Multiple columns
I've had some unusual trouble trying to get two columns working in the recent release. Trying for two columns in the ESV in portrait move. I've played with several combinations of settings and no go. The peculiar thing is I could swear I had it using two columns when I first loaded the update, but haven't been able to get it to work since. When I switch to landscape, I get two columns. In portrait, no joy.

I confirm the same behaviour.
I can get two columns in landscape (when set to auto, the default appears to be two columns). I am unable to select two columns either via auto or by hard setting it to two columns when in portrait.
I have tried messing a little with the font size, but this does not appear to make a difference.

Do you know that in Landscape mode "split screen" creates a vertical fold; but in portrait mode it creates a horizontal fold?
Just to clarify, we're talking about multiple columns, not multiple panels. The panels slider is working fine for me.

Mine works, but have to make the font very small to get it to work...an old complaint of mine.

Brian is right. My guess is that the developers have made a decision about how much space is needed for a column. When you consider the necessary white space, there may not be room for two columns with the point size you have chosen. In the screen shots below, I have set the point size at the largest possible which will allow 2 columns in that orientation. Portrait needs a much smaller point size as you would expect, since a good amount of space is needed on either side.
I don't know if this is a decision that has been reviewed with the recent update. I do know that the developers have changed the typefaces used in the mobile apps, and it is possible that a review needs to be done.

Would be nice for Bibles in portrait mode to have less white space so could have bigger font using columns. Probably introduces too much complexity?

I've been a big advocate of white space on the iPad, but I agree - I'd rather a slightly larger font with slightly less white space in portrait multi-column mode. The smaller font is not prohibitively small, but I would prefer a tick larger.

I am having the same problem (Mac). I float the panel (in this case, AMP), and set it for 2 columns. It comes up as one column, but after 2-3 screens, it will switch to two columns even though I have not adjusted the size of the box. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to when it switches back and forth between 1 and 2 columns. Must be a glitch in the new update?

Sorry - I didn't realize I was in the wrong thread. [:$]
I am attaching 8 screen shots. The first ones show that after I floated the panel, the passage shows up in one column three times. In the next 2 shots, it switches to 2 columns without my changing any settings. (It had been set for 2 columns all along.) I then backed up to the original passages, and they are now - magic! - in 2 columns now.

Diane - I would create a new thread, in either the Mac or Mac Beta forums (whichever one applies). Make sure to put BUG: in the subject line (perhaps BUG: Changing Columns in Floating Panel). I would also include screen shots, but 8 is too many. Perhaps just put the first and last screen shots.
I know that there can be glitches when you have multiple columns and come across a title that is wider than the columns, but this does not appear to be your problem.

I tried to reproduce what you described here (with ESV) but was unable to. As soon as I change a floated bible to 2 columns it goes there as intended. I'm going to email you about this behavior. Thank you.
