Wonder if this is considered a supplemental or replacement. I know anchor and an occasional other series has a book covered twice, but Pillar seems to be a fairly young series to have new issues of books already done….

Probably a replacement. The Leon Morris volume was originally published in 1988 prior to the Pillar series existence. IVP cobbled together a few existing volumes to start the series.

Nothing shoddy about Morris. Wonder if Eerdmans had a lapse of contract on it.

The replacement of the 1988 volume could be because the editor believed it was necessary to have a strong interaction with the "New Perspective on Paul" (NPP). This is a guess on my part, but I did search Morris' commentary on Romans and didn't find any reference to NPP or Sanders. However, I didn't turn to any of the passages that come up in the NPP discussion to see how Morris handled them.

I'm sure that was a significant factor. Morris' volume was written before the NPP became a serious force in Pauline studies. Hopefully the New Interpreter's Bible prepub goes through soon, I expect Kruse's and Wright's commentaries will complement each other nicely.

Well it may be quite sometime if ever before NIB makes it into production. It seems stuck at "Almost There", http://www.logos.com/product/8803/new-interpreters-bible

Romans 13:1-14 is the sample (located in the Volume X example) for anyone wanting to take a closer look at Wrights treatment in the NIB.
