I don't really know for sure but perhaps your having trouble getting your English font back.  I don't have a Mac but on my windows computer there is an "EL" at the bottom of the screen and when you click on it, will give you the option to go back to EN (English).  Or perhaps this is a joke?

Now, as for getting back to where you were. KS4J's instructions are correct, but there is a simpler way to switch languages on the fly, provided the option is enabled (I believe it is by default when you have more than one language set up). There should be a flag next to the clock in your toolbar at the top of the display. Click on this, and you'll be able to choose your language. If English isn't available, you probably disabled it altogether (and replaced it with Greek), so you'll have to follow KS4J's instructions to re-enable it.

I believe the default is not to show the flag. At least it was for me. That's one of the reasons I suggested the keyboard. The other was that I suspected that that might have been how he ended up with Greek in the first place. After all, if he had deliberately switched to Greek, he would presumably know how to switch back the same way, so it seemed likely that the first switch was accidental. And the only way I can think of to accidentally switch to Greek is with the keyboard shortcut. Therefore I hoped my answer would provide him not only with a solution, but also with an explanation of what had happened.

Definitely not on my computer. Either the American UI is different, or things have changed in Lion (or your memory fails you).

I don't think it was meant to be clever. He was stuck with Greek, so what else could he do?

EDIT: It looks like Apple Support sees no flag and cmd-spacebar>switch keyboard as the normal default, and cmd-spacebar>Spotlight as some kind of alternative default:

In my 2nd year Greek class our professor told of visiting a church and a young man had transliterated English into a Greek font (as in the original post) and had the verse tattoo on his entire back. When my professor's jaw dropped, the young man said "Don't you read Greek?"
