Notes Hangups

I have the newest Logos release on the Mac (4.5b sr3). I'm running OS X ver 10.7.4 on a dual core 3 GHz MBP w/ 4 GB of RAM (1 GB free as I experience my problem). It's a 3.5 yr old machine, so not the fastest thing out there, but it's been fine up until this release.

As I type in Notes, very frequently it stops, I get the spinning rainbow while nothing happens, then it catches up, filling in the text I was typing as I waited for the UI response.

When I look at the Activity Monitor, it appears as though Logos is pegging a core. And it happens at a pretty regular interval, it's almost like it's one second of use and one second of acting frozen.

The other stats don't look unusual. Disk Activity is minimal (though there is a little bit of writing happening while it hangs, but way below any sort of bottleneck threshold). Network Activity is nil.

CPU does not budge when I'm not using Notes and my system remains responsive. If I start typing anywhere else in the program, I do not see this hangup.

That used to happen to me, too, until I set up Logos4 differently. Logos defaults to connecting everything to everything else, and any change can start a pinball effect where all open resources keep trying to scroll every other resource, slowing everything to a standstill. Large files of Notes will also slow you down when you export them (all or part) to Microsoft Word.

    1. Set up a separate notes file for each book of the Bible.
If you only have a couple of notes files, you
can exceed 20,000 pages of Word.DOCX when you export or print, which gets
      awkward.
    2. Open the Bibles you want to use regularly.
    3. Set up a layout for each book of the Bible
For each BIble book, set up its commentaries and its notes file, and sync each commentary to your Bibles.
For all except your preferred Bible, open Visual Filters and turn off all filters that point to notes files
Then save the layout for that book of the Bible.

The response time of Logos4 will be much faster.

I have another solution that's much easier. Run Logos next to another bible app that has a functioning notes feature. 1 step and works a charm.

Another option. Take all your notes and do all your highlighting on the iPad, if you own one. Also works great if you own a BT keyboard. I use one from Logitech.
