mac after completing the index. However, it crashed again. Please see the attached file.
Usually i did not close the note application/file before I quit Logos 4. Should I close all opened files before I quit Logos 4?
Thanks,

This morning, I tried to quit Logos 4 Mac after completing the index. However, it crashed again. Please see the attached file.
Looking at Indexer.log file noticed Bible Indexing completed: took 1 hour 54 minutes to index 607 Bible resources. Library indexing completed in 4 hours 50 minutes for 1,607 resources. Overall, a bit less than 7 hours to completely index your Logos library. Incremental indexing with resource updates and new purchases takes much less time.
Looking in Logos4.log, noticing Sync client has lots of Name Resolution warnings within three minutes so resolving a network name (api.faithlife.com) to IP address is timing out (or encountering network/firewall issues). Also noticed Logos4.log does not have an application crash.
One option is email to Logos Tech Support => http://www.logos.com/about/contact with reference to this thread so could ask about api.faithlife.com network connectivity. Apologies: personally not know where issue(s) reside for sync client warnings.
Another option is using Logos 4 Mac offline. Wiki => Logos 4 Keyboard Shortcuts For Mac has a sign in tip so can choose to "Work Offline" for one launch of Logos 4 Mac application. When want to sync updates, could close Logos 4 Mac, launch Logos 4 Mac normally, then wait for sync to complete, followed by closing Logos 4 Mac, then launch for offline use.
While offline, several features are unavailable: Passage Guide: 4 .com sections, Reading Lists, sync, social networking, community notes, and resource/program updates.

Depends on your personal preference. Some Logos users like opening Logos 4 up with resources and files that were open when Logos 4 was closed. Other Logos users like opening to Home Page, then choosing what to open (including layouts).

Closing all open windows/panes prior to quit will result in more rapid opening to a blank layout. Of course, you will have the additional shutdown time of waiting for all panes to close. Upon restarting, you will then have the additional time of waiting for the desired layout to open.
I put the "Close All" command on the shortcut bar. Unless I am reasonably sure that I will use the same layout upon restart, I normally click close all prior to Cmd-Q.
YMMV [8-|]

Many thanks for the advice.
I called the Technical support yesterday and followed the instruction to reinstall Logos 4 for Mac.
Today, I had experienced another crash while using notes again.
Please see the log file for detail.
It seems that the problem has yet to be resolved.

I am not an expert in reading logs, but it seems that there is a problem with a community note. Were you using community notes? Have you tried starting from a blank layout? What resources are open when your computer crashes?

Looking at Logos4.log file noticing a number of network name resolution failures and connection time outs. The Logos4.log file ends with a puzzling crash while client sync was in progress.
Looking in the error logs, noted errors retrieving Faithlife groups. Logos4Error.log has a couple errors retrieving groups for resource LLS:1.0.50 (The New Revised Standard Version).
Wonder about network stability ? By way of comparison, my diagnostic logs lack name resolution failures (since my network connection can reliably and quickly resolve names to addresses)
If want to work online, wonder about unchecking community notes in resources ? One option is clicking three circles, then right click on community notes => "Do Not Show In Any Resources"
Another idea is working offline, which should avoid the numerous networking errors. Wonder if MacBook is moving in and out of places with usable network connectivity ?
Wiki => Logos 4 Keyboard Shortcuts For Mac has a sign in tip so can choose to "Work Offline" for one launch of Logos 4 Mac application. When want to sync updates and have good network connectivity, could close Logos 4 Mac, launch Logos 4 Mac normally, then wait for sync to complete, followed by closing Logos 4 Mac, then launch for offline use.
While offline, several features are unavailable: Passage Guide: 4 .com sections, Reading Lists, sync, social networking, community notes, and resource/program updates.

Ha I see. I am not too sure what is 'community note'. I usually create or open a previous note file to type in my bible study notes on the text.
The resources or files that I usually open everything I log in to Logos 4 are the 'Exegetical guide', 'Passage guide', 'Information', notes, "NASB', 'NRSV', 'ESV', 'NET', Text comparison'.
The crashes happened with all the above resources or files opened.
Thanks,
kang

By way of example, opened ESV, then clicked three circles to show drop down menu, which includes three community note files:
If Community Note file(s) are checked, then indicator(s) appear for note(s) shared with group.

Similar list to default layout from Home Page. Curious what item(s) are linked together ? Also wonder what sections are open in Exegetical and Passage Guides ? Wondering if crash when using Notes is happening while Logos 4 is generating stuff in link sets ?
Personally learned having less open in Logos 4 can be more productive and responsive, along with knowing how to quickly open more items as desired.
The Exegetical Guide has a Word by Word section that can generate a long report of information (especially for a chapter or a book), which cannot fit on screen so have to scroll to look at all the contents. Likewise Text Comparison can have much to display. An alternative for Text Comparison is using F7 in a Bible, optionally with words highlighted in several verses so F7 shows those verses (or type location in a Bible for several verses, then press F7 to see text comparison of your 5 highest prioritized Bibles that have those verses).

If still crashing, Logos Tech Support => http://www.logos.com/about/contact phone lines are open.
