treating encyclicals and catechism as commentaries

Just loaded the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) and encyclicals.  I can open a paragraph in either and link to the Scripture reference.  But I'd like to work the other way, as well.  If I search for Luke 4:1, I'd like to be able to see where in the CCC or any encyclicals that this Scripture verse is referenced.  Any ideas on how to accomplish this?

    Yes. Make a collection of them and add the collection to your Passage Guide. The wiki has instructions both for making collections and custommizing the Passage Guide.

    Hi Ted

    The easiest way to do that is to open a 'Cited By' panel. It's purpose is exactly as you describe ... as you move through your Bible, it instantly checks the desired resource(s) for any references to where you are in your Bible.

    The way you use it is to open it: Tools > Cited By (lower right corner). After it opens, then go to the top left corner of the Cited By panel (where normally there'd be  a picture of a book). Click on that. Then:

      - Select which link set you're using for your Bible(s). Alternatively it will follow whichever is active. 'Follow'.

      - Then go to the section 'Show Collections' and find the CCC resource that you want it to follow. The list will include your collections, and also any tagged resources. It won't show all resources. So therefore it's easiest just to give your CCC a tag in the Library, and then it will be listed.

    - The other option to check, is whether you want a concise or expanded view of a 'hit' in CCC when it finds a verse you're looking at. Personally I like the expanded, since I can quickly scan to see what it is.

    Notice that you can have several resources following your Bible study; they'll be listed in that same panel.

    EDIT: MJ's answer speaks to your search question. Mine speaks to the subject of your thread, where you want the CCC to act as a commentary and follow your Bible. So it depends on which approach you prefer.

    If you use either MJ's suggestion to put in passage guide or DMB and use the cited by tool you will still want to create a collection.

    I suggest taking a look at Andrew's new video at http://scripturestudysoftware.com/2012/05/25/468/. It deals precisely with this and has some pretty good ideas. (I would probably use mytags rather than collections, though, and series turn up in the list automatically, so the encyclicals don't necessarily need either.)
